Melodious Blend. A frozen mix of lentils, green chickpeas, tomatoes, and olive oil with salt and pepper.

When I was doing C25K, and then the rest of that month, I had a "just runs" goal and a total mileage goal, which included warmup and cooldown walking, but not any walking on non-running days. I found that to be really helpful when I wasn't quite sure how much running I'd be able to do.

8/1: 3.1 8/3: 4.0 Total: 7.1/44 Even though I felt great and ready to run all day yesterday, I was not feeling it when I got up this morning. I'd eaten at maintenance the last two days, so did not eat anything before heading out. Had to reboot my phone before it would find GPS. Eventually I was trotting along happily…

Ovarian cancer. Uterine fibroids. Ovarian cysts. Sudden unexplained weight gain can be a symptom of all sorts of things that doctors blow off until it kills you. Dunno why you think that, because "clean eating," no matter what you mean by that, is utterly unrelated to weight gain. The onus is on the speaker to ensure…

Obviously, whatever works for you works for you. Just want to point out that one of the advantages of a structured plan like C25K is that it's designed specifically towards achieving a goal. If someone's goal is "be able to run 5k without stopping," C25K got me there in 9 weeks.

You've lost 15 pounds in 51 days. That comes out to a 1,030 calorie per day deficit. Keep on keeping on.

Finally, a level of specificity that makes sense to me! Thank you! When my sister was here last week with her baby, I bounced him up and down the street for an eternity, while chanting "The grand old Duke of York / he had ten thousand men / he marched them up the hill / and then he marched them down again. / When you're…

Nominal goal: 44 miles, calculated as 3 miles x 3 runs a week for the first 2 weeks, then adding a 4th day starting at 1 mile for the second 2 weeks. Actual goals: - Figure out how to run 3-4 days a week while also getting my teenager to and from school and activities and myself to work on time, while complying with my…

Respect the rest days! Your weeks don't have to line up with calendar weeks. Just make sure you have 1-2 rest days between every run day.

You have to be patient and in it for the long haul. I lost 35 pounds the first year, 5 the second, and 12 the third. I've got another 5? 25? somewhere in between? to go, and then maintenance is forever, so patience and a long-term outlook are useful.

I'm only 43, but when I graduated C25K earlier this month, I got to 2.4 miles in 30 minutes. The full 5k takes me 40+ minutes at training pace. I wouldn't mind losing some more weight (primarily in hopes that my blood pressure will improve with weight loss, since it hasn't improved with diet and/or exercise), but my diary…

I eat what I want, but the same way I buy what I want - keeping in mind the consequences. Sometimes when I go to the grocery store, I eyeball the Ben and Jerry's, then decide I'd rather spend my 1,200 calories on three more giant bowls of oatmeal with fruit, or six chocolate nut bars, which really means I'd rather have a…

I don't weigh on vacation, but go back to my normal every morning weigh-in as soon as I get back.

Hard to say. You might be overestimating your calories burned, and underestimating your calories consumed, in which case you're fine. Or you might be logging everything correctly, in which case you're increasing your risk of injury and/or loss of muscle mass.

300-500 is what the Fleet Feet said I could expect to get out of a typical pair of running shoes.

It's just normal fluctuation. Relax, eat and exercise normally, drink plenty of fluids, check back in a week or two. Even counting enough to ensure I'm eating at maintenance on vacation, 6 pounds of travel-related variance is not unusual for me. My digestion slows down, I retain more water because of increased sodium…

Oklahoma here. The hour starting at dawn is best; the hour ending at dusk is tolerable.

C25K is intentionally always 3 days a week. Gains are made on rest days.

If it helps you to hear from another newbie, I hit "can run 2 miles uninterrupted" 4 weeks ago and finished C25K ("can run 30 minutes uninterrupted," which for me was 2.4 miles) 3 weeks ago. Starting four weeks ago, I switched from 3 days a week to every other day, and once I finished C25K, I ran "a little bit farther"…

And none of those needs were mentioned to the entirely competent parent who was there the whole time, yeah. Water retention from increased exercise? That said, 2 pounds in 3 weeks is a decent rate of loss for the last 15 pounds. Slow loss rates are easily camouflaged by random water fluctuation, so keep on keeping on for a couple more months and see where you are.

You're an engineer; this is a problem that can be solved with Excel. Track your weight change (smoothed or raw), your intake, and your presumed exercise burn. Once you have a month or three of data, use that to calculate what your maintenance calories are, both TDEE (including intentional exercise) and NEAT (excluding…

Today was my 3-year anniversary of tracking weight / calories. In the first year, I lost 35.8 pounds. In the second year, 4.6 pounds. In the third year, 12.6 pounds. It is good to keep on keeping on, even when the progress seems slow.
