  • I don't know. To be honest, the only people I've ever known who tried WW couldn't stick with it.
  • Give birth to quadruplets.
  • How do I contact the salad police? I'd like them to bring me a salad once in awhile. A spinach salad with boiled egg, carrots, onions, red cabbage, and broccoli with a raspberry vinaigrette, please.
  • I typically plan for a midnight bowl of oatmeal.
  • I have lots of experience in eating on a budget from my days as a starving studen, and now I just don't see paying more than $35-40 a week to feed my family of 4. I eat a cup of oatmeal with sugar-free syrup every day for 330 calories. 15 one-cup servings of Great Value Quick Oats (Wal-Mart) costs $2.48, 24 ounces of Great…
  • As everyone else said, a simple, "Well, good for you," and a quick change of subject seems to be in order.
  • I dunno. I use Endomondo when I hike, and it always gives me a number I know ain't right.
  • Lol, I feel your pain. My specialty is exploding boiled eggs on the ceiling.
  • Have your blood pressure checked. If you have high blood pressure, exercise can raise your already-high blood pressure and cause headaches. My husband and I are polar opposites -- I have hypotension, and he has hypertension. If his blood pressure is up, he gets headaches when he exercises. I get warm for a change.
  • The right diet is one that you can stick with and that gives you a calorie deficit.

  • Whatever's on sale at Wal-Mart, then I patch them for years before I finally let them die a not-so-dignified death.
  • Depending on how you're measuring your calories from walking on the treadmill, you could be overestimating your workout calories. Don't trust the calorie burn on the treadmill. There is no way that is accurate for anyone but the person they used to design it. And don't trust the MFP user-created ones, either. Again, there…
  • No, really. It was telling me I didn't burn even 1,000 calories a day, and I swear, I'm not bedridden. I knew it was off, and I figured it out quite easily, seeing that my estimated TDEE is way higher than that. These things don't work for everyone, honestly. Why do you think Fitbit was sued?
  • Weird, but thanks for the heads-up. I do that all the time.
  • Fitbits are inaccurate for some of us. I think, for me, it was the PPG technology they use and the fact that it's worn on the wrist. PPG measures light absorption through blood and correlates that with the heartbeat as blood volume increases and decreases. The fact that it's on the end of your arm means that the way you…
  • I know it's problematic, because you're eating food others have prepared for you, but could you at least ask your mom for the recipes that she cooks most often? My husband is our family chef; he took over for me after the third time I got boiled eggs all over the ceiling. (I think he got tired of cleaning it off for me.…
  • I think you could say I'm on the last 15 or 20 lbs. (I'm not sure, because I haven't weighed in almost a month while I focus on other stuff.) The thing I've found that is really helpful to me in this stage is exercise. Lots of exercise and eating at maintenance for 125#. I don't know that 125# will be my final goal, but…
  • Have fun, take a break from logging if you need one. We'll see you back here when you're home again!
  • Yeah, I'm not paying anyone to learn that I've got to be honest with myself about what foods I eat and that there is no "magic" involved with weight loss. It's great that this person I've never heard of has learned what works for her, but, as I found when all the other ladies in my homeschool group were encouraging me to…
  • Tell him that you buy it for you, and if he wants his own, you'll pick some up for him, but he needs to leave the stuff you get for yourself alone.
  • I had pizza for dinner tonight. I do that a couple times a month, because my husband is the family cook, and he likes to take Friday nights off. I had two slices, 600 calories, which fit nicely into today's calorie limit. As long as I don't surpass my calorie limit, I'm cool. Figure out your calorie limits for losing, eat…
  • I wouldn't worry about too much about limiting a particular macro (carbs, proteins, or fat). Just make sure you're eating a balanced diet with a reasonable (read: not too large or too small) calorie deficit and sufficient exercise, and you'll be fine. I can understand getting frustrated because your friend is losing at a…
  • Honestly, food scales are cheap. I bought mine for $15 on Amazon in 2014. It's marked down to $11 now.
  • I agree that you should see a doctor, but I'm curious. Is all exercise causing the soreness, or just lifting? If you can do cardio, maybe doing a little time on the treadmill will help with the putting on weight part?
  • YAS! Treadmills are BORING! I placed my treadmill facing a window and listen to audiobooks while I walk, so at least I've got something to do with my brain.
  • My Fitness Pal is a good tool, but we have to keep in mind that we're the ones who need to learn how to use the tool. And we're all different. Are you happy or unhappy with this rate of loss? Some of us want to lose more slowly, with good reason, others of us just want the extra pounds gone asap. If you're unhappy with…
  • I know it's a PITA if you're really busy, but if you want to get really precise, why don't you brew your own and add your own creamer?
  • It's one of the hobbit meal times - breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. Yes, I am that kind of nerd.
  • My body works basically the same way, except I like to have another "meal" right before bed. No struggle, I just eat when I'm hungry and I eat enough to satisfy my nutritional needs. Eating this way didn't make me fat, only my food choices did that. My bedtime meal used to be a dessert of some sort -- cookies, cake, etc.…
