logging leftovers for breakfast
do you log dinner leftovers eaten for breakfast in your Breakfast category or later? i eat that stuff rarely for brek & dislike having dinner-type entries show up in Breakfast later. also dislike having my Snack categories disrupted by full meals. not a huge deal by any means but curious to know what people do

Body image poll
Curious. Do you feel best about your body - at home or out in public? - in more/fewer/no clothes?

Average weight of 1/2 an average mackerel?
I've been operating under the assumption it's somewhere around 162ish grams. (Yes I need to purchase a scale.) eg 1/2 of something like this…

Cooking with wrist pain
I'm having some wrist issues (both sides) that make it hard to lift my cast iron pans. I'm ok with smaller stainless steel and enamel pans, but not (even stainless steel) pots once they're filled with liquids :/ Any ideas on how I could boil things? Stainless steel isn't that heavy, I think it's the weight of the liquid :/…

breaststroke w flutter kick
any tips on doing it so it doesn't feel weird? i can't do a frog kick right now (am stuck with flutter kick bc knee issue) but also can't do the arm motions for front crawl (bc shoulder issue) so i have to find a way to do this. (this is on sports med's advice. the breaststroke stroke is ok for my rotator cuff, but the…

Non-ugly runners for women
I want new runners that I could wear in or out of the gym, and that look decent with street clothes, any suggestions? Out of the gym, will wear on longer walks. Inside the gym, just for stationary cycling and elliptical. Summer clothes = casual t-shirt dresses, shorts, etc., Converse would probably look ok but obviously…

Singing at the gym
I'm doing extremely boring PT exercises there. I listen to music to get me through it - also to help pace myself / time movements, because I'd rush through them otherwise. But I am still so damn bored I often want to sing along. And I can, because I am not at all exerted by quad sets and bike on no resistance. How annoying…

Buying and cooking fish when you're landlocked
If you live in a non-coastal area, like I do, how do you choose, prepare, and cook "fresh" fish? Or do you stick with frozen? I haven't got a fishmonger anywhere convenient. It's just the grocery store. I'm not super impressed with either fresh or frozen near me. I do love seafood when I travel to places you can get really…

Apple bum
My old bum was rounded and fuller at the bottom. Current bum is overly defined at the upper glutes. Anyone have tips for cutting out the involvement of the upper glutes and focusing more on the glute max? I am not able to lift weights due to knee issues ( patellofemoral syndrome and patellar tendinopathy), so have been…

Hi there
Hi everyone :) I've had a PCOS diagnosis for years. My main symptoms are ovarian cysts and dysmenorrhea. I have had moderate acne (well managed by a great dermatologist) and I'm a bit fuzzy, but it's within bounds of what I'd say is normal for people with my background. Cycles occur on the month (none missed), albeit with…

Why do/did you overeat?
I'm curious. There are a bunch of reasons people eat too much. Here are some I can think of (if you can think of others, please add them): - Poor planning/lack of order (no real rhythm to meals; waited to eat until desperate and grabbed what was nearest) - Didn't really think about calories or food choices or portions -…

Semi-permanent hair dye & pools
Anyone know how long the dye will last, if I soak my hair with conditioner beforehand and use a cap? Again it's semi-permanent dye, not permanent. it's not blonde, either, i don't think there's a concern around it possibly going green :/

Reducing cholesterol via diet
Mine isn't a huge number ("6", my doc said, without any explanation). She wasn't too worried about it, but if I can get it down, that'd be great. (My parents both have to take meds to reduce it.) What's a sound dietary approach for doing that? Is anyone up on the science enough to tell me whether eggs and steak are or…

Knee pain
I have a new and different knee pain against a backdrop of other knee issues. Seeing doc on Friday to review X-ray and ultrasounds already taken. What to do until then? I know that generally rest is good, but immobilization isn't - ie whatever movement can be done without pain is a good thing to keep blood moving. With…

Estimation help for this meal
Jerk chicken, looks exactly like this. I had one thigh and one drumstick + 1 cup rice and beans I can't find anything that looks right in the database. The breakdown for 2 drumsticks, 4 thighs, 2 cups of rice, 1/2 cup coleslaw is 1,826 calories…

BPA vs. maybe-lead
So although I generally prefer tap water, I've been drinking water from plastic bottles for a year. Mainly because I live in an old building with old pipes, and maybe two years ago, lead was identified in many buildings made before 1950 in my area (and I later learned, on my block). When I took the place, there was a…

Fed up with injuries/middle age/hypermobility
How common are musculoskeletal issues among recreationally active people over 30? Does everyone who's slightly more than sedentary have something going on? I'm hypermobile, and ending my 30s, so have OA in a few joints and am constantly experiencing minor (and a few major) soft tissue injuries and/or pain. I don't know how…

Hip pain while walking
Yesterday, I did bodyweight resistance and a bit of light weights, and stationary cycling. Today, I have pain in my right hip :( It's kind of stingy right in the middle of the joint when I use it (walk). Why would this be? That is the one joint I haven't had problems with so far :( I just did box squats (with light…

Easy lunch ideas for a single person?
Here's what I'm like: - Hate frozen food and freezing food and batch cooking especially. I've tried it, hate it for texture and taste reasons. Prefer food made fresh for one meal. I'm not even that great with defrosting meats that I've bought (wind up doing something else and letting it go bad, as happened with a lovely…
