  • I'm a research scientist (only slightly socially awkward - except when I've had a couple of pints, then I'm just socially inappropriate) and have just got back into lifting  No gifs, but hopefully in 10 weeks I can post something in the success stories board! Fingers crossed anyway...
  • This is a great idea! Though even easier, ask your butcher to mince the meat for you
  • Are you able to see a different doctor? Or maybe they can refer you to a physio?
  • Thanks for the comments  In terms of squats, as soon as I can do 5x5 I increase the weight. So the next time I might not complete my 5th set - then once I can complete 5 sets, I increase the weight again. I'm currently squatting 95lb (including the bar..) which I completed yesterday, so tomorrow I will increase the…
  • I have to ask - what's a burpee?
  • Take a look at some youtube videos to learn the proper form for squats - it really helped me figure out how to get it right  I always aim to squat so my knees don't go beyond my toes - sure, they might hover over a little, but my bodyweight is uniformly distributed over the whole of the foot, rather than just the…
  • Chicken breast stuffed with spinach and mushroom
  • This is a crazy idea - but maybe they look great because they're athletes? I'm sure lots of athletes also eat pizza, look how great they look! I'm gonna go eat some pizza, maybe I can look that good too... Ok, so i'm kidding around, but in all seriousness here - I can't imagine why an professional athlete would…
  • I would also suggest porridge - but as you don't like it.... Oaty millkshake  Have a base of oats and milk - then blend with whatever you feel like! Breakfast milkshake, but with the filling properties of oats. And because it's not cooked, it doesn't thicken to stodge and is easily drinkable. Nothing like porridge…
  • Wrong country... and that's definitely two words.
  • When I started lifting 3x per week I saw some amazing changes in 3 months. So just another voice here to add support... it CAN be done and i'm sure you'll do it!
  • I'm also in the UK and I buy 'Meridian' brand - it's 100% peanuts! I buy it in my local independent greengrocer, but you can also order it from Amazon.
  • Another vote here for Aldi. Especially over summer when they have blueberries in the super 6 - 69p for a pack of blueberries! When the same can be upwards of £2 in the 'big' supermarkets... currently 1kg of carrots is 39p, last week they had butternut squash for 69p. I have never had a problem with things going off…
  • Just to confirm - you will be eating 1900 cals a day and netting 1400 through exercise?
  • Unless they are suggesting you actually set fire to small pieces of your flesh, I think this is just known as exercise and healthy diet
  • If oil/butter/fats are added they will make the bread last longer - French bread has none in which is why it will go stale very quickly. If you want the bread to be edible tomorrow, or you are making a ciabatta/focaccia style bread, then add the oil. If you are eating it all today then i'd say it's optional
  • What study is this from?
  • None of those things make someone a troll.
  • BSc Biology In a year I will have: PhD in Evolutionary Biology
  • Better in what kind of way? Taste? Calories?
  • My favourite autumn/winter fruit recipe is Spicy Baked Apple. First you make the stuffing - some dried fruit like sultanas, raisins, maybe something like cranberries too? Then mix this with some orange juice, a little brown sugar, melted butter, allspice, cinnamon and some flaked almonds. It should be a 'spoonable'…
  • I've never tried this, but just thinking out loud - how about roasting with some soy sauce and ground ginger? Maybe some powdered garlic/lemongrass for a thai twist? Especially if you throw some coconut chunks into the mix
  • Do you need a recipe to roast nuts? Is it not just nuts + oven = roasted nuts? I feel like i'm missing something  Edit: ok, just realised perhaps you are looking for recipes for flavoured roast nuts. Maybe try some savoury options? I'm guessing all the sweet ones will have sugar. Maybe something like roast with…
  • I think there must be some sort of miscalculation going on somewhere... there is approx 2g fat per 100ml of semi-skimmed milk. So to be consuming 76g of fat through semi-skimmed milk you must be drinking 3.8 litres of milk per day... I don't even want to imagine the amount of tea that would be! About 200 cups of tea per…

  • I am also very new to running, so don't take my response as definitive! But this is just what I have picked up... Superdry I would say is definitely a fashion brand - not practical sportswear. North Face does good warm weather proof jackets, for things like hiking and mountaineering. However, i've read that you should…
  • I make my own  so I know exactly what's in it! No thickeners, stabilisers or sweeteners... delicious! It tastes so fresh too. I use a yoghurt maker, but it is still pretty easy without one - all it does is maintain the correct temperature for 12 hours or so.
  • I've really noticed a difference in my arms since doing standing overhead presses 3x per week - 5 reps, 5 sets, a dumbbell in each hand as heavy as I can go! Currently at 44lb, which feels like a lot for my weak little arms
  • I don't know, I eat sandwiches :frown:

  • Absolutely, it is really not OK to ban drink refills, but it is OK to try and ban abortions. Yeh, drink refills are definitely the more important issue here. (Some of my posts have been taken the wrong way lately... so disclaimer here  My post it isn't a personal dig at you, i'm sure you vote republican for…
  • Hello! I hope you have a great time - apologies for the weather :ohwell: Kopparberg is a Swedish brand of cider - so both carbonated and alcoholic  It should have a % value somewhere on the packaging! I personally shop in Aldi - although the variety is generally much poorer, the fruit and veg is FAR cheaper than…
