  • I started end of June or early July - about to do w6d3 today! :)
  • I'm in! I don't think I can do 25, especially because I got back on the wagon on the 8th, but I'm curious to see how far I can get. :)
  • 212 and 150! Would love to meet new friends. <3
  • My girl will be 18 months old in a couple weeks. She keeps me busy enough - I'm in awe that you have three older kids as well. Super mama! If you want to be friends, hit me up! I'm 37F and have about 60 lb to lose.
  • Hello! I have Crohn's disease, inflammatory arthritis secondary to Crohn's, and Interstitial Cystitis. I'm very lucky to be in remission for most of that, but I'm still facing a ton of challenges when it comes to both diet and exercise, and I'd love to have more spoonie friends.
  • I use Organic Brown Rice protein powder. It tastes a bit nasty (like envelope glue), but I can't take any dairy, hemp, legumes or soy, so it's kind of my only option, haha. I recommend it if you have stupid dietary restrictions like I do -- though be sure to mix it with a banana or something like that to improve the…
  • Having been through major depressive disorder (among other mental illnesses) from 1999-2001, I can vouch for the fact that if a person is truly depressed, exercise ain't gonna happen, and it is not just a matter of "sucking it up". It may be a psychological disorder, but it has a very real physical impact, as do the meds.…
  • This earlier post was me...and I just had my 2013 one. The Ulcerative Colitis has spread, but no cancer (always a good thing). Now if I can just get this damned UC back into remission like it was when I made the original post...
  • I have no problems with running unless I'm in a horrible deadly flare, thankfully! When I'm flaring, I switch to walking. Martial arts are about the same. When my symptoms are low or I'm in a mild flare, high impact stuff helps me -- quick endorphine release! Chlorine definitely aggravates me, so I started using vaseline…
  • Part of it is going to depend on what you want to juice. If you want the ability to do wheatgrass/kale/spinach very easily, for example, then you'll want a masticating juicer, but those can be VERY expensive. There's a lot of info out there if you type in "which juicer should I buy?" in Google -- people have been compiling…

  • I just got a juicer on the weekend (Breville Juice Fountain), and I love it! My diet was super veggie-heavy pre-UC, so it feels good to be able to consume huge amounts of veggies without aggravating my symptoms. :) I don't use it as my only form of sustenance, but it makes my limited diet feel much more rounded. I had…

  • Dude, that's AMAZING. Great work!
  • Photos compress 3 dimensions into 2, and unless the photographer is skilled and the lighting conditions are good, depth doesn't get captured very well -- that's why they say the camera adds 10 lb. It's also why movie stars pose in very specific ways/angles to try to accentuate the narrower planes of their bodies. The…
  • I think it depends where you are and what you’re eating. Fast food restaurants aren’t actually all that cheap around where I live unless you order off the value menu, and then you get tiny things so unsatisfying that you end up consuming way more calories than you need anyway. (So, maybe the calories-to-cost ratio is…
  • I have to juice my fruits/veggies due to a medical condition (when it flares up, anyway), and I'm not sure why someone would actively choose to do a juice fast. It's so much more filling and satisfying to actually EAT the vegetables. And if I'm not mistaken, juicing removes the fibre. Fibre is good. Plus, juicing is not…
  • I came to this topic because I have awful joint aches right now. This morning, I could barely move one of my toes! It seems to mostly settle in my hands, hips, knees and feet. Blughhh. I'm on Salofalk right now, so I was advised not to take other painkillers. Brutal!!
  • Call me a perv, but I like it. I'm a butt/legs kinda gal.
  • At 4'11", a BMI of 25 would be about 124 lb for you, so 130 seems a reasonable goal! You may find you will "fine tune" your goal once you get very close to your goal weight, anyway. Some people find they want to maintain a bit higher, some a bit lower.
  • I will. I mean, what?
  • My first 5K (not in a race setting, but trying for a PR) was about 34 min. After about a 14 months of running, I did 26:46 as the second half of a 10K, which is a new 5K PR!
  • Not sure what you define as long (my hair is tailbone length, so my definition is a bit skewed :P), but if it's long enough, I find that a bun with a hair stick holds, and because the hair stick pins it to my head, I don't get a headache. Sometimes it slips out, but usually it holds pretty well. For me, it has to be a hair…
  • I'm not sure I trust that link. It gave me a % body fat that was too high by about 5-6%..so, as a test, I left my weight the same and input 20" waist, 20" hips, 4" wrist and 4" forearm, and it put me at 25% body fat!
  • Grr, those IT bands can be a real pain. Is it an option for you to visit a physiotherapist or sports doc for a consult? I had some mild IT band issues and continued stretching, rolling, etc. and they ended up getting worse and worse, until I ended up unable to run. On my first visit with a physio, he tailored exercises to…

  • I use a small, streamlined 1.5L camelbak because I have medical issues with my whole stomach/gut area, so I need to keep my hydration and electrolytes very carefully balanced, and waist bands make runs a living hell (learned this the hard way...ugh). If I’m going for longer than 1.5h, I’ll use my favourite electrolyte…
  • 70.5 miles -- I was recovering post-half at the beginning of the month, plus I skipped a long run to try to rest my shins, which were feeling a bit "splinty." (Happy to say that the sacrifice was worth it, because they're feeling great since that little break!)
  • I don't like real bacon. Turkey bacon is okay.
  • I just had a bit of a struggle with this this morning. I was feeling like I had gained a bunch of weight, and when my clothes were fitting the same as they always have during maintenance, I had myself convinced that they must have stretched out. Then I stepped on the scale, and the same old number was right there waiting…
  • Don't let anyone tell you that you can't lose weight with swimming. I'm an ex-competitive swimmer, and I was always, without exception, 10-15 lb lighter in the main competition season (multiple workouts a day) than the off season (a few times a week), and when I quit, my weight started to skyrocket. That being said, just…

  • I am a daydreamer, through and through, so la la land is my second home. Love it there! :drinker:
  • She is fat. She is also gorgeous. The two aren't mutually exclusive, at least in my opinion.
