What else does the chip shop have, rosie? If there's a fried chicken, that could work as well, assuming (again) that you take off the coating and skin (where the vast majority of the calories and fat are). Here in NJ we have a few places that actually deep fry hot dogs. Can you believe it? Like a hot dog isn't unhealthy…

I feel for you, abalicious. Before I met my wife, my love life was an utter shambles of false-starts, missteps, and "what the hell happened?" So I know how painful and confusing a break-up is. But I promise that it DOES get better (eventually) and you may actually be headed toward something better (like I did when I moved…

My wife and I are vegetarians bordering on vegan (we do some dairy when we eat out). But a vegetarian (or vegan) diet is not automatically healthier. If you eat nothing but potato chips, you're a vegan. If you eat nothing but Snickers, you're a vegetarian. You're probably also going to die real soon... Honestly, I think I…

First of all, Curlyclue, congrats on kicking the habit. I never smoked, but I watched cigarettes kill my grandfather way before his time, so I understand the evils of the old cancer sticks.... I've also volunteered with substance abuse prevention groups for teens for a like 20 years, so I've read quite a bit on all kinds…

Don't drink and haven't for @ 20-some-odd years. Never really liked it, and then I became mentor/advisor to a group of teenagers. They all had to sign a contract saying they wouldn't drink, and I felt I couldn't i couldn't ask them to do something I wasn't willing to, so I signed the contract and totally stopped drinking.…

As others said, lose the breading if possible and use portion control. The other thing (which MFP is great for) is to figure out how many calories the meal will be and plan ahead. Last week for my wife's birthday, her dad insisted on going to the Melting Pot with us. The full meal: cheese fondue appetizer, salad, veggies…

Going into the summer, I love to occasionally do Alton Brown's "Buff Smoothie," sometimes with a slice of Ezekiel bread and a little peanut butter for extra protein: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/buff-smoothie-recipe/index.html The norm for my wife and I is a cup of beans, cereal with fruit & almond/soy…

When I was experiencing intense hunger pangs in the afternoon a while back, I started drinking a cup of appetite suppressant herbal tea (I use Yogi Tea's Healthy Fasting). It tastes good, is healthy, and usually holds me over to dinner just fine.

You also might want to check out http://www.exercisetv.tv/ They have tons of exercise videos, many of which are free to download (and others you can buy), in case you feel like mixing things up once in a while. They also have some free workout plans (and others you can buy). I'm in the middle of the 2nd week of their "Lose…

For the most part, I workout at home, alternating between workouts I've come up with myself and workout videos. Right now I'm on week 2 of Exercise TV's "Lose Weight in 8" series, and I'm enjoying it; although each of the the 3 main workouts has only 8 moves each, the exercises are things I've never done or seen before, so…

I don't think FitnessPal has an "official" way to do this, Lindsey, but it's easy enough to just figure that you need to account for the difference the next day on your own. (And maybe you can post a suggestion in the appropriate forum.) I've been on FP for @ 2 weeks, and lost nearly 13 lbs, so I think it's great. I…
