  • I think most people put it in as circuit training. I believe most people burn between 150 and 200 calories depending on their current weight, etc.
  • Great news! Our family cut WAY back on meat over the last two years and we've noticed a difference not only in our health but our food bill too.
  • I think it depends on your overall health (i.e. if you are diabetic you might need to watch this more closely) but I read an article by Joy Bauer recently that said you shouldn't worry about sugars in fruit and milk and that you should be more concerned with added sugar. Here's the article if you want to check it out.…
  • i would suggest putting your son in the stroller and going for a quick walk when you're feeling really tired. Or take a power nap when he naps. Both will leave you feeling better afterwards.

  • I started the 30 Day Shred last month and am on Level 2. I do it every day in addition to other workouts. On M,W,F I do a weight training workout in the morning so I've been only using 2 pound weights on the Shred workouts, to avoid injury. It's still killer. The other days of the week, I do cardio. Because the Shred…
  • Thanks, great suggestions!
  • Fresh fruit & veggies and eggs are all really low in calories. I also get Fiberful Bars from Trader Joe's. They're only 60 calories and have 6 grams of fiber.
  • A high fiber, low sugar granola bar and a banana with peanut butter would be good. Also, you could make up a bunch of scrambled eggs over the weekend and then stuff half of a whole wheat pita with some of the eggs. Both are super quick.
  • I know you said you don't like to work out in front of other people but what about with just one workout buddy? My neighbor and I work out together every morning using Jillian Michaels or Jackie Warner DVDs and it's been great. Because we have plans to do it everyday, it makes us more accountable so that we don't let each…
  • I substitute a portion of the flour for whole wheat. I usually use 60% white flour, 40% whole wheat flour and then I add 1/4 cup or 1/3 cup toasted oat bran for extra fiber. I also do that for pancakes and waffles. I've heard you can add an extra banana or apple sauce to replace some of the sugar, but you may want to…
  • I started baking scrambled eggs in a muffin pan so I have cooked eggs ready to grab and go during the week. I beat 12 eggs with whatever ingredients I want and then evenly divide the mixture in each muffin cup. You could do something similar and eat it with a whole wheat English muffin or toast for an easy breakfast. If…
  • Yes, every day but in really small quantities and I try to eat only dark chocolate items.
  • I agree with eates. I usually count a portion of the day and then log it at 2.0.
  • I would say it's definitely too low, especially for someone of your height. I'm 5' 7" and when I was about to get married (over 10 years ago) I was keeping my calories between 1000 and 1200 and exercising on top of that, so my net was most likely under or at 1000 on most days. I didn't really lose very much before the…
  • The 30 Day Shred video and Xtreme Time Saver Training with Jackie are two of my favorites. Being a busy mom I love that they are hard cord shorter workouts (27 minutes and 33 minutes). There's also a lot of great videos on in demand. I second the jogging trampoline but be warned, if your kids see you doing it, they're…
  • I love walking, it's one of my favorite exercises but I would also suggest adding in some strength training videos now, instead of waiting until you've lost a little weight. Building muscle will help you lose weight faster. If you're fearful that the workouts will be too hard, you can start with some of the 10 minute…
  • I think any time you quit all of something for good, it's harder to maintain and keep up with it. Personally, I don't want to give up all of the bad for you stuff for the rest of my life. I'd rather enjoy that stuff in moderation and keep myself accountable for it when I do.
  • I have either a banana with 1tsp of organic peanut butter or a mini whole wheat banana muffin with 1tsp of peanut butter before my workout. If I'm doing something like a 5K then I'll have a cliff bar before.
  • I'm 5'7" too. My goal is to weigh between 125 and 130. 140 is considered a healthy weight for that height but I also feel a little chubby at that weight.
  • Not too different from tortillas but baked pita bread is good with it too.
  • I like a high fiber mini banana muffin and 1 tsp of organic peanut butter. I also like to mix peanuts or almonds with a few dark chocolate covered raisins.
  • A while back I remember reading an article that said if you had to choose between sleep and exercise you should always choose sleep. I know it makes a big difference for me and I try really hard to get between 7 and 8 hours a night. It doesn't always work out though with kids who have a habit of waking me with illnesses,…
  • I'm a Freelance Web Designer.
  • Definitely make sure you get a good workout in beforehand. Even when sharing unhealthy food or trying to eat the healthier options in a restaurant, it can be hard to manage calories. And drinks really pile on the calories. If you get a good workout in earlier in the day, that will give you a little more wiggle room. Also…

  • Thanks so much everyone! I guess those 1 and 2 pound weights I bought for my kids will come in handy.
  • Congrats to you! I'm a mom of two and trying to lose about 15 more pounds. Your success is a great inspiration!
  • I often do a 30 - 45 minute workout in the morning and then 20 - 30 minutes in the afternoon. If you get bored with elliptical, fitness magazine often has some great 30 minute treadmill interval workouts in their magazine. Back when I worked in the corporate world (I'm a freelancer now) I used to do them on my lunch break.…
  • Considering it takes 9 months to put on baby weight, I've always heard you should give yourself 9 - 12 months to lose it. I think it really varies by each woman and it also has a lot to do with your child's temperament. For instance if you have a child who doesn't sleep through the night for two years and you don't have a…
  • Do you take Vitamin D? I've heard that if you are deficient in Vitamin D it can lead to more tiredness. I've also heard that B12 can help. Are you able to take a power nap or go for a quick walk around the block when you get sleepy? I find that it's worth it to take a quick nap instead of trying to artificially wake up.
  • I go to the farmer's market on Saturdays and load up on fruit, veggies and hummus. Then I come home and prep berries, carrots and broccoli for the week, so I can grab them quickly at meal times. I also like to try and cook a healthy version of homemade (from scratch) waffles or pancakes on the week-ends and then eat them…
