12/1 - 4.2 12/2 - 2.5 12/4 - 3.3 12/7 - 4.2 12/9 - 7.4 December total: 21.6/ ??? Another cold one, but I did a better job dressing for it. Costco Adidas hoodie over my normal shorts and shirt, and gloves. The hoodie was great; I put it up when I was cold and down when I was hot. Lazy Saturday with everyone at home asleep…

12/1 - 4.2 12/2 - 2.5 12/4 - 3.3 12/7 - 4.2 December total: 14.2/ ??? I got to try out my underlayers today! On my way out, I was thinking to myself, "I'm pretty warm; next time it's 37 degrees, I probably could skip the undershirt and leave the stocking cap I'm carrying in the car along with the gloves I forgot." Then I…

Being fast is totally overrated.

12/1 - 4.2 12/2 - 2.5 12/4 - 3.3 December total: 10.0/ ??? My goal for today was to run slow enough that my heartrate stayed in the Fitbit "cardio" zone, since Friday and Saturday were both in the "peak" (>85% of what it assumes is my max heart rate). I was successful, but that dropped my speed down to 14m22s miles. Alas!…

I've had my Charge 2 for three days, so the novelty hasn't worn off yet. But so far, I like it a lot more than I'd anticipated. - I moved a lot more both yesterday and today than I would have without it. I didn't realize how much of a layabout I am on weekends. - I like the heartrate data, because I like data in general.…

You need to play a long game, there, either in years (keep running when he's lost interest / is too busy) or in distance (run farther). Kids are really fast. I was walking with my 14yo today, and she decided to outwalk me. I had to jog to keep up with her; apparently the three inches she has on me is all in the leg. I had…

12/1 - 4.2 12/2 - 2.5 December total: 6.7 / ??? This Fitbit is making me realize just how lazy my lazy winter weekends are.

I am the one who buys for everyone, myself included. Since Thanksgiving, I have purchased myself a new car (2017 Chevy Cruze), a SAD light (not sure it does anything, but I find it enormously enjoyable to have on in the dark gloomy morning), and a Fitbit Charge 2 (impulse buy due to the good sale last weekend; I wasn't…

12/1 - 4.2 December total: 4.2 / ??? Back on the horse. It doesn't matter how many times you fall off; it only matters that you get back on. My November total was 15.5 miles, all but two of which were in the last week.

My run on the 10th was too long; I should not have ignored the stiff feeling towards the outside of my arch. It bothered me the first day or two of vacation, despite a week of rest in between. (We walked ~10 miles…

Perfect conditions for poor life choices! I really should have called it a day at 5. Or even my usual 4.2. But no, and now I am a…

I finished C25K in July, so am not that much ahead of you. I am also slow; my easy pace is about 13 or 13:30 per mile. My "fast" pace and my maximum distance have increased enormously, though.

10/1: 3.3 10/2: 4.2 10/5: 3.2 10/7: 4.2 10/8: 4.2 Total: 19.1 / ??? My teenager wanted to bike today, so I suggested she go 4 miles and I go 2 on foot. She wanted to bike 8, so I said I'd run two miles out, then walk back. Except that she called me right after the turnaround; she had crashed her bike and misaligned the…

I should have gone out myself at dawn then walked while my daughter biked, but was persuaded to wait for her instead. Ten minutes in, she…

220-age is pretty useless in predicting a specific person's actual maximum heart rate. Unless your doctor has advised you to limit exertion, just ignore the heart rate stuff. You should be running slowly enough that you could carry on a conversation. It's okay if that's slower than your normal walking speed.

Doughnuts! A topic close to my heart. Or at least close to my belly. I am actually partial to QuikTrip doughnuts, specifically the Bavarian (filled with vanilla pastry cream and frosted with chocolate) and apple fritters. My daughter likes Krispy Kreme cinnamon sugar yeast doughnuts. Dunkin isn't local to us.

Apparently the key to adding a day is to slow…

So I went down to the next put-in, which gave me the choice of two…

9/2: 2.6 9/3: 2.2 9/5: 4.0 9/9: 4.3 9/11: 3.5 Total 16.6 / 50.0 Too fast, couldn't slow down, oops. :) There were a bunch of walkers on the path tonight, and I didn't want to snail past them, and then I just settled into that speed. If it had been 10 degrees cooler, or a little breezier, or if my throat hadn't dried out so…

@kgirlhart Yeah, last weekend, instead of doing ~4.5 miles on Saturday, I ran 2.6 Saturday and 2.3 Sunday. So no significant increase in mileage. My guess is that this was just a rough week to have more physical stress - I haven't gotten enough sleep or non-running exercise, been eating poorly, and my emotional stress…

9/2: 2.6 9/3: 2.2 9/5: 4.0 9/9: 4.3 Total 13.1 / 50.0 Should have run Thursday, but I was still feeling stiff and achy, plus had family stuff. Oh, well. Thinking that going up to four days a week might be too big of a jump, and that every other day is a more reasonable target. Today was my first run-in with someone who…

9/2: 2.6 9/3: 2.2 9/5: 4.0 Total 8.8 / 50.0 A lovely cool evening. I was kind of stiff and achy from moving up to two days in a row, and that stiff never really wore off. While I was cooling down, I would get really tight knees, then do a half dozen lunges and be fine, then a minute or two later be tight again. Time to do…

9/2: 2.6 9/3: 2.2 Total 4.8 / 50.0 I really prefer longer runs, but that's got to be a mental thing, and what fixes mental things is doing more of what you don't like.

9/2: 2.6 Total 2.6 / 50.0 Sprinkly rain this morning, and I had to wear my least favorite pair of shorts because they were the only ones clean. And I had to have a short run today, because I plan to run again tomorrow, and am using the "run half as far, on two consecutive days" method of adding a day without adding…

I am in for 50 for September. No big transitions, cooler weather, and sunset no earlier than 7pm mean that this month should be more keeping on keeping on than anything else. I would still like to add a day, going to T-Th-Sat-Sun, on which I made no progress last month. Concurrently with that, I'd like to bump my mileage…
