I used to be like that. If I exercised, it ruined my whole day because it made me feel nauseous and dizzy. My solution was to workout in the evening. Now I am WAY more fit than I used to be. I was away from home taking care of my niece for a week and the only time I had to work out was the morning, so I thought, okay, it…

I guess I am in that small category of people that does NOT envy people who eat fast food, etc. I LOVE nutritious food and would feel like I was in prison if I had to eat what most people "enjoy". I don't envy smokers who are cancer free or alcoholics that have no DUI's, either. If they are beating the odds for now, good…

I'm a lot older than you and --- this is my opinion--- that people who gain weight as they grow older become less active and of course this slows the metabolism. So, it isn't really a function of something you can't control (like gray hair), but a function of replacing a more active lifestyle (like taking care of small…

I follow an exercise plan that I read about in a book called ESCAPE YOUR SHAPE. It really works for me. 1) 10 to 20 minutes low cardio to warm up 2) complete body stretch 3) strength training upper body 4) high cardio 5) strength training lower body 6) high cardio 7) cool down

What an accomplishment. Thanks for sharing because seeing results like these is what keeps me motivated and feeling positive. I'll bet your family is PROUD!!! And happy to have a healthier you.

If you look around, so many people are overweight that it appears more 'normal' to be overweight than a normal BMI. I found this to be true for myself. 20 pounds ago I thought I looked GREAT! Mostly because then I was smaller than the average person. But now as I have slimmed down more, I can realize what an improvement it…

I hope to say the thing soon!! 7 lbs to go.

Train, don't strain. There are tons of exercises that are just as good for you but won't aggravate injuries. The point of exercise is to feel better and get healthy, not cause pain and injury.

Since I'm an old person, I've known lots of people with those same symptoms. The problem is that I don't recall that the root cause for any one of them was the same. In other words, what you are experienceing can only be diagnosed with medical tests. Usually starting with blood tests. Since you are female, they will try to…

YES!!! You can buy carbonated water like club soda, fizzy mineral water like perrier, talking rain, etc. or buy a soda stream and make your own. Like you, I love the fizziness, but don't want the sugar, artificial sugar, dyes, additives, flavorings, and other assorted chemicals that our bodies don't need and that…

I agree, each company can choose different sizes for their serving information, but as I have continued to think more about my health, I am more likely to choose something that has less sugar and sodium per serving. I can tell right now I would never buy either of those cereals. I know my comment is a bit off topic, but as…

I take a look in the mirror and say "Damn I look good!" and I know how I got there...exercise every day, no excuses! I want to continue liking what I see.

Me too, but I make my own smoothies for after workout that are cheaper, fresher, and have just the nutrients I need. Meal replacements may help you lose weight but they are not sustainable long term and they don't help you learn healthy eating habits. -- my opinion---

The ads are generated by your own browsing history. Someone a lot more computer savvy than me explained it one time on these forums. So...don't blame MFP!

Good reminder. It is easy to lose sight of this and have an all or nothing kind of attitude when really it is the minor everyday 'overages' or 'ommissions' that add up and have the most impact.

And eating is more than just calories: getting the nutrition your body needs is as important as calorie intake. A pound of carrots will not provide the necessary fat and protein you need to fuel your fat burning and muscle building.

Correction - You should be eating 1 gram for each KILOGRAM of body weight.

I saving this to read again and again. Great advice.

I'm thinking it depends on what you do OUTSIDE your structured exercise. I have the same desk job that I had when I started MFP, but as I lost weight, I began to do more gardening, more activities with the family, more moving overall now that I was fitter. Therefore, about halfway through my weightloss I upped my activity…

Congratulations! Great quotes, great story. You are an inspiration.

The only way to avoid this is to plan your food and exercise for the weekend. It doesn't have to be stringent diet food and mega workouts, you just need to plan out something that works with your life style. Pick out the restaurant for date night ahead of time and know what you are going to order and stick to it. Go to the…

Personally, I would love it! Mr Monk is my hero. Too bad I am already married and my hubby is pretty good about cleaning and cooking, too, ha, ha. She just wasn't right for you; probably if you were messy it would wind up the same.

Just want to say that I admire what you said and will use it shamelessly as my own in the future!

It depends on how susceptible you are to inflammation (water weight gain). I do not have high blood pressure, but sodium interferes like crazy with fat loss if you are one of those people whose weight fluctuates by 5+ pounds on a daily basis. Excess water is held in every cell of your body, especially fat cells. When fat…

All the time! That is why I have no desire to 'cheat'. Who wants junk when you can have delicious food that is healthy for you?

I am totally on the same page as you, but I have have kept track easily for two reasons. Basically, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and good fat are low glycemic and processed foods, white flour, white rice, etc isn't. If I am hungry again in just a few hours after eating, then I **know** it is high glycemic and I…

This has happened to me. I just make sure I eat a VERY NUTRITIOUS dinner (because overeating calories ALWAYS makes me hungrier than I would be normally) and eat within 'normal parameters' for the next couple of days or so for sure. I then think over what I WILL do differently if a similar situtation occurs. Sometimes, the…

These are the comments no-one likes to hear, but don't be offended, I just want to help. I looked at your food diary and, if it is accurate, you are not eating enough...especially with exercising as much as you say. Even the calories you ARE eating are not nutritious calories, so you are really depriving your body of the…

It depends on how susceptible you are to inflammation (water weight gain). For me, sodium truly is the devil. I do not have high blood pressure, but sodium interferes like crazy with fat loss if you are one of those people whose weight fluctuates by 5+ pounds on a daily basis. Excess water is held in every cell of your…

I consider processed foods to be anything prepared with preservatives, nitrates, added sugar or salt, sugar/fat substitutes, white flour, white rice, and additives like flavorings, colorings, and a whole laundry list of chemicals like maltodextrin, etc. I try to avoid these things whenever possible, but have not cut them…
