  • Hmm, well, I just spent the past month intuitively eating my way almost out of my size. I think it totally can be done, though, if you stick to whole foods (lean meats, salads, etc. Probably not if you're consuming Hob Nobs, poutine, pasta with creamy sauces, alcohol, etc). And/or you're able to do regular intensive…
  • Amazing work :) I'm not the US so can't speak to the insurance issue, but I wonder whether if you saw a doc now, and developed a relationship with them through your continuing weight loss, you might have an ally down the line... I also think saving money now for any procedure/s you might choose to do would a good idea. I…
  • Carbs aren't necessarily bad, it's just that for some people, eating a lot of them without enough of the other stuff can make it hard to meet protein etc goals while staying under your daily calorie target. (Some people just get too hungry on that and wind up going over. Other people can just eat less of whatever they're…
  • Just want to say that I'm so sorry your mother, and you and your family, suffered through this disease.
  • How much do you weigh? Maybe you're just not eating enough, period. More protein, fat, fibre is more filling for me. Almost no chance I'm going to make it through if I start the day with a croissant (high cal, low value, not that filling). Eggs are more reliable (for me).
  • There's a lot of confusing information about nutrition, for sure. Here too though, people have used different approaches, so you won't get one clear answer. What they have in common is eating less than you burn and the food choices being stuff you can actually live with for a good amount of time. For *me*, it was helpful…
  • Exactly. David Bowie started out as a mime. Where would we be today if that's all we let him be?
  • Bummer I guess and it would have maybe been something to address the issue head on. I have a feeling some of her fans wouldn't be pleased no matter what she said, though. Does she owe them her body? What about her health?
  • I know that's meant to be a joke but dementia is pretty much the unfunniest thing ever.
  • Well, if it worked for you, who am I to say, you're right. Re bolded, probably not. The stuff at the time was in bags you had to boil. (Not trying to be rude, but I once tried my dog's food - she wouldn't eat it, I was curious and very very young - and I would say that the NS food I ate and my dog's food tasted about the…
  • My mom said the same thing to me :'( She's generally cheerful, but grumpy when feeling unwell, hates it when I try to do nice things. ("I'll tell you when I want a pillow, just please leave me alone...")
  • I think sometimes the ingredients revert to the default amounts in the database. E.g. I want - and input - 1 tblpsn flour, but 1 cup (the default in the db) is how it shows up once it's saved.
  • It can't be healthy, but I don't think it's good for people to feel bad about their bodies at higher weights. On the other hand, unhappiness with how I looked was a motivator for me. Not sure I'd have bothered if I really liked how I looked, even knowing it was unhealthy.
  • Yeah that was more my interpretation of what I heard.
  • Oh sorry!! I meant mental gymnastics, like rationalizations :/ Cool that you were a yoga teacher!
  • So I watched a bit more. For those who have other things to do: She feels personally betrayed and angered by someone's pursuit of health. And hearing talk about the benefits of weight loss (and of one's own weight loss journey) is a hindrance to her positivity about her body. This lady's doing gymnastics, even if she's not…
  • That is 7 minutes long, which is way too long to begin with, and I stopped at 0:35, right after "weight loss is a hindrance to body positivity". She's annoyed that someone lost 200 pounds and got themselves out of the danger zone? Ridiculous. Nasty, even, if she's b******g about it for selfish reasons, which I'm going to…
  • + telling people to take nsaids
  • +1
  • anyway i didn't mean to derail myself, sorry lol
  • Oh, @Annie_01 - thank you so much for your compassion and good wishes, you're so kind. Chronic pain can narrow one's world, certainly… definitely stressful, and it can distort a person's disposition, that's very true. I'm sorry your mother experienced this. I won't say I haven't had my moments :/ trying to accept…
  • Sorry, @Annie_01 , that's awful. I remember reading about your arm/wrist :( Yes, bones are more complicated in some cases/people than others (when surgery's required, for sure), and a year lost is a year lost :( The reason I say tendinopathy is different is that there isn't any surefire procedure to actually fix the damage…
  • Also - up until that point, my weight had been stable within a range of 130 to 145. Was always normal-weight, until that point. It was a shocking and very fast spike. After going off Paxil - PLUS - just walking more (but with no other change to diet), it settled down to a range between 178 and 155ish. My deliberate weight…
  • no probs @socajam , glad if it's helpful :)
  • You're overdoing it in a big way. Not recovering properly will hamper your progress. Post about this in the Fitness section for input. Also, your handwriting is lovely and very clear for a dude.
  • @rabbitjb - ha! No worries. It came up on a friend's FB feed last night, and that's exactly why I went :)
  • +1 also vitamin D deficiency.
  • I forgot to mention - don't try to go off it cold turkey or without medical supervision :/ Paxil can have strong discontinuation effects. You might get another drug to take to buffer those effects, while gradually reducing the dose of the paxil. & +1 that 800 calories is not enough :/
  • It does. If you break a bone, you roughly know when it'll heal, and then it does, and you're mostly good. Tendons, different story :/
  • Yeah, amazing how lumpy things feel, quick :/ It'll just take time to catch up, be patient :) (I say also to myself)
