  • Yay Deb! So happy for you! Your plan is a great idea, I was thinking of doing the same thing myself. I am still at 4.0mph, but the fact is that I am at least jogging for 30 minutes straight. It is amazing! I am on week 9, but all that involves is 3 30-minute runs, so I am calling myself finished with the program and ready…
  • I would definitely give this a second look Stef. Actually, reading through it, I think this may be my problem! One thing I have considered is trying gluten-free for a couple weeks to see what my body thinks of it. I have a really hard time giving up foods, which I know is a problem, but I know lots of us struggle with it.…
  • Just finished week 6! Wow! Ran 25 minutes straight (well, jogged) and can't believe it. I am ready for a relaxing weekend. The next 3 weeks for me are long runs, so I need to rest up for Monday! FYI, I am only jogging at 4mph until I get used to running for a long time with no walking in between. Before the 25 minute run,…
  • I'm with you. I started C25K 6 weeks ago and haven't lost a pound. I started adding about 30 minutes of weight lifting to that about 3 weeks ago. Nothing. I think I am tightening up though, and maybe I have lost a couple inches. Have you measured yourself? Are your clothes fitting better? This sounds cliche, but it could…
  • I feel ya Deb. I live in LA so there's no way I am running outside during this summer heat/humidity! I really think you should make sure you're not dreading it or feeling like you're gonna die. Even if you're taking tiny steps and jogging really slowly. The cooler air helps, but I totally know how it is with the humidity.…
  • Thanks!! It is good to hear that from someone who's already done it. I am excited about the 2 8-minute runs I have tomorrow. I'll probably do one 8-minute and one 9-minute, just to help me prepare. I am just happy I am doing this and feel good!!
  • Finished W5D1 today! I can't believe it. I made it through all 3 of the 5 minute runs. I am still keeping a moderate pace (4.5mph) so that I don't burn out or wear out. I was definitely ready to walk by the end though! I added a minute onto the last 5 minute run. Just trying to prepare myself because Wednesday I have 2…
  • YAY! Finished week 4 today! I added an extra minute onto the last run of the workout. Sometimes when I am on my way to the fitness center I'm thinking, I don't have lots of energy today, but I'm still excited about this workout. Then, once I get started, I know I have the energy. Next week... Monday - 3 5 minute runs…
  • I'm with ya Deb! We are in the exact same spot in the program, although yours may be slightly different because I am doing the treadmill version. I haven't even looked to compare, but here's what it has me doing this week: 5 minute warm-up 3 minute run 90 second walk 5 minute run 3 minute walk 3 minute run 90 second walk 5…
  • Did week 4 day 1 today! I'm glad to see that each week has its own mini group of support. The 2nd 5-minute run was definitely more challenging, and I didn't add any extra time on the end of it like I did the first 3 weeks, but I made it. I hope to make the 2nd 5-minute run a 5.5 minute run on Wednesday, and I hope to make…
  • I just want to say that everyone here is doing a great job. For those of you who are questioning your ability to complete this program, don't. It doesn't matter if you have 5 pounds to lose or 105 pounds to lose. You started this seemingly impossible task because you believed in yourself, and you believed you could do it.…
  • Just finished week 3 day 1! My left knee is bothering me a little so I made sure not to overdo it and I am definitely resting as recommended tomorrow. I noticed that I am actually jogging the same amount of time this week as I did last week. The difference is two of the running blocks are combined into one, so I'm jogging…
  • Congrats on your weight loss so far! Definitely take it slow. I find that with the extra weight I am carrying, I just need to jog a little slower. You're still doing your body good by doing this program and being active, even if you take it easier than you think you should. You're on the right track, take all the time you…
  • It might be exhilarating for you to run in the rain! Just keep an eye on the weather and try to head out when it's not raining. I wish it would rain more here. :-( As for your ankle, maybe schedule an appointment with your doc to make sure running is ok. Try wearing some special support socks to give your ankle more…
  • It is frustrating how there are tons of options for certain things. But... it does have that bar code scanner which can scan even store brands and foods you wouldn't think would be in the database. I feel like the scanner is more accurate, and it's quick too, I think quicker than typing in the food... that is, if your food…
  • I know these have sorta been repeated, but they're important! Take your time! You don't have to run fast! I don't even think you have to run, and I am actually jogging really. I am not even running 5mph yet but I am very slowly working my way up! REST! If the program says rest, it's for a reason. Stop being scared of the…
  • Hey all! Another quick tip: When I am doing the last running segment of each workout, I add a little time to it. Just helps me to prepare for the next workout and the next week. Right now I am just adding 30 seconds to the last running segment. It helps!
  • Just finished day 3 of week 2 and I feel like a rock star! A helpful tip is to just not feel like you have to be running fast. I think right now it's about the endurance, and being able to actually make it. Speed comes later. I am really taking it slow, with my fastest "run" time being 4.8mph today. I may do 4 days this…
  • Hey there Nikki, I have about 40lbs to lose. I do think carrying extra weight has something to do with it. I would just recommend taking it slow and going at your own pace. I had to learn that I'm not going to look like a gazelle (or my husband) when I run, and for the most part I am just jogging, but I still break a good…
  • Week 2 isn't bad at all. You're working up to it. I am doing the treadmill version which I think might give you more walking time vs. running. It's 1.5 minutes running then 2 minutes walking. I think it's great!
  • Deb I wouldn't do the elliptical on your off days. I would do something like yoga, pilates, or even go for a swim if you have access to a pool. Something low impact so your knees can have a break!
  • Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA! Sister base to Minot AFB in ND, I saw someone here is there! We are staying in Shreveport for now but have many friends who are PCS'ing there in October-ish.
  • My husband is in the Air Force!
  • Hello! Can't believe I am just now finding this group! I have been married to a B-52 navigator (Air Force) for 6 months now!
  • I too have asthma. A tip my doctor told me was to use your rescue inhaler about 15-30 minutes before you go exercise, even if you are not feeling symptoms. Actually, since I've started working out more regularly my rescue inhaler has been collecting dust in my purse. I also take Singulair daily and that has helped…
  • They do have a high protein formula, so I may check that out when I run out of what I currently have. I am just trying it for a couple weeks to see if I see any results. Nothing has been seeming to work for me lately.
  • I am so glad I found this forum on MFP, which I love! I just started day 1 of Slim Fast today. I have been getting so frustrated because it seems like I have tried lots of things and nothing is working. I lost about 30lbs in a year, losing the last 10 right before my wedding. However, right after my wedding I gained about…
  • I have been getting frustrated with the online website. It seems like a lot of the features don't work. I have had such a hard time with that site. I just finished the 3 week cardio kickstart. I did it on easy, just because I didn't know what the levels were like, and I figured I could always add more activity if I felt it…
  • Hey everyone! We're getting quiet here! I had a great weekend, did the wedding portraits, dress zipped up without any problem! I want to lose 3-5 more before the wedding, but that's all I can afford and not have to have the dress taken in. Alterations at this point would be a pain. I just need to tone up a bit too. The…
