  • I'm working on just upping my protein at the moment to around 100g a day. not focused to much on when I eat what. Weights wise, I'm weak! I started last Monday on 20lbs per exercise, up to 30lb for Wednesday(60 for deadlifts) and Friday. Sticking with 30 for squats tomorrow, same for OHP and working on form. Will try 65…
  • Had my 3rd session tonight. Found the squats tough, I'll be staying on 30 for the next session at least, working on form at the moment too. My quads are in bits! Press and Row seemed fine, so will try 40lb next time. W1/S1 Squat: 30lb Bench: 30lb Row 30lb

  • Depends where you live. It would not be at all appropriate here in Thailand, in other countries I'm sure it's not an issue. Respect where you are and the norms of that society and it should be all good.

  • I'd like to join in to keep track. You ladies are where I want to be, in about a year it feels like! I start this week and have done 2 sessions so far. Wasn't sure about the weights so starting low! W1/S1 -Squat: 20 lbs -Bench: 20lbs. - Row: 20 lbs Weight was too light so need to up the bench and rows tomorrow. Will try…

  • Returned to the gym yesterday and tried the B workout. Not sure why but worked much better. Didn't feel like falling over during squats. I'm not sure what I did differently. I just tried focusing on the tips I'd read on form and it seemed to work better. I upped it to the 30lb barbell for squats, same for OHP (which was…

  • I'll try it again in the gym today, and if the same thing is happening, I'll ask my boyfriend to take a pic or video to see what it is. Thanks.
  • Yeah, I made a mistake in my post. It was a 20lb barbell I was using. Gonna try the 30lb one today. Thanks for all the advice. Will work on my form with bodyweight ones first and move on. Will also try the goblet squats if I'm struggling. Don't really have the trainer option, well I do but they don't speak english! Will…
  • Thanks a million for all the advice. Sorry, I made a mistake in the original post. it was a 20lb BARBELL I ended up using. Will definitely try out all the squat tips today. Will try to up it to the 30lb barbell and see how I go. Will work on bodyweight squats and trying to get the form right first. Pull the ground apart…

  • I'll try this tomorrow, thanks.
  • This thread is hilarious. Some people eh... Anyway. I'm Irish, and currently living in Thailand. Been here for nearly 2 years. Planning on moving on somewhere new soon though. I'm a teacher so easy to travel the world working, and that's the plan. I got this job online before arriving and it's all been amazing.
  • I'm just using the MFP settings, set at .5lb a week loss as I'm still trying to lose a bit. I also eat back the exercise calories. I'm not actually losing .5lbs a week so I think I do eat more than the calories listed. I'm looking at moving towards maintenance which would bring me to 1770 a day (+ exercise calories).…
  • I dislike kittens. I'm good with aiming to get toned :)
  • Well, I get looks from people for being the farang (white person) in the gym, so they'll certainly notice! Thai women certainly don't use heavy weights often so I think there'l be confusion anyway! I read through the tips that are stickied so gonna look at those videos. Thanks for the tips Yeah, set on sedentary. I sit…
  • I try to track weekly rather than daily, which solves the problem of obsessing over daily totals. So if I go over by 200 today, I won't eat back all my exercise calories tomorrow. over the week I aim to have eaten my aim + my exercise calories, but not necessarily on the day I worked out.
  • Week 1 goal: 240mins Tuesday: 60 mins football training, 30 mins walking. Total: 90mins. Time remaining: 150mins
  • Thanks for the advice. As for where I am. I'm happy enough with my weight, but could do with reducing bodyfat percentage, so I'm still eating at a small deficit (.5 pounds a week technically but in reality I don't stick to that and go over a bit). What I'm looking for is more definition, when the bodyfat is low enough to…
  • Ok, so I've been putting off proper strength training for a while now, a few excuses, gym is intimidating, the guys don't speak english so can't help and I don't feel like I know what I'm doing. But, they're really just excuses I guess. Gonna try to convince a friend to come and give it a go together. A few questions…
  • Getting married in July, my aim is to look hot! Not sure how that will happen though :D I'd say about 5 lbs loss but loads of toning, musclebuilding on top of that I think
  • I'm in, haven't done this before so will start slow! Hopefully I can pass my goal. Wedding coming quickly! Week # 1 -- April 30th -- Goal 240 minutes: Mon: Tue: Wed: Thur: Fri: Sat: Sun: Total / min left: 0 / ???
  • Your experiences are not universal. I don't think I'm a food addict. In the past I was more active and didn't gain weight. I got older, got less active and in the space of a year or two I put on weight (about 25lbs). I realised this eventually, so I changed things. Got more active, and started counting calories. I'm now…
  • 'There actually is research that shows that people on a balanced vegan diet are as a group generally both skinnier and healthier than the typical person who eats meat as a part of the standard american diet. ' Correlation vs causation. While excess red meat can lead to poorer health there's no direct evidence that eating…
  • I met my fiance when I was 12, so looks really didn't come into it. He was my best friend for years before we got together. He wasn't what I would have considered my 'type' in terms of looks at the time (as a 17year old) but I was initially attracted to him based on mostly other things, he was an amazing person. Now, I…
  • If it's strangers you're worried about, then think you're probably projecting your own insecurities onto them e.g. you're worried they'll guess and treat you differently when in fact they're completely oblivious. it's completely understandable given the stigma that still surrounds it for some people, but I really don't…
  • I wouldn't decide who I date on looks alone. Attraction is made up or much more than that for me. However, while dating someone, I would obviously worry about they're health, so if they're big enough for their health to be compromised it's something I'd want them to work on.
  • Sounds like they're talking about coconut milk.
  • I don't really have a designated day, but I don't watch as carefully, log as faithfully at the weekend. I try to stay within maintenance anyway (currently on .5lb a week loss) but I don't take enough care with measurements etc to be sure. Random days, if there's an event, I don't worry about it at all. Last weekend we went…

  • So, can anyone tell me if there's any scientific evidence about the benefits of this (that can't be gotten elsewhere)?
  • Generalising maturity based on age is ridiculous. There are plenty of mature 20year olds that outstrip many 50year olds in terms of how 'grown up' they are. Judge people as individuals and decide based on that.
