Thanks, butbygrace206. And yes, we're all on this amazing journey that leads us to a healthier life!

That's great news that you're taking the right steps to creating those new habits you spoke about. I've been an MFP member since last August and have dropped 88 lbs. thus far. I find that taking it one day at a time (just like Alcoholics Anonymous' motto) works great. I also find the support I receive from my MFP community…

Hi all. New here too. I'll be 54 next month. Have lost 88 lbs. thus far, have about 140 to go. I've been really enjoying reading your posts and look forward to making some new friends. "One day at a time" has been my motto since beginning this journey last August and, by the grace of God, it's worked for me. Hope everyone…

Sounds yummy! I use zucchini instead of pasta too. I use my potato peeler (which makes nice wide "noodles" out of the zucchini). I discard the center portion of the zucchini because it's mainly seeds. Once I've done this step, I pat the zucchini dry with paper towels. My favorite way to cook the zucchini is as follows: I…

The semolina dessert sounds much like what the Italians call Polenta (corn meal mush). You can make it like a porridge, or very stiff and then cut it into shapes. My Mom would serve the stiff type covered with tomato sauce and cheese (not my fav)., I preferred it as a sweet dessert, sprinkled with a little sugar or as a…

Can only speak from my experience, but if those crumpets fit into your total goal for the day's calories and you're not skimping on protein (a very important part of every day's cals), then log them and move on. Doesn't matter if you ate them in the a.m. or p.m., total calorie intake for the day is total calorie intake for…

Agreed! This is what I've done and it's worked wonders.

Me too! I used to say I put on the pounds just looking at carbs! The only carb that I can say I don't crave or go out and buy because I just need to have it is rice. It's not that I don't like rice (hey, it's a carb, so of course I like it!), it's just not one of those "I have to have it!" kind of things. Thankfully I…

There are soooooo many ways to make chicken. Sometimes I'll fillet the breast (so it's nice and thin), then sprinkle it with salt, pepper, cumin, chili pepper, and some lime zest. Saute it in a fry pan that's been sprayed w/cooking spray until browned on both sides. I serve it with a squirt of lime juice on top. Goes well…

Another favorite of mine is tapioca pudding. I've discovered that I can make a package using Unsweetened regular or vanilla almond milk (I use slightly less than the 2 cups called for on the box). And I can have a cup of this for a mere 170 calories. Feels decadent to me (but it's not high in cals) and it's delightful…

Baked eggplant. In fact, I use an entire eggplant sliced lengthwise and baked as a substitute for pasta. When hubby has his usual pasta dinner, I make a tray full of eggplant. I top it with my own homemade meat sauce using ground chicken or turkey breast. DELISH!

I had a Southbeach Good to Go Protein Bar (Cinnamon Raisin), a 100-calorie Tropical Fruit Greek yogurt, and a cup of chocolate coffee.

How did these turn out? I went to the Weetabix recipe site to get the recipe. Plan on making them soon. Thanks!

Just the other day my brother (who's never had a weight issue) made a comment about my desktop photo on my computer. Every week or so I change my pic to reflect the season, holiday, etc. It so happens that I found a great picture of someone's rendition of Red Velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and red candy hearts…

As my Dad always said, "Everything in moderation". I've now made this my mantra. Nothing is "taboo" in my healthier choices. I just log everything I eat, and don't deprive myself of a little ketchup or whatever here and there. As long as I stay within my calories for the day, it's all good.

Love yourself for who you are. Don't let the haters get to you. And you deserve better than the boys you want to go out with!

Ksnider414, I agree with you! I'm not looking to be too skinny. I want to be my healthiest and have curves. Unfortunately, I had a double mastectomy a little over a year ago, so I no longer have boobs, but if I did, this woman's shape would sure be awesome! I believe you have to be comfortable in your own skin and that…

I read your story and caught myself nodding many times during your tale of going shopping at a plus-size store. I've been a plus size since I was born (10 lbs., 4 oz.). I know all too well the struggles faced being so unhealthy. I am so happy for your success I just had to write and congratulate you! You look amazing and I…

Thanks, Betty Jo. Gonna' try to make some of these. <3

As a two-time breast cancer survivor (once in '05 and again last year), I'd refer you to this article from The American Cancer Society: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/news/expertvoices/post/2012/08/02/the-bottom-line-on-soy-and-breast-cancer-risk.aspx I have chosen to limit my soy intake. I used to consume plenty of soy (soy…

Welcome! You'll find a lot of support here. I've been on MFP since August and wish I had started sooooo long ago! Just keep logging in, making friends, and checking the discussions, etc. You've already taken the first step. Good for you! : )

My current fav is baby spinach with strawberries, walnuts, blue cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette. Yummy! P.S. You can add a piece of grilled chicken breast to this and it becomes a very satisfying complete meal.

I am changing the way I think about food and logging everyday on MFP plus the support from my MFP friends keeps me inspired and on track to being a healthier me. I too have done the "diet" thing before. I lost over 130 pounds only to gain the 130 plus more back. I don't want that anymore. I want to look healthier and most…

BettyJo, you're one amazing woman! This post touched my heart so. I'm thanking God to be able to consider you as my MFP friend. Your self-love is something that I am trying to attain. Like many others, I was made fun of and criticized because of the way I looked (and that included my family members!). Now I take it one…

This was a wonderful article! Thanks so much for writing it. I've been an emotional eater since I was just a little girl (that was many, many years ago!). I'm learning to deal with my emotions a bit more each day. These tools you've listed will certainly help in the fight to win back my healthy lifestyle. A*

Pumpkin spice coffee. M-M-M good!

This sounds awesome! I ran it through caloriecount.com and came up with 183 calories per serving (10 servings in a loaf). However, it did make me convert the applesauce to grams (55), so maybe that changed the calories. Either way, I'm gonna' try this recipe. Maybe I'll cut the calories a bit more by using Egg Beaters.…

Me three, LindseyLovestoLift! Growing up in an Italo-American household with a Mom who was an awesome cook and baker, my siblings and I learned to eat no matter what the occasion (celebratory, when we were in mourning) and as a means to hide our true emotions. Not a good combo! I crave sweets or carbs....they're my…

Nice response, Valereee. I'm so proud of you for getting out there! And for the awesome weight loss too. We just have to keep on going. I am very much aware that I was just one more pound or two away from being just like my Mom. But then I thought to myself, "It took a lot to get to this size and you know it's gonna' take…

Couscous is a pasta product just like macaroni or spaghetti, just really small and round. Quinoa is a whole grain. The quinoa is great to add to a vegan/vegetarian meal because it's high in protein. I use quinoa as a side dish or as a main dish when I want a meatless meal. Although quinoa can be more costly than couscous,…
