Forgive me, I did confuse the terms and values. However, if she is at her ideal weight (which according to any standard she is well into that range), and has a high body fat %, then she had to have lost the weight by losing an extreme amount of LBM...hence the doc saying "stop losing weight." Losing weight has caused her…

If you are freaked out about gaining a pound or two now...what will you feel when you are at a lower bmi? I would bet you would feel the same, not be where you want to be with your gut, and still want to lose. Your doc told you to stop losing weight because you are at the bottom end of your ideal range, and you will be in…

Why, oh why, is the first advice "give up cheese"?

Come out to Phoenix...see how much sodium you need

"[Debunked]...you use that word alot. I don't think it means what you think it means."

Yes, but you have to know your limits. If high impact exercises are extremely difficult, one coukd get hurt Ah. Good catch. I had it mixed up. A faster metabolism doesn't explain weight gain. Just as not being able to gain weight while smoking doesn't explain a fast metabolism. I could eat entire pizzas while smoking, and…

Every couple days, I see something like this. At first, it was informational. Now....It just comedic relief!

I always wonder how they calculate BF% from the bottom of your feet.

If you are trying to quit, however, I think you should forego calorie restriction. I quit cold turkey, just gave it up one day. I tried quitting about 4 times before, and 3 of those times, I was dieting. The other time, I wasn't, but I was not working out. When I finally quit, I allowed myself to gorge on anything I…

Unless you are on your deathbed, exercise. Your body wants it, to any degree.

Agreed. Any work that microanalyzes dietary processes is work worth doing. If one reads the entire article, yes, the information is presented in a fair way. I read through it again, and did notice that: 1. Mathematical models show results even out over time 2. People are all different in how their bodies use calories 3.…

Yes, "prove" is the wrong word when talking about science. Ask any college scientist. Nothing in science is ever "proven." There is simply evidence for or against a hypothesis or theory. Nothing can ever be proven, it can only be disproven through trials and meta-analysis. Copernicus disproved a geocentric model of the…

Actually, we know it contains 2.25 more calories per gram. We also know that it will take the body 2.25 times more energy to process the fat than it will the carbs, mass being equal. All weight loss trials are just a battle of energy vs hunger. For me, if I have fat macros over 70% for breakfast, I can sustain 8-12 hours…

In analyzing higher fat studies, it is important to note the longevity of the study. They say that high fat diet was only studied for 5 days. In that period, the body is still looking to consume carbs that trigger the insulin response. It seems almost every study out there wont study high fat diets over a period of, say, a…

Gymtimidation is 100% psychosomatic, and usually created by the one that feels inferior. When people lift, they are seriously just focusing on themselves, and their progress. If you are offended by their progress, then just get past it because I am sure they couldn't care less that you are a beginner. I am a guy, and I can…

Show some cleavage so they stare and drop a dumbbell on their toe. Just face it: men build muscle, and most women just want to look slender. At my gym, a lot of women lift, though, so it wouldn't be a problem. Honestly, most of the people on weights can actually help you. Ease the tension by asking for help or a…

I learned today that partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fats...And that those ph oils are in pudding cups! I was about to indulge, but even my sweet tooth said no! However, how many kids are eating those?

Before: Water. That is all. I always work out fasted, but I dont eat a lot of carbs, so I have that ability. I usually can't do it otherwise. I usually burn 700-1500 calories fasted, over about 45-75 min. After, it depends. Avocado, dairy blend, can of spinach (replenishes both sodium and potassium), and cheese.

So they are fun runs?

I am doing Seattle Super on Oct 17. It won't get out of the 50s and there stands a 50% chance of rain, according to the last 10 years of almanac history. Only problem with that is...I live in the desert. It will be at least 80°F every day. I may have to do some training in the mountains to condition. After that, I will be…

Lavoisier agrees with CICO.

Forget what nutritionists say about sodium. Desert dwellers need sodium. Well above 2300 mg. It is #1 for muscle movement.

I live in the desert, where during this time, 110° heat is coupled with +50% humidity. Working out outdoors during the day can be dangerous if one doesn't know what they are doing. I cycle every day in it, but besides that, I just workout at the gym. UV rays are dangerous where I live (11+ index every day), and couple that…

How is your water intake?

On a natural level, it would be with the sun, or even somewhere after daybreak. But artificially, it varies person to person. I sleep in a van, and I am typically awake before the sun (but not up). What I have found is that if I get up extra early, I will get tired earlier than if I got up later. Melatonin production is…

Coke gives me the runs. What's your point?

OP? Ya there?

And when they say "fat cancels out sugar," they are talking about macro percentages. In full-fat dairy ice cream, more than 50% of the calories come from fat. So, by eating some ice cream, those people are staying within their macro percentages. If the carbs are mixed with a greater amount of fat per gram, it will take the…

Do the research on how a high fat diet can help diabetes. When used properly, a diabetic can get insulin levels where they need to be through a high fat, lower carb diet. Some have even managed to cure themselves of the disease, and I am sure you will not be short of those people here on MFP. Just check out the LCHF…

One can of spinach: 100 calories, 1700 mg Potassium. One avocado: 250 calories, 900 mg Potassium. One potato: 110 calories, 400 mg Potassium. Bang. Done.
