Ive had similiar problems myself and found if i have my bigger meal at lunch then have a lunch sized meal for dinner..which usually consists of a meat and salad...and if i snack at all in the evening i provide myself with a little fruit salad or an assortment of my favorite veggies use a salsa for a dip! It would be great to have a trainer but at my gym you have to buy lessons in a bundle and that makes it pretty expensive..I had a trainer years ago and he was tremendously helpful in motivating me to use more weight and reps with squats and deadlifts

I do eat out on the weekends and thats probably part of it as i live in a small town and little exists past fast food and majorly wilty salads..maybe its better until i find a healthy alternative i just stay away from it altogether until i'm a little stronger, but a plan before i go may help.
