Restaurants cook by recipes. It wouldn't be any more of a hardship for them to count what they put in a batch, divided by number of portions, and posting it (give or take) so people can make informed decisions. They only have to do it once -- kinda like us creating a recipe on MFP! The whole point is that NONE of us have…

First of all, this thread was started by a 49-year old woman. That said, I absolutely agree that older people, especially post-menopausal women, have enormously different dietary needs than young people, and one size does not fit all. And that's the point. We older women are DAILY confronted by said younger people (and,…

Dear ladies who think the phrase "real women" in the context of "just plain folks" is somehow insulting: Lighten up. If you're gonna be this sensitive throughout your life, you're going to need more than the gym to work out all your stress, and it won't matter how thin or buff you are. The "real" point of the Ladies Who…

LOL -- You're welcome. Cheers! ;c)

Women over 40 (and especially over 50) -- Please come join this group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/9239-the-ladies-who-lunch No skinny teenagers or bulky body-builders... just real women "of an age" who know ourselves and our bodies, have been through childbirth and/or menopause, enjoy real food, and will…

I'm 55 and lost 50 lbs last year on ~1200 calories--eating nutrient-dense, whole foods and lots of them. It's amazing how much more you can eat when you abandon fake food. My vitals are perfect, my clothes fit, my TDEE is about 1540, and I do some pilates and take walks, but I will never be an athlete, gym rat, or exercise…

This whole thread is sad.

I weigh everyday, 1st thing in the morning, and record it. It helps me recognize the foods/behaviors that have impact, especially since I calorie cycle. Once I reach my goal and get into maintenance, my plan is the switch to weekly. Like most things in life -- whatever works for you...

I went through a 100-year hurricane the same year I turned 50. The next three years were very fattening. The last two have been normalizing.

Cut out processed foods, baked goods, and refined sugar and I bet you'll see a change.

I LOVE shirataki noodles and often eat the whole package at once. That said, they need to be prepared. Drain & rinse them thoroughly under hot water for a few minutes in a strainer to get rid of that fishy smell. Then pat them dry. Throw them in a pan with oil or sauce and they will take on whatever flavor you give them.…

Once you buy the tofu, slice it about 1/2" thick, put one slice in a frying pan with a little sesame oil and lightly brown on each side. Then do a taste test of the cooked one next to the cold one. I think you'll get the idea of how versatile it is from that. BTW - I divide the block into 6 pieces, with each 2 slices = 1…

Try again. I got it.

I'm from New Orleans, so wine is normal at my table, too. I pour one XX ounce glass (on the food scale), and don't allow myself to refill it. So I sip slowly all night instead of going back over and over again. Once my glass is empty, I'm back to water. On date night, I allow myself up to three light (no sugary mixers)…

Nope, not saying that at all. I am saying that many (possibly most) will not.

I just keep seeing young(er) guys on MFP coach women "of an age" as if they were 25 -- with the assumption that their bodies will all respond the same way to way higher calorie counts and that a life of regular heavy lifting is in their futures. There's a real reality gap in that, I think.

You can do it any way you like. The point is that you have a day or two of very low calories (500-600) split up however you want, and then eat "normally" the rest of the week for a net WEEKLY average of whatever your magic number is. That means you can have a night out or some other higher calorie day without worrying…

Brie, camembert, provolone, swiss, feta, mozzerella, jack, gruyere, parmesan, havarti, bleu, asiago, cotija, romano, gouda, raclette, cheddar, chevre, edam, colby, fontina, gorgonzola, limberger, munster, queso blanco, on and on and on. Cheese is white. American cheese isn't even cheese. It's manufactured from milk, whey,…

^^^This! If your good health is dependent on something you hate, you will fail. Make lifestyle changes that make you happy. Eat foods that are delicious and find activities you enjoy. Good health is not a punishment.

^^^Yes! Me, too.

You either think eating pesticides is the same as not eating pesticides or you don't.

It's about health & safety, not taste.

I'm back where I was before the holidays, and trying to break through a 6-month plateau and lose the next 10 pounds by my next vacation in June. I think I've got this maintenance thing down. Too bad that's not what I'm trying to do! ;c)

@Sabine -- I tried that because it seemed to make so much sense, but my body pretty quickly adjusted to that level of calorie intake and I stopped losing. It actually had the undesirable effect of lowering my TDEE. When I reach my goal weight, hopefully I can adjust back up to that level. The body has an amazing capacity…
