Semi-permanent hair dye & pools

Anyone know how long the dye will last, if I soak my hair with conditioner beforehand and use a cap? Again it's semi-permanent dye, not permanent.
it's not blonde, either, i don't think there's a concern around it possibly going green

No idea on lasting time on semi-permanent color but you've got the general idea down for protecting it. Soak in regular water first, then coat in oil (like argan, coconut, etc.), then immediately after your swim, rinse out and condition again.0

Woot! Glad I'm on the right track Thanks
(Had it done by a pro, so am loathe to see the money go down the pool drain, know what i mean)0 -
i'm thinking the chlorine removal / chelating shampoos might destroy it, though. damn should have asked (although i am pretty sure this is just a known thing)0

I've been using Ultra Swim on my perpetually dyed hair for over a year with no adverse affects, so I think you're probably ok!0

I notice my colour fades quicker if I swim regularly (the dye on mine is permanent though), but then I am lazy and don't follow the steps you listed above to protect it. Probably depends as well on the condition of your hair to start with, how porous it is etc. I would expect the chlorine to have some effect, but at the end of the day it will fade with washes and time anyway.0

You could wear a swim cap. I don't like them, but people do use them successfully!
Green hair takes a long time to develop and I've only seen it on women with whiteish-blond hair. Pool Tacky Hair - fried out and gunky - happens faster, but a good swim shampoo will help a lot.0 -
I wet my hair in the shower, use a heavy conditioner and a swim cap. I rinse my hair and condition it after my swim. My hair dresser said the most important part is wetting it first before going in the pool. The hair absorbs the clean water not the water with chlorine.0
