  • I snack on whatever I want, but I measure/weight/count it. If I'm in the mood for crackers and the portion size is 10 for 140 calories, for example, then I only eat 10. I have never felt deprived a single day since starting this journey. That being said, one of my favorite little indulgences has been 1/4 cup of almonds and…
  • We're not gamers...my parents surprised us with the Wii for the kids a couple of years ago, so we're not intending on upgrading (at least not until they are old enough to harrass us into it! lol), so I am hoping that Santa brings me Biggest Loser.
  • I'm in! A coworker is going to make me a copy of hers!!
  • Christmas Shoes and that horrible, maudlin "Another Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg. He runs into an old girlfriend at the grocery store and they go drink beer in her car. So Christmassy. What I dislike about these two songs is that they are sappy for the sake of being sappy. I feel like someone is trying…
  • Another great book: The Sugar Solution. It talks a lot about insulin resistance, which is "pre-diabetes." Very interesting read.
  • Texted the coworkers who have not yet RSVP'd for my volunteer appreciation luncheon this Friday. Ooooh...glamourous!
  • We do our own cleaning here: every employee has a "task" that we're supposed to do every Friday. I don't care if the floors don't get mopped regularly or if the boardroom doesn't get dusted, but for the love of Pete, could the people in charge of the bathrooms please, please, please do your fricking task! :grumble: You…
  • Fruits are not freebies...they have a lot of sugars in them which ups their calorie count. I do log my veggies, though it's really just a blip in the overall scheme of things. For example, if you have a salad that has about 2 cups of lettuce in it, that's only about 15 calories.
  • The same way I have been doing it all along: moderation, portion sizes, better choices. At my parents' place on Christmas Day, the dining table will be laden with treats and snacks all afternoon, but one of my aunts always brings a veggie tray and a fruit tray. I will load up on those and steer clear of the chips,…
  • Of the most serious relationships I've been in, 3 have been with younger men (2.5 years younger, 1.5 years younger and 5 years younger). The first two, I didn't really notice the difference: the first, we were in high school, the second we were in university. But the 3rd guy, I was 24 and he was about to turn 20. I had…
  • I have been logging my calories religiously since the first day I signed up. That's it. Watching what I eat, making better choices, really paying attention to portion sizes (I bought a cheap food scale at Walmart and I use it a lot!). Now that I'm so close to my ultimate goal, I need to tone up my flabby parts (I've had 4…
  • I'm the Mama of C(atherine), A(lexander), E(mma) and I(sabelle). Didn't damage any brain cells coming up with that one!
  • Hi all, I'm Kristina. My highest non-pregnant weight was 195, which was when I got pregnant with my youngest and what I weighed right after she was born. When I started MFP in May, I weighed 186 with the goal of getting to 150. When I reached that in Oct., I decided I would go for another 10 lbs by Christmas. I'm currently…
  • That's me!! I'm 5'6 and have lost 42 lbs so far. :)
  • It's a symbol of our commitment to each other; I would probably feel just as connected to him if I didn't wear one, but it's a concrete outward reminder of our love. Plus, his matches mine, which means a lot to me. My parents have matching wedding bands, so growing up, I thought everyone did that. I was really surprised…
  • Same here: a few months ago, my fingers didn't reach around my wrist and now they do. But I consider myself a large frame because I have wide shoulders. I'm actually in the higher part of my "healthy" BMI range, but I would look like death warmed over if I was closer to the low end of it. There's a reason that it's such a…
  • The geography teacher at my high school was Richard Moore. I don't think I need to spell out what we called him behind his back.
  • Flavoured coffee creamers (though I'm trying to get by with 1 tbsp rather than 2!) Chocolate in any form. I've found it relatively easy to cut back/cut out salty snacks; I've even cut back on the amount of cheese I eat. But chocolate is like crack to me.
  • You show faster with every subsequent pregnancy because your body "remembers" what it has to do, so don't worry that people are already asking if you're pregnant. With my 3rd pregnancy, people asked me constantly if I was sure it wasn't twins again. (I had twins the 2nd time.) I'd say eat when you feel the need to, but…
  • You guys all look amazing! I love these posts!
  • Because I had a complete stranger make a snarky comment about the number of Halloween size chocolate bars I ate one day.
  • I only record on Fridays, but I weigh myself every couple of days to see how things are shaping up.
  • For me, it has been the opposite. The person I saw in the mirror was how I used to look years ago, before marriage and kids and life. I was totally in denial about how big I had become; clothes didn't fit right, but it was the clothes' fault. I wasn't seeing reality in the mirror, I was seeing what I thought I looked like.…
  • How long have you been at it? How much are you looking to lose? 1500 calories seems a bit high to me, MFP has never had me much over 1400 for a goal of 1 lb/week. You may need to start exercising more to jump start your metabolism (though to be honest, I have lost 41 lbs without exercise).
  • I've been using Wii Sports, but I asked Santa to bring me The Biggest Loser or Just Dance. :)
  • When you look up breastfeeding, make sure you find one that gives you more than just the extra calories: extra fat, carbs and protein are crucial so that your production doesn't rob you of your nutrients. :) I found one that gave 300 calories and something like 15 g of everything else and it's been working for me.
  • My recommended amount from MFP has been between 1300 and 1400, plus I add an extra 300 for breastfeeding and I almost always go over by a bit, so really, I've been eating around 1700+ calories per day and still losing 1 to 2 lbs per week (sometimes more). As for the hunger you feel when you lower your caloric intake, I…
  • I am living proof: how much you eat and what you eat is more important than exercise. Calories in vs. calories out. I log my calories religiously and I've lost 41 pounds since May. I have 4 kids, a husband and a full-time job, so I just do not have time for regular exercise in my day.
  • I haven't used butter or margarine on my toast for years, way before I started my healthier habits. I just put peanut butter on it. It's what I have for breakfast pretty much every morning.
  • We have a Keurig at the office and I have a Tassimo at home. Sure, Keurig has like 300+ flavours, but all it does is heat water and put it through the cup, no different than a regular drip coffee machine. Whether you're having tea, coffee, hot chocolate, whatever, it's all made exactly the same. Tassimo has the barcode and…
