  • Rainy, yucky weather we've been having. Maybe tonight or tomorrow I'll be able to hit the trail again. Prayerful Mom - did you make your 100? Sorry to hear you have shoulder pain.
  • Rode 18 miles last night in 1 hour! That's pretty good for a (umm, how do I put this delicately...?) a person not in peek physical health. Heck - my profile will tell you I'm a Grandma and still need to lose 40 pounds! GO ME!
  • I have a goal to do a century ride by Labor Day. Since I knocked out 50 on Memorial Day, I think I'll do 75 miles on Independance Day. Anyone recommend a camel water pack? I don't know if it would feel too heavy when full, get warm to quickly, or freeze my back! Are they worth the $40 price?
  • Hey - I'm glad I'm not alone! I have a 'double gel' seat that I LOVE! I also use the padded shorts. And, with all the 'junk in my trunk' you'd think I have plenty of padding already! I ride in Ohio on a bike trail that goes from Cincinnati to Columbus (so I've been told - I've not covered the whole thing yet!).…
  • I took a Zumba class at a health club I had free membership to for 3 weeks (that was great, but I can't afford that in my real life!). I LOVED it! Zumba is a cross between latin/salsa/mamba, jazz, and belly-dancing. It's very high energy and made me sweat!!!! Does anyone participate regularly in Zumba? Are there…

  • Well, I'm the type that needs a lot of attention, and encouragement, so I've been telling everyone "I've lost 5 pounds!" and I'm sure they said, "great!", but couldn't tell at all!!! :blushing: At 10 pounds it was probably the same thing. I think at 15 pounds my husband could notice a litte, but wearing the same clothes in…
  • Steppers are basically walking in place steps with a little lift. The stepping up and down will burn a few more calories and build a little more muscle, but takes only a small space. Just keep moving!
  • Hello MFP's. I'm at my half way weight! It's taken 6 months - and I've only lost 28 pounds (I wanted 30-40 pounds by now), but I'm pleased with my accomplishments and lots of people are telling me I'm looking great! My husband promises to take dance lessons with me once I hit goal weight (or the day he says I'm…
  • The church I attend has a ladies fitness group (AKA: Dump the Plump) that participates in a monthly "challenge". This month's challenge is a 10 mile bike ride coming up on Saturday (11/22). Granted, most of these ladies are not cyclist, but I'm thinking 20+ miles would be a challenge. Maybe the real challenge for most of…
  • I took last week off. I hope to get some miles in this week though.
  • Got in a 40 minute ride Tuesday night and a 50 minute ride last night (Wed.). Both nights my average speed was 17.6 mph. I know last night I went 14 miles, so Tuesday must have been around 13 miles. I'll be going out again tonight - just because it's probably the last nice evening we'll have for a while.
  • I rode 40 minutes last night. It was pretty dark by the time I finished, but the headlight works well. My average speed last night was 16.8 mph. I drafted behind my hubby the 2nd half, but he didn't increase the average speed I had already started! We'll be going again tonight, but hope to get an earlier start.…
  • Hi Shorerider, I rode 16 miles on Saturday. I'll probably only get 10 in tonight with it getting dark earlier. I've got a headlight on my bike now, so I'll be OK. I just prefer daylight riding. It's tough since I have to work during the day - I sit here and think "gee, wish I could be riding right now!". My hubby got me a…
  • To help me stay focused, I started this Pro/Con list. If you have anything to add in either column, please state it! Pros 1 Look attractive (external) 2 Feel attractive (internal) 3 DH more attentive 4 Avoid health problems: diabeties (both parents have/had it) 5 Stronger bones/muscles (list separately - Pro list needs to…
  • My husband and I are now addicted to cycling! We rode 1 hour yesterday and went 16 miles - that's averaging 16 mph for the mathmatically challenged! I've found that I like the speed and distance, as well as the occasional wildlife seen on the local bike trail. I really like snow skiing too, but cycling is much more…
  • I just re-read the forum rules and since this is not for personal monetary gain, it is acceptable to post a request for donations to a fund raising event. Just want everyone to know I'm following the rules!
  • http://main.acsevents.org/goto/takingittothestreet. Hello Everyone! I'll be walking the 5 miles on Sunday, Oct. 12 in Cincinnati as part of the national campaign for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. I am the captain of our team, Taking It To The Street! At work, we make the mobile…
  • Aloha! I love MFP and hope you will too. It's all about burning more calories than you take in and remembering what net calories means! If you check the boards often, you'll start recognizing the 'regulars' (who apparently have more time than I do for replying to posts!) and we're all 'in this together' to get into…

  • During the Great Depression there was a run on banks and soon the banks had no cash to hand out so people lost what they thought was safe. It's the same with the stocks today - people feel that if they don't get out with something now, they'll get out with nothing later. Cut your losses mentality.
  • LOL!
  • Have you read the 'eat your excersize calories' information on MFP? You're probably not eating enough so the body goes into starvation mode and holds onto the fat/weight. I don't have the links handy, but I'm sure someone else does! or you can do a search... Hang in there! :flowerforyou:
  • It's amazing how that 1/2 pound has to be noted! I do that all the time! I've now lost 18 and A HALF pounds - every ounce makes a difference!

  • Very good! I'm almost to 20 - that will be a great day when I hit that number! Your ticker says 7, so I guess you were losing before you joined MFP. Good work! Keep it up!
  • When there's a 50% chance of rain, does it rain on only half the city? Or does it rain half the day? Or does the rain only come half way down? Maybe they're only half rain drops...???
  • My doc NEVER said anything about my weight - even when I went over 200 lbs. I had blood work done and it showed me as "border-line diabetic". He never said anything then either. My family history (which I'm sure he has) also shows that both of my parents are diabetic. I wonder how long he was going to let me gain weight…
  • Great reminder! It makes all the hard work I'm doing seem like not only the right thing to do, but the only way to do it! I'm actually a little surprised it stated that 2-3 pounds per week was right amount of weight an average person can lose. That probably depends on how much weight there is to lose, but I think 1-2 is…
  • It really does feel good when you recognize an internal change is happening! Good job and keep up the hard work!
  • No weight loss this past week - I'm blaming it on being a woman, if ya' know what I mean. But, Shorerider might like to know, I biked 20 miles on Saturday!!! That's the furthest I've gone on one ride and it took me about 80 minutes (including the time it took me to walk my bike half way up the hill that just…
  • If that cat has a piece of buttered bread on it's back, which side will hit the ground?
