Go by yourself. It would be a major letdown to finish a race, have that huge sense of accomplishment, and then have someone complaining all the way home. Schedule time for yourself and time for your wife to be by herself on the weekends. Make it a priority. My husband and I do that. Even on the most hectic of weeks, I know I will have a couple hours Sun afternoons to do whatever I'd like. It gives me something to look forward to.

I tell my kid that he doesn't get any more food until he eats what is on his plate. Eventually he will get hungry and eat it. With my kid, it is just a power play.

My gym is 2 miles away. I probably wouldn't go if it was further than that. I get an hour to workout and don't want to spend half of it traveling.

I work in a professional environment, so I try to look as put together as I can. I buy clothes every time I go down a size. I try to be cost conscious, shopping in clearance racks and ebay for secondhand suits. I hear management say all the time that appearance does matter and they do notice those things.

Does the gym offer classes? It might be a good way to try different things and see what you like. Spinning, water aerobics, TRX, etc.

I think it's great that they have started making Cadbury Eggs for sale around Halloween time. Once a year just wasn't enough. I get one once a week when I get groceries. The hospice in my town is always looking for volunteers to bake treats for the families of the patients. You could see if something like that is needed where you live if your coworkers need a break.
