  • I damaged my rotator cuff at work last November. I was still on track for being within BMI normal ranges. I got lazy and dumb and gained back 14 pounds. I left work early and went to the gym.
  • o Unless you are on beta-blockers and/or a full time professional athlete bradycardia is not something to just shrug off. o Just to be on the safe side, see a GP and get an EKG o Holtor monitor couldn't hurt

  • BMI is a single piece in a huge puzzle of health for each individual. I'll use myself as an example here. My BMI is currently 37.4 at 253.3 lbs. Now, I'll open up some of my labs to all of you. Normal Cholesterol 158 mg/dL 125-200 mg/dL Final Normal Triglycerides 90 mg/dL 0-150 mg/dL Normal HDL Cholesterol 43 mg/dL 40-199…

  • That's bradycardia, and given your Hx it shouldn't be ignored or otherwise brushed aside. See your GP and get a ref. to a Cardiologist ASAP. Plenty of super fit people end up dead in our department (cardiology) because of sudden cardiac death, usually due to an undiagnosed condition. BMP Troponen T Lipid panel EKG Holter…
  • 270/day in the form of 1 starbucks mocha frappe. It is my great nutritional sin.
  • If it helps, my post workout lunch was a single slice of whole grain bread and a tablespoon of PB.
  • What you are doing, keep doing it. This is working. This is making sure that I, or one of my colleagues don't see you in the cath lab within 5 years. Great effort on your part.
  • I've started sneaking in "calibration" stress tests (Bruce Protocols) to get a bit of extra cardio. I did 3 last week. That is just how crazy it gets here at times.
  • Yes, period. 1043 c/d is too few. Eventually, and by that I mean within a week the first problems will start to show up. After that start saying bye bye to your lean muscle and hello to a world of health issues.
  • I'm on 82g on non-lift days and 139 on lift days.
  • Physical therapy, seriously. It will help you get back on track faster.
  • Higher than normal T4 most likely due to the IUD frankly. See Endo, but see an OB/GYN about it as well.
  • I'm a PA and it is the same for us. It is how I gained a lot of my weight. Even after you are out of school can you guess what MDs like to do with PAs? Throw us on a ton of scut so that their interns can get the 2nd and 1st assist work in GS. That means I get plopped down in front of a computer or patient half of the week.…
  • Rucking is a military term originally. It comes from ruck sack. A few things about backpacking/rucking. 1. Start out easy, then build 2. Use boots once you start tacking on the weights. Failure to do so will result in you spraining or flat out snapping your ankles. 3. Take care of your feet and your body in general while…
  • I'm going to try to answer what I can here, without a CBP, comprehensive Hx, etc. Your T4 is higher than normal by 3.3 µg/dl by the most up to date protocols - and that is a concern. Unless you are on contraceptives or anything containing dextrothyroxine - I'd see an Endocrinologist.
  • Yes, lift, lift more after that and then lift some more. No matter what the weight goal is think of it this way - what good is losing 40 lbs when after you are so weak you can't lift a tv remote.
  • I said no to a light workout.
  • I'm in the process of quitting and whenever I wan't a smoke - I do some flutter kicks.

  • Ensure you have a solid protein intake plan. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate more. Ice baths are strange at first, a bit uncomfortable even. They are so worth it though. NSAIDs, take as needed, but a word of caution. If you have GERD, ulcers, any serious GI issues consult with a medical professional first.
  • This right here is sound advice. If your personal trainer is saying don't push yourself so hard and you feel fine pushing, push away. If your trainer is saying push harder and you just heard a loud pop in your knee and feel a stabbing pain, throat punch them and seek medical attention.
  • I'm a PA-C Surgical Resident so here goes...without all the CoA protocols. At worst you may get a small contusion near the injection site. This is typically caused by the puncture wound and vascular changes workouts (vasodialation/vasoconstriction) and blood pressure changes during a workout. It is not serious. If they…
  • I wish that my patients were all like you. That is some great effort. Love the fact that you didn't just try to bulk out on muscle and worked lean muscle definition.
  • Flutter kicks
  • One of the most exhaustive research papers on the subject, from the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, showed that obese people had elevated levels of troponin(cTnT). Increases in levels troponin T corresponded to increases in people's BMI in a 9,500 patient study. A direct relationship was found between…
  • Ok, so motivation, maybe not exactly how you want it, but here goes... I want you to keep this number in mind, $31,507-$1,209,089. That is what it will cost for one of my specialist associates to fix you, provided you survive an acute myocardial infarction (MI, Heart Attack) - assuming usual workup, cath lab, one major…
  • These are just the views of an former Army Master Fitness Trainer... Crossfit is kind of a weird thing. When I first heard of it - I noticed a lot of the exercises are things we used in Afghanistan and Iraq where we didn't always have weights. We did these things out of a need to keep in shape and most of us did not…
  • 37 and still a ways to go here, but I log and try to help constantly.
