OP is best post ever. It should be required reading before posting anything and a response to most of the threads in the nutrition section. It really is that simple.

I agree. People overcomplicate it WAY too much.

Thermodynamics does apply to the human body. Physical chemistry of open systems.

Same here.

I had lost 100 lbs over 15 years ago (and kept most of it off). I saw a motivational poster that is pretty much true> " It takes about 30 days for you to notice it. It takes about 60 days for your closest friends to notice it. It takes about 90 days for everyone else to notice it. " For me, the face is what I noticed…

Oh yeah, I can see it (and I'm a guy and we aren't supposed to notice these things ;). Great progress. Keep it up.

There is no advantage of a low carb diet over any other diet, but some people prefer it and I don't think it is "bad" just another way of doing it. Keep in mind there is no low carb/keto hocus pocus, the First Law Thermodynamics still applies and you still have to track kcal. If it works for you and you enjoy it, go for.…

Welcome. I'm new to the this group, but not new to MFP. Personally ,my motivation comes from the mirror and the clothes I wear. To get started or when I don't feel like working out I view this thread: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=108359701 It has more men than women, but it is inspirational nonetheless.…

Droid Razr Maxx. Love it. Sorry, don't do Apple anything. I am more of a Linux guy.

I've been to circuit parties back in the late '90s and early 2000s (including Red in Columbus, used to live there). Everyone is fit, I mean everyone. You don't have to be huge muscle wise, but if you are fit you should feel fine. To me, it was intimidating at first, but my mantra through all my clubbing/partying days was…

^^This. It would take me an hour, that I don't have, to correct all that and it reminds me why I rarely post here.

Thanks, but I actually have to use my mind. Good luck w/that. BTW - emaciated isn't hot.

Catecholamines trump anything in regards to metabolism. Yes, insulin is important, but the bulk of metabolism depends on the phosphorlyation state of a myriad of enzymes which is triggered by an energy insufficient state. If you aren't a diabetic, want to keep it simple, then don't worry about carbs. Keep it simple,…

Thanks brah.

I take it it wasn't an ACS certified program or you haven't completed your degree yet. This is sad because you should know better. Weight loss depends on calories in versus calories out as no matter can be created nor destroyed. Weight loss depends on energy insufficiency, which builds up AMP, ADP, etc. (higher [ADP]/[ATP]…

That's what I said, it is the deficit that matters. I can't take the brain fog of low carb, nor do I like the fatigue, but if it works for you go for it.
-
I eat right before I go to bed as long as I am in a calorie deficit. Sleep like a baby.
-
As long as it works for you, great I say. I lift heavy 4 times per week and jog, and need my carbs. I feel full as long as I get my protein and fats; we are all different and the important thing is you still maintain a calorie deficit. My problem comes is when the carbophobes preach that it is somehow superior or the only…

I am a Biochemist, I do this for a living. You are more than welcome to believe in any alarmism you choose (just don't try to make it a law); however, you are not qualified to peer-review an article. Here was my previous response: Oh noooezzz two amino acids bonded together are going to kill us. There is no way the excess…

This. Conservation of Energy: No matter can be created nor destroyed. Always get lulz from the carbophobes and their insulin fairy who completely ignore the body's state of energy insufficiency (AMP, ADP, etc) where the appropriate enzymes are phosphorylated, specifically ACP, which curtails lipid biosynthesis.…

This. I see why we agree, bb.com has much better nutritional information than this site.
-
Same here. I always laugh at alarmists and media based hysteria. Some of us have the common sense and education to know better.
-
Oh noooezzz two amino acids bonded together are going to kill us. There is no way the excess amino acids will go into the amino acid degradation pathway like every other amino acid.. And that MeOH, it probably has magic to bypass alcohol dehydrogenase and poison us. Yes, we are going to die. /sarcasm
-
I always go over it. Not intentionally, but I eat fruits which contain sugar. As long as I hit my macros and I am in a calorie deficit, I really don't care.
-
^^^This.

Yes, it is all about calories in versus calories out. If you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight - period. However, I prefer to keep my protein at 150-180 g per day and fill in the rest with carbs and fat. Keep it simple. There is no low carb or low fat magic.
-
Carbohydrates hold water; hence, carboHYDRATES and will make you weight more. Losing weight is simply calories in versus calories out. There is no benefit to doing low carb over a typical low calories diet. These fad, low fat or low carb diets have made America the fattest nation on earth. Keep it simple.
