5 years ago I could not balance long enough on one leg to take my sock off. Motivated by mobility, right then I decided to become more active. Over the next couple of years I improved my stamina and overall core strength to where I could walk/run a 5K... then I plateaued :( And my motivation changed .. I like getting…

Man it took me forever to find this post again .. I only just found out how to bookmark it ! UGH!! When I posted back in February I was 171 and at that time had a goal of another 6 lbs (which was one step in the whole process). I am now 148 and down a total of 71 lbs. I would like to get down to low 140's so I have some…

Are you familiar with Intermittent fasting? There are a few variations but the 5:2 has worked for me and doesn't leave your body feeling deprived.

Hi ... welcome to MFP ... You CAN do this .. I did :) I know people say if I did, you can but I MEAN it !! My journey started about 5 years ago. I have a form of muscular dystrophy that affects my balance and leg strength as well as limits my upper body, making it difficult to raise my arms overhead so my motivation was…

I agree that her calves aren't large and that she doesn't need to lose any weight. Like you I also thought weight loss wouldn't affect the calves but was proven wrong ... I've lost weight and my calves have decreased from 18" to 14.75" and no more cankles! :)
-
No, No, No, No, No! Your calves and your legs look great and in proportion... many would switch body parts with you in a heartbeat!! As others have stated, large calves are genetic and, unfortunately so are large ankles ... both of which I was blessed with :( Thankfully after losing some weight and getting healthier the…

I am 5'5", 56 years old and have lost (so far) 60 lbs. My starting weight in 2012 was 219 .. I am now 158. Size wise I was into 15/16 and now wear 8/10 (with an occasional size 6  That might seem like a long time for 60 lbs but weight loss wasn't my motivator when I started being more active, mobility was! I was…

Diet !!! UGH !!! I HATE that word!! I'm also kind of getting to dislike "lifestyle change" too :( BUT ... Just by making the decision you are a step ahead of those that have not and are still on the sofa... good for you !!! I know it is hard, but try not to focus on the numbers... it is a conscious decision to do something…

I agree! Oatmeal isn't bad ...... without all the stuff some people put on it, it is one of the best breakfasts you could have! I add hemp hearts or casein protein if I'm eating it before a workout... it's great with coco nibs too. If he were my chiropractor, I would likely print out some info to give to him so he can…

Hi !! You've taken the first step and good on you for that! I have a couple pieces of advice for you. First - understand that once you start the journey you will get discouraged and will have setbacks and maybe be a shark eating everything in sight - those are the days to remember to not beat yourself up. That's when you…
-
chew a banana slowly and sip water ... . be aware of what you eat and the calories the give you but don't beat yourself up or stress yourself out about it ... that will work against you

Most guys (according to my husband) would say yes but they'd be lying because they want to bang (almost) every girl they meet. Most girls would say yes because they truly believe it because girls don't want to bang every guy they meet.

It may be that your body is getting used to your routine .. can you change things up a bit? Your sodium intake could be reduced .. prepackaged foods are usually a big contributer. A person is more likely to retain water with increased sodium. I like the treadmill, spin and eliptical too much but I found that making a…

Welcome!! I agree with Spartan_Gingi .. don't think of it as a diet ... it is a strategy for a healthier lifestyle. My advice would be to take baby steps ... both in terms of not changing everything all at once but also in terms of getting active. Your body will fight you in both respects but you WILL win out!!! This site…

I saw Dr Mosley on the Dr Oz show and although I had been steadily losing weight by regular structured workouts, I had reached a plateau because of an emotionally stressful 6 months as I was terminated without cause from a 15 year job I loved :( But I digress ... I started the 5:2 strategy in June of 2016 and have been…

I actually weigh myself morning and night. If I am up more than a couple pounds at night I can use that to analyze my food intake vs energy expenditure for that day as well as strategize for the next. Until I learned to use the scale to my advantage as a tool I was obsessed for all the wrong reasons. I have never heard of…

Thank you so much for sharing the photos ... your results are awesome and what I am hoping for :) I have always had big arms but now that I've lost weight I find I still need larger tops to accommodate them and the result is that the rest of the garment is too big around the waist and hips. So I have decided to have an arm…

I warned myself down. I had a candy dish in my office and used to fill it with stuff I loved. I gradually replaced those with some I could take or leave and when I got to where the last ones I loved were to be replaced I replaced them with small size dark chocolate because there are health benefits to it. The next step was…

I just started the 5:2 about three weeks ago. I had hit a plateau at 34 lbs and wanted to change things up. So far I don't find it too difficult on the fast days. I'm down 3 lbs so it appears to be working :)
-
I believe the 5:2 strategy is 2 days a week fasting at the recommended calories and eating as you normally do on the other 5 days. Once you reach your desired weight you maintain by fasting only 1 day. I've been doing the 5:2 for about 3 weeks and am down 3 lbs. I am fairly active and do structured workout a minimum of 3…

Hi Devoniaford .. I lost 34 lbs by working out but after hitting a plateau about 5 months ago. I wanted to change things up and after seeing the 5:2 on Dr Oz decided to try it. I've been on it for little over 2 weeks and have lost another 4 lbs. My fast days are Monday and Thursday. On a fast day I will have a grapefruit…

I am 2 weeks in to the 5:2 strategy (hate the word diet!) and am down 4 lbs. I decided on the 5:2 after seeing Dr Mosley on the Dr Oz show at a time when I needed to make a change because I had plateaued. My fast days are usually Monday and Thursday but shift Thursday to Wednesday depending on what I'm doing. I decided…

I'm in week 2 of the 5:2 .. my fast days are usually Monday and Thursday with an occasional shift to Monday and Wednesday. How is your journey going? I'm here for support and accountability if needed !

Although I like to know how many consecutive days I log my food or activity I am not always able to input the information on the day .. weekends are especially difficult if I'm on the go then play catch up on Monday.. I find the counter and think it would be better to not use it ... I have looked at the settings but can't…

congrats! and don't get discouraged when people do notice and say they see your face looks thinner :/

I've made up some recipes for (what I call) Protein Poppers ... little balls of energy to take wherever .... here is one: 4 scoops chocolate protein powder 2 c almond flour 1 c peanut butter 1/2 c coco nibs or yogurt chips form into little balls, roll in unsalted sunflower seeds or coconut. Can be frozen for to go snacks.…

I'm not sure if I can explain how I did it ... I enjoy doing it and if one enjoys doing something, it happens naturally and instinctively without thought :D What is the best opportunity that came your way and did you take advantage of it?

when I started working out almost a year and a half ago I was red faced and out of breath after 5 minutes of walking and like I was going to pass out after 1 minute on the elliptical .. now I can do 45 minutes of interval walk/jog and 20 minutes at a brisk pace on the elliptical. I have a form of muscular dystrophy called…
