Feeling low
I have an acute knee thing , not too bad - urgent care doc thought maybe a grade 1 or 2 sprain, mcl or maybe meniscus. Needs to be confirmed. I'm not wasting my time w another sports med and going right to my physio for diagnosis. I'm resting for the next few days until I see her though, too much pain to walk more than I…

Elliptical calories burned
I know there are 1000 threads on this topic, but can anyone clarify (again) whether the calorie formulas on machines are completely off? I've read they can be off by as much as 40% (for the elliptical), and someone here said those formulas are based on the activity of male athletes. I have also read (here, I think) that…

Resistance bands - any of these brands better than others?
These have decent reviews on Amazon Canada, but given that these are resistance bands we're talking about, I'm betting more than half of the reviewers are completely new to exercise and/or have used them for less than a month. (Some of the positive reviews come from people who are just happy they were delivered on time,…

South Beach blogs/websites/books?
Hi all :) For gut & satiety reasons, I can't do without some legumes and whole grains. I did South Beach a long time ago, and it worked very well. Lost that book, and there are a TON that have come out since, it's a bit overwhelming :/ Right now, I am not up for a lot of cooking, and although meal planning theoretically is…

Why does this protein powder taste like poison to me?
Is it the protein part (pea protein, I think) or is it the Stevia sweetener? Or something else? It mostly tastes ok except for a strange, acrid-sweet, medical but slightly putrid taste. I suspect the Stevia is the poison-like flavour and the protein bit is the putrid flavour. Ingredients: Pea Protein, Whole Flaxseed…

Protein powder rec (IBS)?
Are any of them 1) not terrible for IBS 2) low-enough cal, not too many fillers and 3) tasty (prefer vanilla if anything, prefer not to taste it at all actually)?

How do you take care of your body at work (or school)?
And how does it affect your physical fitness? If you work at an office, do you have an ergonomic computing setup? If you do repetitive tasks, can you take breaks? If you do a physical job, how do you pace yourself and recover? If you don't work, what do you do that's not exercise to take care of yourself?

Pork rib loin 2.9 lbs - how long to cook at 300F?
It's boned, obviously - I want to make this http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/oven-roasted-pulled-pork-sandwiches-recipe.html which says 6 hours for a 5-7 lb roast, just halve that, right? I want the pork to be really tender - would cooking it at an even lower temp for longer help? I don't have a crockpot,…

Single person serving sized products.
Rant. I'm fed up with buying more than I need because e.g. canned and even packaged produce products are sized for families. Yes, I try to be good about using everything up, and I don't want to be wasteful, but I can't *always* find recipes for the 1/2 a can of leftover beans that I actually want to eat. I'd like - produce…

Easiest high protein/low cal dishes with least prep/washing up
I got a neck spasm today, on top of existing hand and shoulder issues. I don't want to prep (wash, chop, etc) or wash anything I don't have to (especially not pans or pots). I've been eating out & relying on convenience food, but don't want to. (I might even have to miss garbage day this week, too, I can't lift the dang…

Easier to lose in the 80s?
http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/09/why-it-was-easier-to-be-skinny-in-the-1980s/407974/ "A study published recently in the journal Obesity Research & Clinical Practice found that it’s harder for adults today to maintain the same weight as those 20 to 30 years ago did, even at the same levels of food intake…

Spinning my wheels - what should be my goal?
Fat loss or muscle gain? I'm sick of thinking about it, so, am interested in people's thoughts. I'm working around both upper and lower injuries. Therefore, most of the exercises I can do are bodyweight. For weighted exercises, I can do the leg press, leg curls, and cable glute kickbacks. No free weights. No upper body,…

Mediterranean-style diet & satiety on fewer calories
I usually tend to eat a lot of red meat and eggs (lots and lots of eggs) bc it helps me stay full. Have been trying to replace that with more chicken, fish, beans & legumes, and nuts instead, and to replace sat fat with healthier fat (just in case that helps with cholesterol. I know the research says it might not, just…

Help me set my new calorie target?
I've been maintaining 135 lbs give or take a lb for months, with intake at 2,234 gross (2049 net, but I'm not sure about this, because I only log cardio), according to my reports here. My typical activities, using this calculator as a reference, are: 2-4 x /week: - 40 minutes of light to moderate cardio (low bpm, like 120)…

Food waste
1. How often do you take meat out to defrost, but change your dinner plans? 2. What is the food item thing you're most likely to let go to waste & throw out? 1. I do this every other time I defrost meat. (I don't usually buy a lot of meat at once, so never have to resort to freezing in the first place, but there was a…

Chana masala
http://www.chow.com/recipes/30267-chole-chana-masala Good recipe BUT to make it tasty - keep the oil and spice proportions the same, and use half the amount of chickpeas. I used 3/4 of a can - a whole can would have been fine, too. 2 cans, as indicated, would have been super bland. Also, instead of canned tomatoes, I added…
