  • I think you would burn more calories jogging than running. But you could find out by putting both into the exercise tracking thing here on MFP and see the difference in the number of calories burned.
  • I hear ya. I have 4 kids - ranging in age from 9 to almost 16, and I work 1 FT job and a part-time job. It's kind of crazy but I just try and work things in when I can. When you first start it takes a while to enter all of your food. But once you get your food entered for about a week it gets a lot easier because you don't…
  • I eat around 1400 - 1500 calories per day and on the days that I exercise I tend to eat a little bit more - around 1600 - 1700. I am still within my calorie limit. I found that when I first started the 1400 calories per day i was really hungry all the time (before that I was eating 2000 calories per day and I wasn't…
  • I have seen others posting about the 30 day shred. I'm really curious about it and am thinking about trying it. Can you answer some questions for me? What is it like - meaning what do you do in it? How long does it take to do? Where did you get it and how much does it cost? I'm looking for something that I can do at home,…
  • I can totally relate to your inconsistency! I am the same way. Recently I started working with a life coach whose niche is exercise and healthy lifestyle coaching. He introduced me to the concept of a personal 'saboteur' that works against us to achieve our goals. One exercise that he had me do was to think about what it…
  • I know that my cousin was in this same boat (she's a member on MFP also) for quite a long time when she started. She was exercising like crazy and had seriously reduced her calorie intake but wasn't losing weight. You could try taking your measurements. For some people, they see a difference in inches lost before they see…
  • oops - forgot to post my starting weight. 172 lbs.
  • Will try for 10 lbs in March. That's a lofty goal for me as I've never lost more than 2 lbs per week. But I will give it my best shot. I'm starting my walking program again next week with my friend/neighbor. That was really helpful to me in the past in staying motivated to do it and when I do it regularly I am able to lose…
  • Thanks so much for all of the delicious recipes! I'm very encouraged to know that I can have satisfying and healthy Mexican food. I can't wait to try these recipes. First one will be this Friday. Thanks again for all of your detailed replies. They are so helpful.
  • I was also in the habit of eating hardly anything during the day and then eating a huge dinner at night. My doctor sent me to a nutritionist and we worked on changing eating habits for one meal at a time. 2 things helped me. the first was making a commitment to myself to lose weight because I wanted to not because my…
  • I prefer the Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidant bar - they are moister than the Fiber One bars and feel more like a treat. Another member indicated that if chocolate and peanut butter are triggers for you then you should stay away from those foods. I am terrible about chocolate - once I eat it I just crave it all the time…
  • All good suggestions from the other replies. I have type 2 diabetes and my nutritionist has advised me to eat breakfast - snack - lunch - snack - dinner - snack. I'm not too good about the snacks, especially in the morning. I was brought up on the 3 meals a day and snacking ruins your appetite thing. So this is a very hard…
  • I'm in the same boat as you. I was doing great and had lost 9 lbs. Then we went on vacation and I gained about 5 of them back. I found it very difficult last week- the first week back on the wagon so to speak - to stick to my calories. I went over my allotment 3 out of the 4 days last week! But today is another day and…
  • I keep fiber bars in my desk - the kellogg fiber plus bars are really good and only have about 130 calories. they fill me up and hold me for a few hours. I also keep 100 calorie snack packs in my desk because they satisfy my mid-afternoon craving for sweets. Tea also helps me to not feel hungry and if you drink it black it…
  • quick and easy to make at home - last night I made stir fry vegetables (brocoli, grean beans, garlic, ginger) with boneless, skinless chicken. I had that with 1/4 cup of jasmine rice. it took about 20 minutes to make and it was delicious. It was also high in protein and fiber and low in fat. take out - i usually go for…
  • Thanks so much to all of you who responded. You gave me a lot of really good ideas that I hadn't thought of. And you're right about spreading out my meals - i tend to eat too much at one time and then I'm stuck for a long time not being able to eat anything else. Thanks again. I'm going to try out your suggestions.
  • I keep Fiber One bars in my desk - they're pretty filling and only have 140 calories. I also eat Thomas' 100 calorie english muffins with peanut butter. More calories in that because of the pb but will keep me filled up until lunch time.
  • congratulations to you! That is terrific. And really motivating for you to keep on going.
  • I'm also from Mass. Grew up on the South Shore, my first college roommate was from Revere and she turned me on to Kelly's fried clams. Nothing like that down here!
  • What I eat may be a little different than what you need to eat. I have Type 2 diabetes and so I have to be careful about carbs and have them in combination with fats or proteins. With all your exercising it sounds like you may need to eat more carbs than I do. But generally, this is what I eat. B'fast - 100 calorie English…
  • Cheat day? This weekend was more like a Cheat 3-days for me. for Friday and Saturday I did stay within my calorie goals, on Sat it was thanks to walking 3 miles very briskly. But Friday - Cheeseburger, FF, blue moon beer. Yummy! Saturday evening - chicken parmesan and chianti - also yum. Sunday I did pretty well until my…
  • It's really tough I know. I try to keep snacks on hand that will satisfy my cravings in a healthy way - like 100 calorie bags of microwave popcorn, or those 100 calorie Oreo snack crisps to satisfy that chocolate craving. Fresh fruit with whipped cream can also be really good and not have too many calories - particularly…
  • well they do count as carbs but the fiber is also a benefit. for a while there was something for type 2 diabetics (which I am) that said you could subtract the amount of fiber from the amount of carbs to end up with 'net carbs.' but my nutritionist said that isn't really being done anymore and that I should just track both…
  • I have the same problem - a household of 6. I bought a Weight Watchers cookbook that has recipes for simple dinners that don't take much time. My husband does most of the cooking since he works PT and I work FT, but he has been making dinners from the cookbook. It has recipes that the kids will eat and basically they are…
  • - That has happened to me before and often I find that at my next weigh in I have lost a little more than expected (e.g. 1 1/2 lbs instead of 1 lb) - A reply to a similar post suggested looking at sodium intake because that can cause fluid retention which will result in not losing weight or even weight going up a pound or…
  • I had two days like that this week and started beating myself up about it. But today, I resolved that I would do better and I met my calorie goal. Try not to be too hard on yourself - it can create a downward spiral and you might give up. DON'T!! I know you can do it. Just relax and get back into your routine tomorrow.…
