it sounds like there are a few things going on: 1. you should probably be eating more. your body is probably still adjusting from giving birth. also, you need energy to burn energy! 2. instead of focusing exclusively on cardio, throw in some weights. they are excellent for boosting metabolism and losing inches. while it…

there's no downside to drinking green tea, but there hasn't been conclusive evidence in the scientific community that it speeds up your metabolism. but i assume that drinking a lot of tea helps fill you up and may help you eat less.

i think body fat percentage is the best way to evaluate whether a person is healthy or not - weight is not directly correlated with health (ask any athlete or bodybuilder).

if you want to fit into a size 10 dress, focus on inches, not weight! i would suggest a jillian michaels workout - either 30 Day Shred or Shredded in 30 (since you have two months, you could conceivably do both). These workouts are pretty quick, but they can give you great results, especially if you're thinking about…

i feel bad for her kids - i'm sure that her weight is also taking a toll on them...

i agree - i think too many people assume that weight loss surgery is the end-all-be-all for losing weight. but, it's still hard work - you have to revamp your diet, and you will have to start exercising. plus, it sounds painful. i think this woman needs to start slow - even just a 5-minute walk, twice a day, would be a…

i have a regular digital scale, but i saw this today: http://home.dailysteals.com/ who doesn't want a scale to talk to them?

i've heard that 'new rules of lifting' is quite effective. good luck!

thanks for your help everyone. i'll keep an eye on her, and just let her know that MFP is always here when she's ready!

I'm Merav - I just moved back to the DC area (Potomac native), and I'm taking some time off to find a new direction. I retired from teaching at the ripe age of 24, and I'm now looking a career that I'm passionate and excited about. I just started (semi-)running, and I've also been doing some JM videos and gymming every…

that is an interesting article. i think the important takeaway from this article is that it's still possible to lose weight, no matter what caloric handicap you have. and exercise is even more important because we need to keep our metabolism up.

greek yogurt! it's a great source of protein without a lot of fat or carbs. i prefer the 2% because it tastes much more flavorful. if i have the 0%, i add splenda to sweeten it up.

i think you should continue to do ab work, even if you might not feel its effectiveness. in order for anyone to see muscles, you have to melt off the fat first. when that finally happens, you should see at least the outline of your muscles, but if you haven't worked on them, you won't see them! i was wondering what kind of…

i hate it when that happens! i sometimes experience negativity if i go out with friends and order a salad or ask for a meal without fries or ask for egg whites. i think a lot of people want others to behave like them if they know that they're not behaving that well. that way, they feel like their behavior is 'justified'.…

i think it's completely fine to have a protein shake when you don't have many healthy options that are available. one of the reasons that some health professionals advocate protein from a natural source (greek yogurt, eggs, meat, etc) is because of the thermic effect that it has on your body. when you eat protein…

pirate booty! tastes delicious and lower cals in comparison to other 'junk foods'...also, nuts, protein bars, cookbooks. your brother is lucky to have you!

i love fat2fitradio - these guys have excellent podcasts and stick to the facts about losing weight and health.

if you're feeling hungry all the time, you should eat more! 1500 cals may be too low for you - check your BMR (fat2fitradio.com/tools) and try to stay above that. you can also ease into those calories by eating a few hundred less than you normally do. admittedly, it's not as fast for losing weight, but you will get there…

hahaha, i also have a b.a in psych/soc and did my master's in spec ed. wow! we should gather our brain power and use it for good, not evil! i forgot to mention that i haven't been touching the scale because i upped my cals and i know it takes a while for my body to adjust. i've also been running lately, and it's awesome! i…

tameko - greek yogurt! it's awesome - i personally love fage 2% yogurt, which has 20 grams of protein per container. i also love go lean kashi cereal because it's high in protein and fiber. i'm trying to keep my protein intake above 100 g, and ideally above 120 g, but i haven't been using any protein powder. also, have you…

i think i speak for most of the people here when i say that we've all been there. first off, while 10 lbs is still a gain, you are asking the right questions before you hit 20 lbs, 30 lbs, etc. so just by thinking about it and posting on this site, you are already taking charge! how did i get started? honestly, i just…

it is possible to exercise too much - make sure you take at least 1 day off a week to recover. also, exercise smarter, not harder. try to vary up your workouts. maybe run one day, do elliptical the next, take a class or do a workout DVD. this will ensure that your muscles won't adapt as quickly. when you keep repeating…

that's fantastic! congratulations, and keep up the good work!

what's interesting about the show 'big sexy' (i've seen only 2 episodes) is that, on one hand, these girls are happy at the size that they are, but at the same time, they make comments about losing weight. to me, that doesn't make any sense - if you're happy with who you are, why do you keep talking about losing weight? i…

i once fainted because i forgot to breathe (supposedly medically impossible, so booyah!). i was playing scrabble with my family and got the hiccups, so my dad told me to get some water. i started holding my breath as i got up because i was thinking about the words i could play with my tiles. i guess i was thinking so hard…

i've never joined a group before, but this sounds like a good one for me!

it always take the body a little while to get used to the amount of food you're eating. if you're very, very hungry, i would suggest to eat something that may fill you up a bit, and drink a lot of water. for me, some low-fat milk, peanut butter, cheese, chicken - anything that has some protein and fat tends to be more…

that is fantastic! i went through a similar thing today, and it always feels better just to do it! it's hard to come up with an excuse when it's a workout in your house that's only half an hour, hahahaha. nice job!

Today, I ran a mile...as a warm-up! Then, I did 15 minutes of circuit training/weight lifting, followed by 35 minutes on the elliptical. In middle school, a mile seemed to be soo long. Now, I can jog 4 miles (with some walking breaks)! Major NSV for me :)

that seems like such a weird note to end on in a text message! however, he doesn't know about your situation. maybe just let him know that you used to be bigger and that you're really enjoying being healthy now. i don't think you need to go into too much detail, but maybe he'll be more sensitive in the future. i say give…
