If you're into the idea of a standing desk, ask your boss if it would be permissible to bring your own in. The only caveat I would give on this is to get one that allows you to either sit or stand. Standing while working is only going to burn 9 calories an hour, so don't look at it as a way to lose more weight. Maybe…

Since I'm a little leery of the exercise calories calculated by FitBit (mine were wildly inaccurate, but fortunately, I realized it right off), I would advise you to use caution in eating your exercise calories at first. I agree with eating only half back at first. Hopefully, over the next few weeks you'll get a feel for…

Some people find that things work better for them when I track my calories looking at the week as a whole. To use MFP in this way, go to Reports > Weekly Digest. This is what mine looks like today. Using MFP in this way, you can see for each week how you're doing and what you need to do to keep your weekly goals, whether…

I really like this advice. I'm going to second trying this.

I think MFP needs to rename this one. I still have no idea what it means. Some people think it means "woo hoo", some people think it means "junk science". I just don't use it.

Good advice above. I'll just add that you should remember that you won't always see your progress on the scale. You say you're fitter, and that's good! Sometimes, we need to look at more than just the scale to measure our success. Are your clothes looser? Is walking up stairs easier? Has your energy level improved? You…

I've actually been getting mildly irritated for the past couple of days by people on MFP being so focused on what the scale says, rather than on whether their fitness level is improving. That's probably because I recently decided to only weigh once a month and to focus on my fitness. I'll likely get over it and let them do…

Are you sure your doctor has a license? In medicine? The gall bladder has very little to do with digesting vegetables. Your gall bladder stores the bile our bodies use to digest fats. When it's removed, the bile just goes directly from your liver to your intestines (I forget which set). Last I checked, the kinds of…

I plugged your stats into my calorie calculator, and your TDEE without exercise is coming up 1663 calories. I'm slightly taller and a bit heavier. I'm currently eating at my goal TDEE and walking 4 miles a day, M-F. If this were a perfect world and my calorie calculator were 100% accurate and I were 100% accurate at…

Whatever you choose, make the choice that's going to be best for you. I choose to use a different calculator based on the Harris-Benedict formula, because trial and error has led me to believe that it's most accurate for me. I calculated my TDEE calories for my goal weight and didn't include exercise. So, I"m not dieting…

I picked mine, because that was the weight I was happy with before I let myself go. I have no idea where I'm going to end up, though. It might turn out to be much different, though, because I didn't work out back then. I'll know when I'm 'there' by how I look and perform.

I guess I'm a rare unicorn like you. Who knew we were rare? I eat at what my maintenance calories will be at my goal weight, eat back a little of my exercise calories, but my deficit is mostly created through exercise. I honestly thought that was how you created a deficit without starving yourself. I guess I should starve…

Omigosh... There are others like me!

Don't you love it when unhealthy people are dispensing advice on how to eat right? This totally reminds me of when my friends on FB were advising me that our pediatrician is treating our daughter's anemia in the wrong way, lol! I didn't say it, but I found myself thinking, "I didn't know you paired that History major with…

Honestly, I'm 5'1", and I'd be thrilled to weigh what you do, lol. Are you sure that you want to lose weight on the scale, or would you be happier with a body recomposition (losing fat and gaining muscle)? If recomposition is what you really want to go for, this article gives advice on how to find calorie requirements for…

^ What NovusDies said. But I would also ask, Are you planning to exercise? Even just a little cardio can help make your diet not seem so restrictive. Depending on your size, walking 5K or more a day can increase your calorie intake to 1800 or even 2000, and that's not nearly so hard to do as 1500. Also, as a former…

If they compliment you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, make a joke. "Ugh! You make me feel so fat!" "I used to do that to myself all the time. I finally decided to do something about it." And then let the conversation go its natural way. If they want any particulars on how you lost the weight, share the basics…

I can't remember the name of the guy who put this together (he's on this forum), but I've found this calculator to work pretty well for me. (I also don't like MFP's recommendations for me.) Maybe give it a try? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1G7FgNzPq3v5WMjDtH0n93LXSMRY_hjmzNTMJb3aZSxM/edit#gid=0

Here's my question, and I'm not being critical, just curious. Why do you care about losing 10 lbs? Why is your concern with a number on the scale, rather than how you look, how you perform etc.? What about your body isn't pleasing to you, and why do you think that not working out for a time is going to improve that?

Here's a little tip that has helped me immensely with the hungries: leave enough calories at the end of the day to have a cup of oatmeal with 4 tbsp sugar free syrup. 333 calories, and it keeps me from wanting to eat all the things. (I was a notorious midnight snacker, so I have my oatmeal around 10:00 pm.) As for the…

Don't trust the MFP entries. They were entered by users, and there's no way of knowing who entered the exercise. It could have been entered by a lady who was 5' and weighed 130# or a gentleman who was 6'4" and weighed over 300#. A MFP friend of mine posted this calorie calculator the other day that seems pretty accurate,…

Thanks for the advice, Rose. Sorry I've been busy, but my knee is certainly something to consider in all this. Now, I have to figure out how I can find one to test for a full workout. (Recently, I've been walking for an hour straight at around 5K per hour.) Maybe one of my friends has one and I just don't know it... I'll…

Call me kooky, but that's what I'm kind of looking for -- something that will kick my butt. Thanks, that really helps, too. I do know of a local store with a display model I could try. I just didn't know how long it would take for me to see whether it's for me or not. My treadmill doesn't seem near quitting on me, but I've…

I don't have bursitis, but I have gout. I take hemp seed oil to calm the inflammation, and I eat <25 g of sugar a day to control my body's production of uric acid. I went from having to use crutches every couple of months to walking 5K five time a week. I don't know if bursitis is affected by sugar intake, but you might…

I log it, so I can keep track of my workouts, and I log the guesstimated calories, because, well, I like to see how hard I'm working.

If you get to use it, I hope you record the event and post it.

I have lymph nodes that swell at the drop of a hat, so I'm never disturbed by them getting larger. I just know my body's fighting something. However, it sounds like that's totally abnormal for you. Just to be safe, have the doctor check them out.

Hey, it's progress in the right direction! Good for you!
