I have a new and different knee pain against a backdrop of other knee issues. Seeing doc on Friday to review X-ray and ultrasounds already taken. What to do until then?

I know that generally rest is good, but immobilization isn't - ie whatever movement can be done without pain is a good thing to keep blood moving. With this one, I'm not sure because:

- walking and going down stairs causes pain. So does standing, to a lesser degree
- it doesn't hurt TONS, maybe 6.5-7/10 at the worst of it, but it's the kind of pain that makes you make sounds when it comes on. (Like it'll come and you have to hum through it.) It's variable
- only resting does not hurt at all
- knee feels unstable and loose and just wrong. this sensation is constant. (it also leads me to feel slightly nauseous)
- pain is located on the medial side (left knee)

I went for a little walk just to test things out, very uncomfortable and I had to go slow. Not sure why I did that, when walking around my apartment doesn't feel great.

So what do I do about this until Friday?

This one started intermittently during a workout session some weeks ago (hard to say what caused what, i probably did bodyweight stuff, cycling, maybe very light leg presses and ham curls (e.g .60-80 lbs, 3x12-15). It used to only hurt during exercise, now it's all the time (as of last week) and has been hurting more intensely as of a few days.

(The other knee issues are patellofemoral syndrome, which I actually still do not fully understand, and osteoarthritis. Also quad tendinopathy on the left side.)

    those ones hurt like this
    - just above left quad, during exertion / bending (tendinopathy)
    - itchy feeling under both kneecaps, especially when going down stairs (no idea what's causing what)
    - achey feeling above both kneecaps, randomly (??)

also have crepitus, but i've had that all my life. but more on the left side over the past few years.

Dude, just rest it. If that's what doesn't hurt, that's what you do. People have knee casts, wrist casts, full-body casts for weeks and months and do just fine. You're not going to lose the ability to walk forever in three days lying on the couch. :) Load up Netflix or Hulu, get someone to wait on you, and enjoy not humming to break the pain.

Thank you :) That's just what I want to do :)

It's just that I imagined my physio's voice telling me not to lose general function (which happened another time - I rested too long and everything went a bit wonky, from that and also compensation). But yeah, a few days won't make that happen

Bumping because I need to be reminded not to work out. Want to try to cycle with no resistance. Or, that might be ok right? If I stopped if it hurt?
