Has anyone else found that when they eat salsa in large quantities, the calorie count isnt too bad but the sodium count is like through the roof? I had like a jug of salsa the other day, and it was like 5000 mgs of sodium

Instead of nagging him, try challenging his competitive nature by making weight loss a competitive sport. My wife and I challenge eachother at losing weight, with rewards and punishments to the winner and loser respectively. Offer rewards for progress made and offer him positive encouragement and support when he does…

My goal is weight loss, but feel free to recommend another type of DVD if you like it.

In general, I think its just as easy to ascribe negative characteristics to an overweight woman (lazy, not taking pride in her appearance, unhealthy, not willing to please her man, etc) as it is to ascribe negative characteristics to an unemployed man (lazy, not willing to contribute to the household, etc.) Such…

Good for you. I am a big believer that everyone should do whatever works best for them. As for me, I am still sticking with 2 lbs/ a week, b/c 1) I have a lot more lbs to go, 2) I am impatient and would otherwise lose focus if I was going to slow, and 3) studies have shown that yo yo dieters are healthier than people who…

I don't think that's the relevant comparison. Might be more relevant to ask: would half of women leave a man if he lost his job and became bankrupt? I've seen polls that suggest 75% of women would not marry an unemployed man, so definitely there are both shallow men and women out there.

I have kind of creaky fragile floors. Can any of these exercises be done on those floors or should I find some place that can handle jumping around?

I have to disagree with people saying 1200 is too few calories for a 5'4" 178 pound woman. I think 1000 or 1100 might be too few, but 1200 seems like its within the range of reasonableness. It sounds like its a medical or genetic issue of some sort, I think you are right to have your doc check you out.

pizza, I found this awesome Naples-style pizza place nearby that makes a phenomenal buffalo mozzarella pizza, only like 1100 calories or so :(

I have lost 50 pounds before (since gained a lot of it back), it took me roughly 8 months, which included a lot of stops and starts. For one thing, as you get lighter, the same amount of dieting and exercising is less effective than formerly. Also, you get tired of dieting and allow yourself to stop being so rigid about…

Popcorn! 100 calorie packs are great. They take a while to eat and actually are more filling than 100 calories of pretzels or other salty treats. Things like potato chips and candy bars are way too many calories and aren't nearly as filling as a 100 calories of popcorn. If you are looking for something like a candy bar, I…

make healthy swaps in your normal meals and snacks to cut down calories while still maintaining your satisfaction with your food choices.

I liked his other book, 4-Hour workday, was good reading, though not realistic for me to accomplish. Would be interesting if that carries over to this book as well.

There are a large number of reasons not too, but the main one for me (I drink a lot of diet coke) is this: water fills you up, and helps control your appetite. That's why I drink it and list it in my food journal. Diet Coke has the opposite effect: the artificial sugars actually make you hungry because it signals your body…

I have to have snacks, otherwise my blood sugar gets so low, and I'm so hungry I can't concentrate. Also, I find I tend to overeat during mealtime if I am ravenous (due to no snacks). A Fiberone granola bar (140 calories) or a 100 calorie popcorn does the trick for me. Lots of fiber to fill me up, tide me over till…

I feel like once you reach your goal weight you need to put some routines into your life to make sure you are eating healthy and exercising regularly, and that once you do, you can stop obsessing so much about what you eat or how much you exercise and just fall into a healthy routine and not worry about it so much. Once I…
