  • It does have antifungal effects. Also there are a number of these sorts of studies around. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4438142/ so there is some supported conclusions that it reduces blood sugar for some with insulin resistance.
  • Me too. We even make our own ice cream for those rare occasions that we want a treat (mostly when we have guests). I am lactose intolerance and my DH eats keto so homemade is the only way to go. We eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch most days (with some rotation) and save our cooking prowess for dinner. And we do…
  • I found this really interesting. Thanks for posting it. I am one of those with very low trigs and high everything else. They have medicated me to bring the LDL down and are threatening more medication if I cannot get it down through diet. Huuurrrrmmmmmphhhh. When I do the calculation the way this article suggests I am way…
  • Yeah, I wondered about that. And we don't want another group to moderate!!!!! I guess there is no way to set up the group but close it to added discussions. So it is an info site only. I don't know what is possible with mpf. Maybe another vote later on. I would possibly change my vote now.
  • I don't know the tech environment of MFP at all. But .... Is there any way we could have a public group which has all of our stickies in it and a single closed discussion thread which refers interested people to ask to join this private group? Sort of a stub public group with information. This does not solve the search…

  • Happy New Year all! Mary, it is the small goals that get this done! And sometimes the small actions make the biggest change. Good for you for enjoying things at Cheddars. I am sure that the vast majority do not eat healthy when they are there. We don't have that restaurant here that I know of but it certainly sounds as if…
  • I am sorting out which "cossie" to take to Oz with me.
  • I haven't read every post but one that I got in trouble with when I work in Oz was: canadian - - grilled cheese Oz - toasted cheese even though it was done on the same flat grill in the cafe as in canada
  • My DH had 3 rounds of kidney stones before this WOE, none after. He was diagnosed with T2D after the last round (3 years ago) and was told that kidney stones can be a sign of diabetes. He has not had any after changing eating habits and being medication for T2D. He does eat a lot of cheese (a family discussion point) but…

And lost it over Christmas. Back on the wagon now. I also slept the clock round last night. I was so short of sleep, I wasn't functioning at all. I…
  • It is a winner. It has a good summary of the diet and its reasoning at the beginning (Like our sticky it covers everything from cholesterol rising to keto flu) I used some of the appetizer recipes for Christmas. The regular recipes are straight forward and tasty. Particularly liked their slow cooked ribs. It does not…

Hopefully temporary gains but heck ...... Holidays are fun but I have to get control again. I am sorry you had such a budget…
  • Along with turkey, cranberry and veggies, yes, I will be having a salad. Diets have to be sustainable. Feast days are part of life.
  • @Nathasya, Good goals! For fitness, you want to concentrate on small steps of achievable goals. So, when you say you are tired when walking up steps, I am assuming that you lose your breath and have to take a moment to recover. So it is a really good goal to walk up stairs without becoming breathless. Running with friends?…
  • Hi Corrie, It is really difficult to be in a wheelchair for any reason. I am not but I know there are other members who are. Since you mentioned you are overweight, I am assuming that you join MFP to lose weight. If your interest is exercise, there are a number of books and videos available that would help you establish a…
  • Hi @nathasya, It is scary to make change. Sometimes it is scarier to stay where you are. Most people diet to look better and feel better about themselves. Some people diet for health reasons (but are very happy when they look and feel better). I think when it comes down to health, the motivation and determination stays…
  • Hi, You don't have to suffer with the keto flu: adding salt is the answer. Generally, you need to stay under 40-60grams of net carbs to stay in ketosis but it takes some time to get your body to a point where is happily can stay in ketosis or return to it easily. Or so my understanding goes. Lots of friends, knowledgeable…
  • Hi, Lots of good people and excellent information and support over at: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group Come and join.
  • Good stuff, Mary. .5 lbs, you will make, I have no doubt! I unfortunately did some baking yesterday that did not turn out. I really do not like the taste of sweetener and cookies show it off a great deal, so despite effort and tastings they hit the garbage. Gluten free flour waste not counting butter waste. Sigh. However,…
  • Do join ketoers over at: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group Lots of research, recipes and encouragement. There are 25,000 of us there!
  • You have started, I am sure it is again. But this time, this time, do it slowly, thoughtfully and carefully. In 1 year, only 1 year, you will look back and marvel at the new habits and all the weight you have lost. Think how you will feel! And hold on to that thought when times get difficult. We are not perfect, we are all…
  • There is no place like home. There is no place like home.
  • I was down a lb last week. Bouncing around this week but still holding that loss which in the week before Christmas, ain't bad.
  • Not trigs apparently but yes LDL lowering and total cholesterol. http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/69/1/30.full
  • Isn't dextrin from wheat? I think Benefiber manufactured in the states is wheat dextrin. (I am gluten intolerance but new at it so I am researching this stuff.) Benefiber in Canada is made from inulin and I do use it as a fiber supplement. And soluble fiber (either wheat dextrin or inulin qualify among others) is…
  • Yeah, you are right @kpk54 , I wasn't thinking. My step outside the box was definitely longer and deeper and I needed a kickstart to get started again. I use IF regularly, so my 18 fast yesterday was not much outside normal. @collegefbfan , just get back on your diet. It will rectify itself soon enough. We have to live!
  • Just been there myself. Water fasted until dinner yesterday. Weight increase gone and I feel a whole lot better today. Don't beat yourself up. Just fix it now.
