You can do it - you need a structured training plan. For me, I used a Tues/Thurs/Sat approach. Tuesday/Thursday: Start w half a mile for 2 weeks, 1 mile for 2 weeks, 2 mile for 2 weeks.... up to 5mile runs... Saturdays: long run days. I started running 50lbs ago - best. decision. ever. Granted it was more like a slow jog. Running/jogging is GREAT cardio and will help in losing weight. I just took it slow - would walk a min then run a min. Eventually worked up to a mile then 3 miles then a half marathon. You can do it. Check out the Couch-to-5k program.…

I'm 5'2, 145lbs and size 6 - not tiny not huge - i'm thinking similar to you. And I had a very similar experience with teenagers at a run path near my work. I try to not let it get to me - i mean, we're not in middle school anymore. But it is very discouraging that this is what our "future leaders" feels comfortable…

First, make sure you have good shoes. Second, if you can run on grass/dirt or other soft surfaces, it will be easier on your joints. Third, for me, doing strength training for my quads (think squats and leg press) really helped eliminate my knee issues. In the short term, take ibuprophen and ice ice ice....

I'm not sure - but i bet it does make a difference - even with the buoyancy of the water.

On MFP - for me 1hr of breaststroke is 600 cals and 1hr of freestyle at moderate effort is 450 --> I would think this range is more realistic...

I'm pear shaped too - and regardless of my weight - it is always going to be distributed as such - the only solution is to lose overall body fat. Building upper body muscle can help balance you out.... :flowerforyou:

When I think "heavy lifting" - i think powerlifting - ie. squats (w/ bar), bench press, deadlift. These three are great for overall strength conditioning. :flowerforyou:
