^^This is probably the single most important piece of advice I have read on MFP. I am near your age, and, after years of yoyoing finally met my goal of a 50lb loss in about a year, the "trick" for me was to acknowledge that it really is a marathon, not a sprint. I am only able to be successful if I set reasonable goals,…

I lost 60lb at a 1lb a week goal on MFP and ate back my excercise calories, I would have been too hungry all the time and would not have succeeded otherwise. HOWEVER, I verified the calories MFP said I burned with other calculators on line. Some of the figures (particularly the elliptical numbers) are really inflated- that…

Even if all you can do is 30" a couple of times a week, try to do that. Slowly build back up to where you were, or to where you want to be now, both emotionally, and physically. Don't bully yourself!

Systematic Reviews and metanalysis, huzzah! You are the very first person in 2 years of using MFP that has provided anything approaching real evidence (not small pop, low quality studies) to make a point about weight loss and fitness! I bow down. What a breath of fresh air!

Thanks for the pants tip, I have been putting the larger sizes away as I get smaller (have gone from a 16 to an 8 in about 18 months), but I think getting them out of the house all together is a better idea. In terms of maintenance, I plan to keep logging forever, I think the secret for me has been to realize that my…

Good on you, you look great! Awesome to hear you are feeling great too. :)

OP here's a couple of other links I encourage you to check out. Try to stick to science based articles if you can. There is so much nutritional misinformation out there. One thing that can help with your searches is to add the word "evidence" when you google topics like this, for example: "Evidence for Safety of…

Other than the lack of advertising, and the ability to tweak my calorie goals by individual day, I didn't find the premium version worth it. However, if you are a person who closely monitors your nutrition down to the gram , you would probably find the premium version very helpful. I wish there was a middle ground pricing…

One particular chain restaruant grilled chicken salad comes to mind. . .it was about 2x the calories of the cheeseburger! :\

I wore a sleeveless top, and running shorts out in public this weekend! (it's been high 90-100 here, and I wanted to walk to the store). 1 year ago, I wouldn't have worn that INSIDE my house. These are all so great, and inspiring, I wish we had a like button so I could tell everyone individually!

They really will! I was quite distressed when I started measuring and weighing my food, a real portion size was about 1/2 (or 1/3) of what I had been eating! I was sure it wouldn't be enough. But after a little adjustment, it turns out it is enough. I too find myself craving more food sometimes, especially when I am sad or…

I'm down by 2 automobile tires and a chihuahua! I can hardly believe it, it seemed so slow coming off, but then a few months down the road, it has all added up to a lot. Let's hear some more! I never get tired of this. :)

Nikki, this happened to me! Someone pulled me aside at work to ask me if there was anything they "could do". Apparently, they had noticed my weight loss, and assumed that I was ill as well! It was a little off-putting to say the least- but I'm going to choose to see it as an (odd) compliment. :)

This. I would fail otherwise. I just get too hungry and crabby. I try to only eat back about 1/2 my burned calories, (to account for MFP calories burned overestimates, and my potential food logging underestimates). But it's what works, for ME (I'm 42 lbs down in ~40 weeks). I really think we are all a little different…

Thanks for sharing these, you look fantastic!

I keep coming back to your pictures, you look so great, you are inspiring me! Thank you for posting these, it helps when I get discouraged to see what others have accomplished.

I can't wear any of the work out clothes I bought when I started all this 9 months ago. Even the stretchy yoga style pants wont stay up!

I just saw this! How FANTASTIC!! I'm so happy for you, I'm sure your doctor was too. It's a remarkable accomplishment.

Welcome back Heart2Health-- it's wonderful to see you back here, it sounds like life really handed you some tough challenges, and yet you have persevered. My hat is off, and my heart goes out to you. I hope the support you find here will help, as you recover from such difficult times.

I wouldn't mind losing the ads, but it has worked very well for me as-is. I don't really need most of those added features, I am likely to stick with the free, unless it was under $10-12/ year.

Me too! Great work!

I use the "old recipe" tool on the right side of the screen, I have to search for every ingredient individually (like when I add food to my diary). It takes some time, but I find the recipe tool really helpful. When I enter things as a meal, it's much harder to adjust when I eat a portion of a whole serving (i.e. 1/2…

2 automobile tires! Which is hard to wrap my head around. I still feel like I am the same size as before even though the mirror, my measurements, and my clothes sizes say differently. It's like my brain/self-concept are having a hard time catching up to the weight loss.

I agree, I had this experience when I increased the intensity of my workouts. It was only for a couple of weeks, but I too felt anxious about it.
-
sorry I screwed up my post above, I was trying to say I agreed with Beemerphile1's comment about excercise.
-
I want to try them too! I need to do more strength training of my upper body first though. And probably get a pillow for to cushion the blow when I fall on my head. ;)

Maybe you can get in a good walk during lunch? The cookie/cupcake/donut/party left-overs area is literally in arm's reach of my cubicle. It's deadly...

I have had good luck with bringing 1/2 of a Clif bar. I also second the instant oatmeal. I prefer the reduced sugar version. I also have some single serving apple sauce cups in my desk drawer (unsweeted).
