Peoria Az Halloween Half marathon. 1:45 even. 2nd in my age group.

I love racing because I know my only real competition is myself. I'm never gonna win the actual race, I know that. But I do set time goals for myself. And I LOVE races I've never done in cities I've never been to. When I ran NOLA, Shalane Flanagan & Kara Goucher ran the half. There was an out & back section in the…

Ah, this is when I LOVE AZ. My weather related issues are June, July, & August. I have no idea what running in the conditions you described is like. The worst I've run in is 36 degrees & even that I did in shorts. Good luck!

My favorite race distance is the half marathon. I can go all out & it's over before I'm sore. I also love the marathon because it takes strategy, pacing, training, and resolve. I hate 5k's because I would have to run 3.1 mi to get warmed up & I'm still not fast enough. And I'm definitely thinking of my first ultra. But it…

Thank you, I'll have to check those out! killer biceps btw!

Congrats to your son! I wish my boys would run. Of course you will finish your marathon! Have fun, enjoy the crowds

Great job, Carson! Amazing time!

I threw up after yesterday's 18 miler. But it's kinda normal for me. I puked during my first road marathon 2 years ago. Then last year, I puked after most training runs of 16 miles or longer. It's kinda like a nauseous, motion sickness type thing for me. Plus, I'm pretty sure dehydration plays a role.

I've got a half marathon 10/26. www.peoriaaz.gov/NewSecondary.aspx?id=62041. Course info at www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=501115. I'm thinking 1:45 for my time. Packet pickup is morning of, no bib # yet. I'll let you know how it goes

Most race times are verifiable online. Can you look them up?

You're simply amazing!
-
great execution!
-
I go first thing in the morning, so yeah, there's lots of women showering & getting ready for work in the locker room at the gym.
-
With just a week left, I wouldn't try anything new. Just do as you normally do before a long run.
-
You're IN? You're doing the NYC marathon?! No matter what, you can finish the marathon. It may be painful, but you're running one of the most sought after marathons in the world. Do your best with the time you have left for training, but then just enjoy the experience come race day.

My first marathon was a trail marathon. I knew going in that it would be vastly different than road running. It took me just under 7 hours to finish it. But I had a blast & loved it.
-
I love it! You have a great attitude.

I prefer to eat more before a run than try to "replace" afterward. I eat more on Friday's in anticipation of my long run on Saturday. I generally try to stick with 2000 cals a day regardless of what I do. Sometimes it's more.

I agree with Dori that the more times you do this, the "easier" it gets. This is my 3rd season, my 4th and 5th marathons. I'm not nearly as nervous about the long runs as I was the last two years. My first road marathon was a disaster. We're talking puking on the side of the road & hanging out in the porta potties. Crying.…

Nothing. My first mile or two is the warm up

You are so awesome! Congratulations on your win!

within an hour of waking up. Usually 4:30 am

Lol! Fortunately, I only work part time. I've never taken days off to run. I actually shift my runs around if I have to. Like, I was scheduled to run 10 today, but I did it yesterday cuz I had to close last night. I used to work weekends, so while people were doing long runs on Sat or Sun, I did mine on Wednesday. At any…

I agree that if it's a head cold, I run. I usually blow snot rockets while running no matter what. It really helps alleviate congestion. "Hose the nose"

I ran with a Garmin for the first 2 years, until it broke. It was very liberating last summer when I didn't have one. But I use a tracker on my phone, so I know in the end what my splits are. I occasionally wear a Garmin to get a reading on my heart rate.

When I first started running, it was for fitness, exercise. Then I got addicted to it & I love it. I used to think, "I'm running to lose weight" now it's become "I need to lose weight so I can be a better runner." Like others have said, I'm more conscience of what I'm eating while training for a race. I can't run well with…

I guess I need a therapist too. (Or a penis). I've been running at that hour for the past 4 years & I've always had those fears as well. But I'm not gonna let what could happen stop me from doing what I love.
-
I love this! I'm constantly talking to my self. "It's nothing" "There is nothing" "No matter what" "It'll get done" There's a lot of cussing at myself at times too. Sometimes, I gotta remind myself to "focus" "stay in the moment". I do math sometimes too, but I lose the ability to count after mile 18. I like the "systems…

I bought an amphipod water belt, it holds 4 little 8 oz bottles of water. Can't use the belt, no matter how tight I get it or where I place it, it flops. I carry those little yellow bottles in my pockets. I look ridiculous, but I don't care. This is what works for me. I don't drink course fluids either. I've carried a…
