  • I'm not majorly fit, but working on it. I'm training for two half marathons (about 8 weeks apart) later in the year. I run every second day, I just find that works best for me to avoid injury which works out to 3-4 times a week. Last month I ran 105km (65.6 miles), this month it will be a little more than that (I follow…
  • Sounds great! I'm in :-)
  • I wear a nose clip so my breathing is through my mouth except on flip turns when I still exhale through my nose a bit, the clip is not so tight so as not to allow for that. I never really thought about if there was a right or wrong way, I have plenty of other areas to focus my technique concerns on so its not a top…
  • Well its nearly the end of the month and I won't be exercising or weighing in tomorrow so here's my final check in for June... - Lost 3.4kg, surpassing my 2kg goal, - Ran 107.7km (90km goal) - Swam 18km (16km goal) ...Blasted them all out of the water and feeling really good. Bring on July! How did everyone else get on?
  • I live on an island but its an altogether different island in an all together different hemisphere. I've been to Vancouver, nice place!
  • In the southern hemisphere we have pride at an all together different time of year. In Auckland its in February. My wife was at the *kitten* march for world pride in Toronto today though, a great time was had from what I heard. Happy pride everyone :-)
  • This! ^ So well said. As for me, my wife is 14 years older than I am, I'm 34 and she is 48. Neither of us went out looking for someone with an age difference, we just happened to find each other and fall in love. We both want the same things for our future and each bring wisdom to the relationship in our own different…
  • Adapting is so important it can be frustrating when our bodies won't do what we want them to, but to avoid further injuries great to listen to them. Swimming is awesome! I usually swim twice a week and really enjoy it
  • Hi everyone, I thought I'd do my weekly check in today as I may not have time tomorrow. Hows everyone been doing this last week? My weeks been ticking along well... -Lost 3.3kg - I've surpassed by 2kg goal and still have more than a week left, woo! -Ran 77.8km of my 90km goal, -Swam 11.8km of my 16km goal
  • Welcome new comers! Great that you have joined us And awesome job everyone who has posted success updates, looks like we're doing very well. This is my second update So far in June I have... -Lost 1.5kg - nearly at my 2kg target and hope to surpass it -Ran 54.6km of my 90km goal, woo! -Swam 8.3km of my 16km goal Feeling…
  • I shake my head too, tilt it to the side, or if all else fails, hop on one foot with my head to the side - it works every time!
  • I think its technically another running site but i have that covered already with nike+ and mapmyrun so just use it for the apps which are fantastic. you can start out with the free version for level one and then if you like it upgrade to the pro version like i did. let us know how you got on
  • I highly recommend the runtastic push up and sit up apps (and the squats one actually) they give you increasing sets to do, I started back in february doing about 10 push ups spread into 2 3, 3, 2 or something like that. Now I am doing 96 in total 32,22,18,14,10 so its really a great way to build up and get stronger great…
  • I'll see how i go
  • Hi everyone, How are you all going with your goals? After one week I am feeling pretty good with where I am at... -I've lost 0.8 of the 2kg I'm aiming for this month -Run 28km/90kms -Swam 1.7/16kms Yay!!
  • I love this app! I'm using it for every run at the moment, not so much for gps or running stats (I use nike+ watch for that), but just for the stories and game element. I have just finished season 1 and will start the new season on my next run. I have had the zombie chases turned off until now but I may be brave enough to…
  • Etiquette at my pool, and all of the pools I have swum at come to think of it (there's not that many, maybe 3) is that you just join the lane which best matches your pace. No-one asks as its well understood that while we probably all prefer to have a lane to ourselves none of us own the pool or any of the lanes (unless you…
  • Swimming is sort of my side thing, I tend to run 3-4 times a week and swim 1-2 times. I love swimming but I love running too and for the time being at least that is what I am more focussed on. I also do strength training without weights as I don't belong to a gym and don't really want to invest in any at this stage -…
  • I'm having a bit of trouble getting up to 60 seconds Day 9: 24 seconds Day 10: 55 seconds (nearly there)
  • Awesome goals everyone! I look forward to seeing how we each progress. Anyone else want to join before we get too far into the month?
  • Day 8: 45 seconds, don't know if that time could have gone any slower! Feeling quite worried about tomorrow. How is everyone else getting on?
  • Day 7: 45 seconds ...made it!
  • haha, ok will try that ...breathing included
  • I didn't do any drills yet, I don't have a kick board or any other "props", so I just tried the 2 beat kick while swimming and that seemed pretty good. I probably need to watch some more videos and ideally get someone to watch me swim to take a look at what I am doing, its a little hard to tell myself. I am a bit put off…
  • Welcome emzyfish :-) Trying is all any of us can do. If it increases too quickly you can always adapt and stay on the same length of time for longer, I imagine I may be doing that as things progress. Nice job yorkshiregoal! As for me... Day 4 today, 30 seconds done
  • Awesome! Keep us updated with how you're going
  • Day 3: 30 seconds done, getting a little harder but still manageable without breaking out a sweat
  • Thanks for your answer! Yes, I probably could have phrased that more appropriately rather than saying that kicking wasn't important - I'm aware about the need to have this part of the body elevated and made use of but I seem to really struggle with the speed of the kick - I either kick too quickly in which case I can only…
  • Hi everyone, I've been a member of swimmers! group for quite some time but only recently got back on MFP and back to the pool. Was glad to find this thread, it's very interesting and useful! I have a question about kicking for freestyle . I hate kicking with a passion and back a few years ago when I started swimming very…
