  • Tea is fine as long as it's actually tea. Not the bottles of "tea" that are really tea flavoring and a lot of sugar.
  • What is your blood pressure like? Mine is quite low and it makes me take in a high volume of liquids. I've upped my salt in my diet *gasp* and it has helped some with the light-headedness and "head rush". I was having issues because with all the water I consume, I was basically depleting my body of electrolytes.
  • Ditto the others. And also, I think it's important to look at that last photo... unless she has the teeniest bone structure in the world, she seems too thing and not truly fit. I hope you can get the help you need to love yourself no matter what, and make realistic goals for your body.
  • Couple of things: (1) Make sure you have decent shoes. Lack of support = shin splints (2) Ease into running if you aren't a runner already. Start with a walk/run combo. In general, running is a very high impact exercise, especially on a treadmill or on cement (3) Alternate running with low impact activities like biking or…
  • Maybe move your PM snack a little later or have a snack in your car, or planned (ready) when you get home that is healthy. I always advocate for raw almonds for a snack. Even just a few of them will hold you over til dinner. ETA: Ditto those who said add some protein to that afternoon snack. That fruit is great for you,…
  • Dial down the intensity for sure. I only feel like I'm going to pass out and throw up if I am pushing it too hard. Maybe discuss this with your trainer (does he/she know?) and work on some lower intensity, but equally effective exercise. If you keep up this pattern, your brain may think exercise = not feeling well, and it…
  • I almost always do two snacks per day. One is almost always a 1/4 cup of raw almonds. They are so filling and delicious!
  • I think the best are Joseph's Whole Grain Flax Tortillas. 70 cals a pop and high in fiber + Omega-3s. And the kicker? They actually taste good! ETA: They're $2.79-$2.99 for a package of 6 at most grocery stores.
  • 1. Almonds (raw) 2. Plain yogurt 3. Pre-washed mixed greens (I HATE washing lettuce) 4. Bell peppers 5. Cucumbers 6. Light ranch dressing 7. Honey 8. Peanut butter 9. Skim milk 10. Old-fashioned oats 11. Bananas I know that's cheating, but I have all of those basically at all times. I also always have one other type of…
  • I vote that it's okay to have that treat if it's within your limit for the day. I like the suggestion of the above poster by eating something filling like almonds or a string cheese. You can also try something sweet like yogurt to see if that takes it away. If not? Give in to the brownie! Having one brownie will not take…
  • I usually put some yogurt, a banana, and whatever I have lying around. Tossing in a TBSP of ground (must be ground, not whole) flax seed will give you a good omega-3 boost. You can also try "green" smoothies by adding a cup or so of baby spinach. I will warn you it will smell like lawn clippings, but with raspberries or…
  • Congrats to him! Giving something up like that can make such a huge difference. It can also be really hard, so it's great he has you there for support. Just keep encouraging him, and if he slips a little, let him know it's okay and he can jump right back on track.

  • I'm a pear-shaped gal and I am 5'8". At my starting weight of 153 I was solidly a (US) size 8 pants, medium/small shirts. I am now 144 and most of my 8s fall off me. I bought a new pair of GAP jeans in a 6. Medium/small shirts.
  • I would suggest the Couch to 5k (google it!). It is for beginning runner and starts with a combination of run/walk that is excellent to ease you into things. You're right that you don't want to push your heart up that fast, but you'll be a runner in no time!
  • I am! I'm running a 10k. Unfortunately weather predictions have the temp in mid to high 80s and the start isn't until noon. So if I don't melt... I'll be running!
  • Interval training! Alternate high and low intensity cardio exercises in a single workout. Unfortunately, life doesn't let you spot tone, but it's great for burning fat!
  • Interesting. It just so happened to give me 140... which is my goal weight... which is 4 lbs from where I am now. I'd be interested to see the science behind that.
  • I just get plain chobani yogurt and put my own drizzle of honey on it. Significantly less sugar that way!
  • My advice? If you're hungry... eat the extra calories. If you're not, don't. When I was only having like 1350 cals a day I was STARVING even eating back my exercise cals so I upped it a bit. You want to set yourself up for long-term success : )
  • Gap jeans or Levi 515s.
  • I eat avocado in moderation. The fat it contains are healthy essential fats, so are not saturated/trans fat and horrible. That being said, it is still fat. I think it is fine to eat a half an avocado and go over on your fat one day (remember, those are just guidelines, not hard and fast rules). I wouldn't do it everyday…
  • GW: 140 ish (definitely no less!) CW: 146 Height: 5'8" Age: 22 (and a grad student!)
  • Always against traffic unless there is a sidewalk on one side and not the other.
  • Such an amazing difference! Great job!
  • The faster your heart rate the more calories you burn. HOWEVER, to improve your cardio fitness it is MUCH better to stay in your zone. If not, you are literally pushing your heart too hard which is not good for you at all, and you actually won't improve your fitness as quickly.
  • I had to add a couple pounds after being on vacation for a month, too. Don't worry about it. I find I need to let go of the past (easier said than done!) and just look forward to TODAY. Today is a new day. Ignore yesterday. Now I'm back on track and feeling great.
  • My SO has never once been unsupportive, but he doesn't like to eat all the same things I do. I cook dinner, so I often control what the meal is (it'll be something he likes usually, but not usually anything high calorie). I think from my efforts he's noticing what he eats more and is now exercising more. Good things have…
  • Just make sure you're eating enough. It can be healthy. 1600 seems extremely low for a guy like yourself. Also, make sure if you're exercising to eat a bit more making sure your NET is what MFP suggests (aka your net is supposed to be 1600 and you're at the gym 2 hours, you're probably burning about 800 calories... so you…
  • I try to net around 1600-1700. Yesterday I ate around 2000, but when on a 4 mile run.
  • It's hard to say for me because I've always eaten lots of produce which CAN drive up a grocery bill. HOWEVER, avoiding unhealthy snacks like chips, cookies, crackers, and soda makes the bill cheaper. I'm okay not spending $4 on a bag of potato chips. We spend about $80 per week on groceries for the two of us. And we eat a…
