How much carbs are you eating atm? net or total. Are you sedentary or physically active ? In the transition to keto-adaptation in fall 2014, I had crushing headaches for a couple of weeks. Whenever I flirt with my individual carb threshold...headaches out of the blue is a sign for me that I'm overstepping my limit. If you…

I had IBS for many years. It went away changing macros to LCHF. Unlike others in this thread, I NEED vegs and fiber to work properly. Too much protein plug me up. I suspect that the different effects from same stuff might be due to composition of individual microbiome. Here is a lecture by one of the researchers in…

Your persistence is inspiring. Bloody good job! whoever says this WOE is not sustainable dunno what they're talking about.

Avocado was like "meh". Now I love it. For those who still hate it: I suggest try reframe it to "lush, fruity, green cream". Maybe it'll change your perception of the texture? Not a former hate, but rather indifference. Fresh flat, parsley! I luuuuv it! Out of the blue when going lowcarb, I got obsessed with parsley. Maybe…

OP, you have conflicting goals...hence the struggle. Nevermind the added complexity of a vegan keto. Diet competition, wanting PRs every week, severe deficit = asking for trouble. You started the thread asking about muscle loss. I assume you're informed enough to know that ANY dieting is catabolic to some degree. I wish…

I do that too. Love the pepper-y taste of high quality olive oil. I also often put olive oil and ACV into the avocado hole. Salt and pepper to taste. Vinegar dressing takes 30 secs to make and is sooo versatile. To OP, choose fattier cuts of meats. Chicken thighs are not only tastier, but also don't dry out as fast as…

That's great news on reducing medication! Just curious: Where were your numbers on fasting and post prandial BG before (with or without medication) ? Are you doing IF too?

Fat is not passive. It's inflammatory. http://themedicalbiochemistrypage.org/adipose-tissue.php ...and what helps clear out protein debris and junk?...drumroll...autophagy!

<3 Pork rinds.

Are you getting enough protein? You also need full amino acids for the body to work well.

My hair has gotten much LESS greasy going lowcarb. I wash it 1-2/week now, mostly cause I like the smell. Before I often had to wash it every day.
-
OP, if you're new to training, then PRs come easy at the start. So don't be disheartened if they don't come weekly anymore. Your big deficit may also shortchange you of fitness progress. It's a balance between two different goals. Please up your sodium too if you feel "weak". Good luck :)

Yes as add-on to soups and stews or olive oil. At least I do, it tastes better :) They even talk about fat as the 6th taste now: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26631596 http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2015/Q3/research-confirms-fat-is-sixth-taste-names-it-oleogustus.html In French cuisine they often finish a…

I think Taubes is often doing swiping generalizations that is giving the anti lowcarb people more ammunition, not less. He's undoubtedly done a lot of good. But the misconception that you can just pile on the butter for EVERYONE and lose weight, just isn't true for my body. I can eat a lot over for maintaining, but losing…

I strain it in a fine mesh sieve and keep it in a jar in the fridge. I use it for frying stuff like new batches of bacon, eggs or vegs. Saves money, cause less need for CO :)

In the podcast on ketoevangelist with PhD Jacob Wilson, Wilson shares his thoughts and objections to how strong the recent Hall study is. It begins at roughly minute 38:30 and lasts 11-12 minutes. Cliffpoints:* An isocaloric study will give a slight advantage to the diet macros that goes first. Cause as one lose weight,…

Nope :) But I've taken close notice since fall 2014 of what I ate and if any effects. Used a spreadsheet first, to get overview. Interestingly, someone in my friendslist commented on a possible link between grains and depression in February, when I posted about it. I can have grains as a single occasion at a party once in…

For ME it's not a coincidence. I've done extensive experimenting. I eat more carbs than most here, so it's not due to metabolic inflexibility. I get crabby with too much GRAINS, sometimes depressed. I also get weird aches and pains with grains, often in joints. I don't get the same with rice or potatoes. Weird. YMMV.

@Sunny_Bunny_ It could also mean that the stix don't give universal readings...so we don't really know what we really are measuring on an individual basis. I'm not dismissing the stix. But I think there's been reported too many things that might confound the readings, to make them a reliable source for accuracy. Edit: Many…

Sorry to burst your bubble. From my understanding the ketostix are only useful the first couple of weeks. So be aware what they can do and can't do. After the body get more efficient using ketones, people have experienced no purple on stix, but having NK showing BHB measured by blood at the same time. Ketostix don't…

How cool you maybe got a convert! From what I've seen posted on boards and from own experience is to embrace both salt and more fat. It can be hard to reprogram that dogma. I understand you don't wanna overwhelm him. If he has issues I like the electrolytes link in our sticky pad and the FAQ from r/keto for a condensed…

I agree with Dan. I think it's easier for us to stay with lies and suffering that we already know, rather than to venture to new stuff that may or may not be true. My mum will rather take medication with horrible side effects than change her lifestyle. It's easier to pop pills thinking they help her. It's like talking to…

If the PT is so ecstatic about your progress...why does he insist that you change your protocol ? >:) Sounds like you're doing wonderful :)

Ty for explaining to me. I really like it. I have been taking protein like crazy this year and have gained a lil bit of muscle. I can feel and see they're bigger. So maybe I hit the sweet spot of nutrient partitioning from jan-oct 2015, despite doing IF + exercise. I was weight stable but kept going down sizes. It was…

ty for your answer! Re dxa. I may be misinformed, but I think DXA can't distinguish between the blood inside muscle fiber (intra muscular) and the muscle fiber itself. Which could imply that low carb diets and IF will show less FFM due to less water retention? What I'm curious about is how can one determine if there has…

I had itchy, red bumps during keto adaptation. It went over and never came back. Lasted bout a week or two.

To OP, yes the source of carbs matters because of nutrient density (and hormonal response). I can eat unlimited of vegs. Cause they make me full. I can NOT eat unlimited of sweet desserts or white starch carbs without detrimental consequences. Fruits I have to moderate and portion control. There are no absolute rules. Do…

Op, As long as you intake adequate protein for your activity level some time during the day, you should be fine, IMO. The body is smart. It doesn't burn off skeletal muscle that easily. The body has a protein turnover of about 300-400 gram/day. But a lot of that are amino acids that the body recycles. So the actual RDI…

#contextmatters. If fat loss is primary goal, no need carbs. If higher output performance, then a small amount of dextrose or similar fast acting carbs can be useful, IME. Given if you're already keto adapted. Gotta earn the carbs. Only you know at which intensities carbs might help. YMMV. Oh, and NO fructose. It goes to…

In order to create the energycurrency cells use, the body has to breakdown macros into ATP. When breaking down starches, the body has to use more water molecules than when using fatty acids as energy. Meaning, having a constant intake of a higher number of carbohydrates "binds" more water. I'm not quite sure the exact…
