Here's some images of my Middle Sister climb from last weekend I hiked in and set up a high camp on Thursday evening around the 7000' level below Middle Sister. This shot was taken about 1000' below the summit of Middle Sister. Taken from the summit of Middle Sister. South Sister is the close prominent peak. I spotted this…

Well, the dictionary says: Hike - To go on an extended walk for pleasure or exercise. I would personally consider it a short easy hike. I also agree with Hikergirl, getting out and moving is all that counts!

Hi everyone! It's nice to see a group of hikers/backpackers using MFP. I'm an avid hiker/climber and I live in the PNW. I'm currently working on climbing the 100 highest peaks in Oregon. I have a blog site called The Zenith (webtwb.wordpress.com) with updates on my adventure. Like others in the group I'm looking for…

I do both. I love being pushed by other swimmers and I'm competitive so I swim a couple times a week with my US Masters Swimming Club. I also love swimming workouts of my own and working on my technique.
-
Typically 5 - 6 times a week with days that I swim twice (morning and evening). Swimming is my base exercise, I love the way I feel after a hard workout in the pool and it starts my day off right. I typically run every other day and either spin or ride outside when the weather permits.

If your local pool has a US Masters Swimming program it's a great way to meet other swimmers along with getting into a structured program (Most programs have a coach on deck as well). US Masters Swimming is not only for competition, but it's also for fitness as well.

Just a quick update on Nov. distance total. I ended up with 71k just 4k from my goal of 75k. My Dec. distance goal will be 75k (hopefully I'll stay committed through the holidays ;-)) Swim swim swim.....

Completed the breathing set this morning: 3x50 3 breaths on 20 sec 3x50 2 breaths on 20 sec I have a love/hate relationship between breathing sets, I totally hate doing them, but I've found that by doing them on a consistent basis has lowered my 50 and 100 meter times.

Distance or time in the pool works for me, I try every month to set a goal in order to have something to shoot for. I have a hard time staying motivated through the winter months so this year I've made a point to keep track of my meters/mileage. There's a Go The Distance (GTD) program with US Masters Swimming that provides…

Swam the 200 as part of a set in 3:10. Hitting the fly set tomorrow...sigh.
-
I like the group idea! I'll pick up the 200 tomorrow.
-
Electriq - Awesome about getting the pass! Em - Um...I think I'll try for the 1:27 next! :p

I completed the first challenge this morning swimming the 4x100's on 1:28! The last one was a little rough. ;-)
-
Hope everyone's doing well! I'm planning on swimming the 4x100's tomorrow on 1:28. (now that it's in writing I have to do it right?) ;-)

I modified the 6x50's of the challenge to 10x50's and held 50s. I also surpassed my 60,000m goal and hit 69,734m ({sigh}..I might head back to the pool this afternoon so I can hit 70,000).
-
Oh...I felt like I was gonna pass out! I'm going to hit the 6x50's tomorrow morning. Can I use my zoomers for the third one? ;-)
-
I'm still working on the challenges and trying to hit the 60k meters / month goal as well. I'm only at 44,000 so far so next week's gonna be rough. I tried to complete the 50's challenge, but the third set at 2 breaths/50 was a little rough. I completed the first one but from that point on I took 3 breaths. Gives me…

Awesome job on your swim Em! I completed challenge #1 today and here's the results: 2 X 75 @ 1:30, 2 X 75 @1:25, 2 X 75 @ 1:20, 2 X 75 @ 1:15 I'm planning on adding the second challenge to my swim tomorrow.

Hope everyone's doing well! I'm planning on doing this week's challenge tomorrow and will post the results. Last week's 1.5 mile Columbia Crossing went well, I finished with a time of 35:30 which was faster than my previous time in 2007 :). Oh, and for an update on my monthly goal, I'm a little behind at 25,000 meters so…

I completed the freestyle 4x100's yesterday on the 1:30 which wasn't faster than my last, but I felt much better doing so. ;-) I also hit the 60,000 meters mark for the month of August and I hope to match or exceed that total for the month of September! I won't have much time for other challenges this week, I'm getting…

Awesome job everyone! I finally found an open pool that's not too far since my Y is closed for yearly maintenance. (add to the excuses list ;-) ) I'm going to hit a couple of the challenges tomorrow plus I'm only 2300 m from my monthly goal of 60,000 m and I really want to hit the goal.

If anyone's looking for a swim planning app, I've been using Tri Faster Swim Planner for my Android. It's nice, just enter your pace interval and distances and it will set up a warm up/main set or sets/ warm down workout. You can send the workout to your email to print out and to take to the pool. Oh...nice challenge for…

Awesome job everyone!

emswanson - I'm heading up to Seattle for the Emerald City Open Water Swim event on Saturday the 20th and I'm entered in the 1 mile class. It's my first open water event this year so we'll see how it goes. I've been swimming in 80+ degree pool water and the race site is around 70...burr.
-
Finished the first challenge by swimming the 4x100 m @1:30! I've been concentrating on distance for upcoming open water swims so it was a nice change of pace to sprint a little. ;)
