I guess it's just the calorie restriction? MFP gives me 1670 plus workouts that are in the 450-600 range give me well over 2,000 to use. I'm certainly more mindful of what and how much i'm eating but nothing drastic. I'm thinking of getting super strict for the week starting the 22nd just to see what happens.

he's either too short or doesn't have arms or something to reach the elevator button. OR he's super forgetful of where he lives OR he's totally OCD OR his name is Roger aka "that creepy dude" and lives in my building

i did planet fitness for awhile but eventually wanted more. The ones i went to had outdated ellipticals (no incline), too few lockers, no/too few mats or too small an area to stretch/do floor work. i do miss the cybex arc trainers, which are awesome, and the hours were good. Great basic gym at a great price.

what she said...plus try brushing your teeth (and tongue), seriously, it puts a sweet flavor in you mouth and the minty freshness discourages your desire to eat something.

If you are looking for a pasta alternative, i can imagine there is something better out there than spaghetti squash. Don't get me wrong, i love spaghetti squash. But i love it prepared as a vegetable (more squash than spaghetti). It is wonderfully sweet and tender when roasted. Cut it in half lengthwise, on a baking sheet,…

I hear ya. Still, I say do it this year, KILL it next year. These things are less races and more like personal challenges anyway. I mean, i'm thinking about tough mudder in october. It's 12 miles dude. You know how many miles i run now? Three. And that doesn't even address the obstacles. So come october am i gonna have my…

I think that all sounds pretty normal if you are a new runner. At least that's how i was. Every time i went out i had some pain somewhere. Now I look at my run log from then and just laugh. I would detail every pain, rate it on a 1-5 scale, etc. After a few months, there are no more entries like that. Your body just needs…

Nice! I've heard about this, didn't even know it was coming to my town in August! I think i'm gonna sign up. I was thinking about trying to complete tough mudder (google it, you'll like it) in Oct. in Virginia. I might do this as a"check yourself before you wreck yourself" challenge. Also why 2012? This summer dude, you…

sunny side up, atop 2 nice slices of asiago, atop a mound of herb risotto. probably not the best lo-cal choice, but it is how i like them:)

Thank you very much for the encouragement. 2 days ago i ran 3 miles in 35:20 so my 5k is probably 36something. I think if a ran an event the atmosphere/adrenaline would push me closer to the 30 minute mark, but i guess my goal is more like consistent 10 minute miles in my regular workouts. I was tracking on the Nike+…

WARNING: Devilspeak to follow.... I have to say, there are certain foods that a can't/won't modify. Pizza is one of those foods. Turkey pepperoni, pita pizza's, cauliflower crusts (?!) Heresy! Go out and get and get your favorite slice. Love your slice, savor your slice, and be satisfied by your slice. Work hard for it at…

I agree with focusing on cardio. That said, i think it's worth it to consider a single training session. Some gyms offer an intro for free. If yours does, go ahead and do it. Even if you don't plan on working with a trainer long term, it provides a bit of a roadmap, intstead of walking into the gym and feeling overwhelmed.…

I guess i'm an aspiring runner. I'm almost running 3 miles with no walking, consistently. And that's really slow, like 12 minute miles (is that even considered running!?) My total distance is 4 miles (half walking). My goal is to be able to run 5 miles straight without walking. After that i'll work on getting faster. I'd…

called it at 150 this morning, then spaced it the rest of the day. whoops. I'll try again though if you throw down another daily challenge!

nutmeg0686: "I pay about $100 a month at my gym but it's because my husband and I got a "married" discount for getting two members to sign up at once or something. For one person to sign up for 12 months it is supposed to be around $125 I think. Definitely worth it if you compare it to individual training sessions (which…

Sorry if this is OT but i heard about crossfit about a year ago and was really interested. I found a local crossfit gym and the monthly was a bit crazy for me, $150. Is that inline with other crossfit gyms? I get the whole spartan gym thing but in my mind that doesn't jive with boutique gym pricing. What am i not seeing?

I've been doing nasal irrigation for years, though never used the Neti pot or any solutions that they sell for it. I use a 10 cc syringe and normal saline. The normal saline does not burn, and the syringe, i imagine, is easier than trying to pour something into your nose. Whatever methods you use, it works great.

Wow. Thanks for the many great responses. I'm new to MFP and it's really nice to see how much support there is on the message boards. Hope you all enjoys Mother's Day!

I have the same problem when trying a new exercise at the gym. In addition to all the great advise above, i'd say run with intention. Which is to say, when you are thinking about how others are perceiving you, you should be thinking about your breathing, your form, your cadence...your running. Be present and run with…

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I'm so ready to do this.
