''... a tortoise's game rather than a hare's.'' Love this! It really is. Patience really is key, and I'm starting to understand that with patience AND determination, it IS possible to lose. After several years of half-hearted attempts, or gung-ho approaches that deflated after the initial 2lb-drop-in-2-days high, I'm…

I'm trying all these ideas. Flatlandrunning, I never realised there's that much salt in cottage cheese. Will be rinsing and draining from now on. Also, just remembered that I used to mix cottage cheese with low-cal Italian dressing when I wanted a creamier salad dressing ... haven't done that in a while. These days I…

I keep boiled eggs in the fridge for those days when I get home from work starving. It satisfies a craving, and by the time dinner's ready I'm not so hungry. I tend to make loads of veg for dinner so my plates are always full. I mix up cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, bean sprouts, spinach, and sometimes add in a spoonful…

Welcome back! I came back at the end of August - when I finally admitted to myself that no amount of wishing the weight away, fad diets or quick fixes were going to result in any meaningful physical or mental improvements. Best decision I ever made

I'm the same. I start out with good intentions, then once we're on vacation I tell myself ''well, a little bite of this won't hurt, one slice of pizza won't hurt, another glass of wine because we're on vacation ....''. We have a 2-week ski trip planned for January. I'll still be at least 10 lbs away from my goal weight if…

I actually use several, which isn't as obsessive as it seems! One site (Weight Grapher --> www.weightgrapher.com) doesn't have a mobile app, but I like the information it gives me, i.e. once you've logged for a month, the graph shows your trend line for this month and your trend line for the past month above it (so I can…

Hah! You're my Doppleganger! I'm 45 and started MFP again August 30 needing to lose 30 lbs. 2 months in and I'm left with 20 lbs to lose. The difference for me this time around has been getting through those first few weeks, choosing real foods and healthy meals the whole family enjoys, sitting down for meals, and weight…

Love what Graymanstole said. Last week my husband found a quote: ''Forget about perfection. Trust in the process.'' Since I started logging again in August of this year, I've had good days and bad. I have days where I lose weight, days where I gain. Days where I eat under calorie, days when I eat over. Days where I…

Welcome LadyJ1975 :-)

Logging my food the day BEFORE. I find this really helps me stay within or close to within my calorie range, and it's easier to make healthier choices when I'm full after dinner than on-the-spot at the lunch bar!

I have a lot of trouble engaging my abs too. When I started Pilates 2 months ago, my instructor noticed it right away - she suggested focusing on tightening/squeezing my butt to get my abs to kick in (e.g. when doing a bridge). For me, this has really seemed to help. With her guidance and constant reminders, these days I…

I like my wine too. I budget for it as much as I can, meaning I'll try to eat at a (slight) deficit one day in the weekend and allow myself a (few) glass(es) ;-) of the silly grape juice. It usually pushes me over my calorie limit, but I've decided I'm ok with that and willing to live with the consequences (i.e. smaller…

Absolutely stunning. What a transformation. You don't only look smaller; you radiate happiness! You look so well put together. Congratulations!

Me too! I've just opened up my diary to friends this week to be more accountable ... Let's see where it gets me!

I have definitely noticed a shift. Before my 40's and even after childbirth, my body didn't want to hold on to weight. Granted I used to run about 25-30 km a week, which I can't do anymore because of piriformis syndrome, but still ... I have to admit that the last two years (I'm now 45) I've been in an extremely sedentary…

Patharris2012, I'm 45 and just started MFP up again 2 weeks ago after finding myself in the 'overweight' BMI range (25.2) for the first time in my life and discovering I couldn't remove my wedding band. I've been struggling with perimenopausal symptoms since turning 41, with weight gain and a seeming inability to lose…

My most recent 'aha' moment came a week ago when we came back from a 3-week holiday and I realised my wedding band was stuck on my finger. I'm not taking it off for fear of not being able to put it back on ... which wouldn't be an option. I weighed myself the next morning and realised I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I…

Wow! I'm psyched by the friend requests off this post! Thanks ladies! At 5ft 6in, I weighed between 116 - 122 from the age of 16 to about 40. I never really weighed myself except at the doctor's. The night before giving birth I weighed 136 lbs. My mom kept on telling me it was in my genes ... she and all her female…

Hi, I'm going through the same. Trying to lose +/- 20 lbs. I've been exercising hard and eating 'fairly' well for the last 3 months. It's starting to come off at a snail's pace. I'm just coming off a week's vacation ... scared to step on the scale, because every lb lost so far required a LOT of effort, something I haven't…

Well done!!!! I also have to fit in a lot of exercise at 4:00 a.m. as a working mom, but the benefits far outweigh any negatives. Keep it up!

First of all, congratulations! Not only for sticking to it once, but for being here when times are tough. You're here, you're trying, and that's a huge part of the solution right there. Little changes make little differences that over time end up making a big difference. I've been working out for 10 weeks, nothing crazy,…

But have been exercising and logging faithfully; the scale's moving in the right direction, and more importantly, I'm feeling STRONGer.

I hear you. I started exercising for strength, energy and flexibility seven weeks ago. For the first six weeks, I ate healthy home-made meals, but didn't restrict anything other than alcohol. I did add in juicing twice a day (mostly veg with an apple for sweet) and tons of water (I used to get by on about 8 oz a day, now I…

Age (I'm 44), peri-menopause, an increasingly sedentary lifestyle over the last few years, and trying to continue eating like I've always eaten have led to a 20 lb weight gain over the last 2 years. Six weeks ago, I started working with a personal trainer, upped my water intake, started juicing, cut out alcohol, and just…
