  • I recently became a beachbody 'coach', but for me it's not at all about trying to push sales, I'm just loving how it's working for me so much that I wanted an excuse to make a website about it and tell people about it all the time. Yeah, there are some ads and links on my site, but it's mostly just a log of my thoughts and…
  • Wow, nice attack. Did you even read the Snopes link? "using google" will get you whatever is most often repeated on the internet, not truth. For some things this works fine, but for other things, the most repeated stuff can be myth or just straight-out crap. I'd try to refute you, but the snopes article is pretty…

  • I can't imagine it doing any good, but by all means, wrap an electric blanket around your stomach for a while. It'll probably help relax your muscles at least.
  • I've had terrific results with P90X, You can see on my ticker what it's doing to my gut. I've been keeping a log of some of the workouts, along with some other thoughts about it at http://www.coachskip.com
  • Not really. Potassium is what prompts your renal system to eliminate sodium. You should drink plenty of water anyway. If you're really only 40 over on sodium, I guarantee you're doing better than 99% of the general population.
  • Heh, These are all good 'motivations' to get through a workout, but I think th OP was talking about actual energy. once you get past about 40 minutes of aerobic exercise, that's when the real action starts happening with respect to fat burning, etc. If you find yourself starting to conk out, a little bit of sports drink or…
  • You might need more calories, especially if you are exercising. Make sure you log your exercise and eat those calories it gives you.
  • Since I started using this site, I've been paying attention to my sodium intake, as one of my stats that appears. I have correlated days when I have gained an unreasonable amount of weight, say a 2-lb gain from the day before, with an unusually high sodium intake that day (some days I get up above 4 grams! :noway: ) I have…

  • That is, I'm afraid, what they call an "old wives' tale". There have been several recent studies that say that the caffeine content of coffees and teas has no effect at all on their ability to hydrate your body. Of course, drinking cup after cup all day long isn't particularly good for you - any herbal product consumed to…

  • Have you talked with your Beachbody Coach? They should be able to help you more with this, but offhand, yeah, I'd say you're trying to do too much and expecting too fine-grained results. Trying to tie a specific pound of weight gain or loss to a specific day's calorie intake or exercise output is futile - you need to stick…

  • Black coffee has essentially no calories.

  • Hm. My Wii Fit reports in tenths of pounds, if I recall correctly. Anyway, isn't it a simple math problem? stones = int(lbs/14), pounds = 14*((lbs/14)-stones)... I don't see how rounding can add up to more than 0.5 lb difference?
  • Spreading your calories out is a very good idea. The more frequently your body sees incoming fuel, the more your metabolism will be willing to burn all the time. Eat only 2-3 times a day and you'll spend most of your time in starvation mode, hoarding energy in case there's no more coming, especially if you're running a…
  • Make sure to compare the packages, I found 2 brands right next to each other - one with 480 mg sodium, the other with only 360. I had decided to give up the cottage cheese due to the sodium, but finding that 'lighter' variety, I'm able to work it in.
  • I don't do much running anymore, and I don't have any specific advice for you other than saying definitely look at the shoes. When I was in the army, at one point I had all kinds of knee trouble from daily running. Replaced my worn shoes, and it was like magic - knees felt better immediately. Kind of like when you go too…
  • You know, posting a link like that with no summary of the content always says to me 'loony nutjob wants me to LEARN THE TRUTH', and I assume it's going to be something like the timecube, so I typically don't even bother clicking. You should post at least the summary on the site: I've been doing some reading about fructose…
  • Well, it's better than sitting on the couch, but I ultimately found it to be way too limiting. Its flaws as a fitness tool are many, just beginning with the fact that setting up a 'My Routine', you can't up the number of reps. You can string several instances of the same exercise together, but then you have to doze through…
  • I've often thought that a feature that shows you some suggestions of what to eat would be good, but programming it would be a bear, I think. Really, though - part of what you can achieve here is to become more aware of what you eat over the course of a day and see how it all adds up. Don't fret if you go over for a day,…
  • An interesting fact about spinach - kept under continuous fluorescent lighting in the supermarket, spinach actually increases in nutrient density over the course of several days. You might not want to pick the absolute freshest bunch they have! http://www.physorg.com/news186838048.html
  • I was skeptical of fish in tacos, too, but after having that recipe... I swear - I would eat those every day. Make sure to stick to the seasoning recipe. I think the Smoked Paprika is an important complement to the lime in the sauce.
  • I really like this fish taco recipe: http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1559245 I make it with Tilapia, and I use cabbage, carrot, and broccoli slaw instead of straight cabbage for a good crunch, but it's not bad with lettuce, either.
  • Just go by the same one every time and don't worry about it so much. Although, it would surprise me if the Wii balance board reported differing weights.. Maybe each software assumes different things for clothes weight? Have you actually done back-to-back measurements? Remember that your weight goes up and down throughout…

  • Yeah, you don't have to spend a lot for recovery drinks, but they are very important in order to not feel sore the next day. I use Ovaltine. Google 'Chocolate Milk Recovery Drink'. You can spend 3x as much for some scientific handwaving, but the important part is just having something between 3:1 and 5:1 carb:protein…
  • I really can't comprehend fouling a good cup of coffee with artificial flavors, hydrogenated fats, and corn syrups. It's like stirring a dollop of peanut butter into a glass of wine or salting your beer. Now, maybe, -maybe-, I could see a shot of espresso with a whole bunch of cane sugar dissolved in it, as a dessert.…

  • For those who say they are sore after doing P90X workouts, I can't recommend a 'recovery drink' enough. You'll hear Tony talking about it often on the DVDs, and it seems kind of like a sales pitch for their products (and it is, of course), but it doesn't have to be theirs specifically. Google 'chocolate milk recovery…
