  • Enjoyed reading many posts on this message board. Have been a ghost for way too long (over a year). Between having total knee replacement and losing my sister-in-law and two dear friends, I've been waaayyyy off the wagon. Hoping to get back on and get back to my senior exercise classes when our Sr. Center reopens.
  • Grew up in an Italo-American household with eight siblings. My Mom knew how to stretch meals and we often ate meatless meals. Some favorites: Sauteed Broccoli Rabe with Cannellini beans. (Sautee rabe in olive oil, sliced or minced garlic, red pepper flakes (if you like a little heat), and just a splash or two of vegetable…
  • Hi sprakletexan777. I was on Tamoxifen for five years w/my first diagnosis of BC (2005), and when the cancer reoccurred (2013), I was on the drug for two years, then switched to Arimidex (generic name: Anastrozole) for the last several years. I was 52 when my cancer reoccurred and not yet in menopause, so my oncologist and…
  • Two-time breast cancer survior ('05 and again in '13).
  • I record "a taste of this, a taste of that" in ounces. A guesstimate is fine - as long as something gets logged. That being said, if it's minuscule, I might not bother.
  • For the last several days it's been Taylor Dane's "Love will lead you back". One of my favorites back in the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ1qLW2WBZk
  • Wonderful suggestions here. Let me add in my two cents worth: Mix the following together in a medium-size, microwave-safe bowl: 1/3 - 1/2 c. old-fashioned oats (you can use quick cooking, if you'd like, I just prefer the old-fashioned) a sprinkle of cinnamon fruit of your choice (I use frozen mixed berries, strawberries,…
  • Hi aerotaz427. I don't live in PA, but in Massachusetts. I'd still like to be friends if you'd like. I've been on MFP for three years this month and have lost 100+ lbs. Support and motivation is key to success, so if you're willing, add me to your friends. As for having someone to exercise with, I joined a local community…
  • The answer to this question is definitely that I stuff my feelings and allow myself to become numb by overeating. Please read my recent blog post from this week to gain a bit of access to what makes me tick (as I'm sure it does others). Back in the saddle again - just for today. Just for today has been my mantra since…
  • For a low-carb/calorie crust: Cauliflower crust pizza (See Hungry Girl's web site for recipe) is hands down the best. If you're looking for a bread: Joseph's Flax & Oat Bran Pitas. Yum!
  • I've lost over 100 lbs. (much more to go) and the loose skin is the thing that gets to me the most. Yes, the health benefits are wonderful, but I've got new issues from the excess skin: heat rash! Especially in my neck area. It's definitely tied to my sleeping with the blankets close to my face I am sure, but I've slept…
  • Old-fashioned oats, plain Kefir, unsweetened almond milk, almond butter, frozen unsweetened or fresh fruit, Tumaro Let's Skip the Sandwich Multigrain Wraps, lean chicken, fish, and Quorn Naked Chikn Patties. Yum-yum!
  • What a transformation! That's my Word of the Day since I heard it this morning at Mass, then in my daily readings, and now I'm using it because what you've accomplished is truly life-changing. Congrats. : ) NOTE: Just looked at your post one more time because it was so inspiring. Noticed the post is from 2013. How are you?…
  • Walked a couple of miles, but then it rained heavily. So...I'm in the house for the rest of the day. Did housework and around here, that's a workout in and of itself! Tomorrow: Silver Sneaker Aerobics class. Friday: Tai Chi.
  • Here are some of the dishes I cook quite often: sauteed cabbage, carrots & Italian chicken sausage; sauteed spiralized zucchini & Baby Bella mushrooms; mini chicken & veggie meatloaves, and roasted cauliflower & sweet onion kugel.
  • Don't know if I have a disorder (never been diagnosed), but I binge on junk (sweets in particular) when "things" a/k/a emotionally-charged situations or life, happen. For example, my husband has not been a part of the 2-1/2 yr. journey I've undertaken of trying to eat healthier and lose weight. I've lost well over 100 lbs.…
  • Great photos! Thank him for me for his service and thank you too! May God bless you both.
  • That's terrific that you're both losing. Just wanted to thank him for his service and you too! God bless.
  • Hi there. My go-to for breakfast is egg whites. I've recently discovered that making a bowl of oatmeal with savory ingredients helps me stay full and can help with adding protein to an everyday high carb (oatmeal) breakfast. Here's what I'm making right now: 1/2 c. old-fashioned oatmeal made with water, 1 whole large egg,…
  • Hi there - I feel your pain (literally). I have suffered with sciatica since I was pregnant with my now adult daughter. That's a long time! After losing over 100 lbs., I joined our local Sr. Center and signed up for a Long Yang Tai Chi class. This is the only thing that has ever helped me. I've gone to PT, chiropractor,…
  • Thanks all for the condolences and the encouragement too. It's not every day that I'm successful in keeping my emotional eating in check, but I am grateful to God that each day He reminds me of how much I am loved right where I'm standing, right in this moment. <3 God bless all of you in your journey to a healthier way of…
  • I'm an oatmeal person too! Your pancakes sound delish. Gonna' have to try them. Have a tip I got from Hungry Girl's web site. I now "grow" my oatmeal. I like hearty meals and if I add twice the liquid to my old-fashioned oats and cook it longer, the oats puff up and pretty much fill my cereal bowl. And all for the same…
  • Hmmm...good question! I use Kefir in my oatmeal. Kefir contains prebiotics and probiotics too. So, I wait until my oatmeal has cooled down, add a bit of Kefir to cool it down further, then add the rest of the Kefir. This way I'm ensured of getting the most out of my food. As for whey, here's a website I found:…
  • Perky Turkey Jerky (original). Love this stuff and it's a great way to get more protein into my diet once in awhile.
  • Maia Yogurts. A bit difficult to find, but a lot less sugars than most yogurts and deliciously smooth.
  • Awesome! Congratulations on the huge weight loss. You look wonderful!
  • Just discovered http://threadup.com// You can sell your gently used clothing there and purchase clothing at unbelievably low prices. Thinking of treating myself to a few new things soon (and in a smaller size to boot!).
  • Hi Anne - My name is Anne too! I'm 56 and have lost approx. 140 lbs. in about two years. I've been on MFP since August 2014. Feel free to message me if you're interested. You can and will reach your goals. MFP is a great place to start. Wishing you much love and success.
  • I've discovered I like savory oatmeal! This was a huge surprise for me. Here's one of my favs: 1/2 c. old-fashioned oats, water, 1/2 avocado (mashed or cut up), 3 egg whites + 1 whole egg (I leave the yolk soft and mix it into the oatmeal), salt and pepper. Yummy and healthy.
  • I have replaced Cool Whip with TruWhip. Better for you than Cool Whip and tastes great. For more info: http://www.truwhip.com/nutritionalInfo/index.php
