Right, it's behavioural - though it does involve physical processes in the brain. But does it have to be an initially physical addiction to be dysfunctional? I think most would say no.
-
So is gambling a real addiction or not?
-
Agree. I'm not entirely sure what or who responses like #2 are for, really. Whether the substance or experience prompting addictive behaviour itself has inherently addictive properties that are exactly comparable to amphetamine or alcohol** is irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. Dopamine chasing is real enough to count…

This one's always spot on for me. Subtract 10-20% from the number you get, and don't add exercise calories in, since you'll already have included them. (TDEE method) http://www.health-calc.com/diet/energy-expenditure-advanced

That's quite an aggressive rate of loss, if you had 40 to lose in total - about 2.5 lbs a week. Why can't you drop it to 1/2 or 1 lb a week? It would be easier.

More thoughts that might help. I don't have sources to hand, this is just to start you off in your reading or whatever. - If you intend to be pregnant, you'll want folic acid (B9) to prevent neural tube defects in the fetus. B vitamins in general help with nervous system function & production of red blood cells. - Lots of…

How does this help OP decide what's healthy and nutritious? What is she looking for in the labels? She asked about nutrition, not just weight loss.

- The suggested portions go the way the plate is divided up, by colour. They're not exact. Just split up your plate that way, is the idea. Visual estimates often make things easier for people. - I agree with you, I like bacon and cheese and butter, and I have that. But processed / cured meat like bacon, deli meats, cold…

"Moderation" - for me, it means eating close to how Harvard wants me to 80% of the time, and having McD's or beer or whatever else 20% of the time. (I do not avoid cheese, bacon, or cold cuts, though. But I try to minimize those. I also have a good amount of lower-fat dairy, like 0% greek yogurt or 1% cottage cheese,…

I think this isn't too bad http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/healthy-eating-plate/

Wear slightly loose pants or joggers and point the pelvis *away from* other people. Or, do them in a room off the main gym.

I usually have either 1-1.5 cups of steamed or boiled green veg that has some fiber in it (asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts - topped with a bit of lemon juice) or a green leafy salad (spinach usually - nice with sliced red onion and 1/2 an avocado, could put some cashews in there too if you want). If I have the salad,…

Ok, thanks. For reference, I am a 39 year old woman, 5'7, 139 lbs. People differ, but I personally maintain on 1800-2200 (no exercise), and a meal under 500, that doesn't have what I think is a reasonable amount of protein, fat, and fiber in it, will make me hangry. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that if I were a 6'1…

Sandwiches are perfect for that situation, though. So portable. If you don't like "lunch meat", you can make roast beef or something on a Sunday and slice it up, freeze some. Next Sunday, roast chicken, same thing. Etc for turkey, pork loin, etc.

- What are your stats? - What are you eating? - What activities are you doing?
-
That's great, if you are in fact able to listen to your body and not overdo it like in say a Zumba class. Not judging - I've pushed myself further than I should have, too - it's really hard to know what'll do it in different situations, and you learn from everything, right? I wasn't talking about "feeling sorry for…

It's not the older ladies, it's the able-bodied teenaged dudes I feel like giving the side-eye.
-
Yeah, that's all you can do, really. It's a shared space, people have to find a way to get along. There's one lady at a particular hour, at a particular pool near me who reeks of perfume (it even overwhelms the chlorine smell. It's one of those heavy 80s perfumes, like Opium or something) and a guy who smells like…
-
Well it depends on the pool, and the hours, and the rules. Some places have leisure and lap swim at the same time, just split up by lanes. Some have a lane allocated to very slow remedial swimmers & rehabbers. Some have a special hour dedicated to that. Maybe this lady is doing laps but very slowly.
-
If you think she's going to complain again - are the lanes really close together? Can you take the lane one over from the slow lane? I think between that and maybe this lady hearing from a staff member (i.e. neutral 3rd party) that it's good to share, etc., you should be good to go. I am a slow swimmer right now and tbh it…

It's crazy to me that you think a person whose knee swells up at unpredictable times, has a home TENS machine (!), and is certainly having surgery at some point in the nearish future should be on a par with (presumably) fully able-bodied people. You're not like them, you've got these things you have to live with. It is…

It is an adjustment, but it's not that hard, if you a) like and are satisfied by the food you're eating and b) like the activities you're doing. Your body levels off, between the given inputs (food) and outputs (exercise). And the things you're learning now will stick with you, and will become habitual. And that's going to…

ikeATtheGYM, the molecules in moisturizing lotions are too big to get into the dermis. And the dermis and deeper layer are where the action happens. The molecules can sort of, temporarily, make the top of the epidermis look a little more lubricated. That's a cosmetic effect that goes away when you wash off the product. It…

I got some great suggestions here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10186292/whats-a-great-veggie-main-for-a-hot-day This is delicious, I make it often (for a veggie main) - black bean chili http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/236609/black-bean-chilli Also love this - chana masala (chickpeas)…

BOOM but I think that poster isn't arguing that the law exists or doesn't; they just don't believe a chain like Subway would break it

Also, maybe, don't let your blood sugar get too low

Every single MFP member - hopefully all 18+ - has had to "figure out how to feed themselves" in new ways, and helping with that is why the community exists...

+1. Just because some people don't have breaks because they're not protected by laws doesn't mean it's a good idea or something to put up with, if you can avoid it (first responders obviously not in that category). It's reasonable for your employer to ask that you be available during busy times, but if you are not getting…
