  • Tapioca pudding. Or a Thai mango custard!
  • Sounds like low blood sugar to me. You should consider eating something, particularly if you just exercised. Fresh fruit helps me if my blood sugar drops too low.
  • Protein doesn't make me feel full. The number one thing that makes me feel full is fiber (lots of veggies). The runner up is fat (walnuts are SO filling). My doctor said that a lot of people think it is the protein that fills them up, but--since many (animal) protein sources also contain fat--it's really the fat that is…
  • Why don't you share your finances with your husband? This sounds like a trust issue, one that needs to be addressed. In my opinion, people keep their finances separate because they distrust the other person and/or they can imagine a divorce sometime in the future. Planning for an impending divorce in the possible future is…
  • I would recommend going to a doctor and having your iron and b12 levels checked. Deficiency in either of these two things can cause chronic fatigue.
  • I don't live in California, but this sounds amazing! Thank you for providing good healthy food options for others!
  • I wanted to add, too, that when we buy organic, we recognize the higher price tags and are compelled to eat ALL of what we buy, without wasting anything. When something is expensive, you'll think twice about buying more than what you need and you'll put what you get to good use.
  • It is true that organic food is expensive. But Americans actually allocate a very small percentage of their total budget for (conventionally grown) food; food is cheaper here than it is in most countries, because a lot of things here are subsidized. In fact, food prices in the U.S. were actually much higher in previous…
  • I don't understand this either. If I didn't eat fruits and veggies, at least half my food for the day would be missing. I have a feeling it might have something to do with the protein craze most people are hyped up about. They think they need massive amounts of protein and the only way to do that "must" be to eat massive…
  • I love avocado! I mix mine with a little Eden Organics black beans, homemade stewed tomatoes, feta cheese, fresh cilantro, and sometimes a little bit of sweet corn. Delicious alone or with chips--I recommend Food Should Taste Good quinoa and blue corn chips...yummy!
  • There are some very annoying, misinformed people on this site who claim they are nurses or fitness trainers, and practically have their resume in their signature (as if we should all be impressed). These types of people are usually the most outspoken and the most adamant that they are always right. For anyone new to the…
  • You could try ginger tea, or not working out so soon after eating.
  • Do you eat a lot of meat beforehand, or other acid-forming foods?
  • Good for you! I wish more people had this mindset. My family went completely organic about 2 years ago and it's been the greatest investment in our health. I haven't been sick in a year and a half and my husband has a ridiculously high sperm count, haha! I'd recommend starting with looking for an organic CSA (community…
  • I gained a lot of weight while on the pill. It also raised my blood pressure...ack! It doesn't do this to everyone, but I highly recommend getting frequent checkups just in case.
  • Freezing vegetables is a good option, better than eating canned vegetables. But it is absolutely not the "same nutrition" as eating fresh vegetables and fruits. Some of the vitamins are lost.
  • I grow most of my own fruits and vegetables. I also supplement with a CSA, which I find to be healthier and more economical than what you can get in traditional supermarkets. Does your town/city have a farmer's market?
  • I grow my own kale and freeze it so I have it year-round. Kale chips (with shredded cheese on top) and garlic powder are really good. Most of the time I steam it (for 5 minutes) with some broccoli, then add a dash of fresh lemon juice and some unheated olive oil. VERY nutritious! I also add kale into pasta sauce and…
  • They're not organic. And as others have said, they're a processed food which means they're full of chemicals and preservatives. Personally, I wouldn't touch frozen meals.
  • My husband's taking me on a trip overseas to the destination of my choice. Making plans for the summer!
  • As someone who had a suspicious mole biopsied this year, I'd strongly advise you against tanning. It does lead to skin cancer. Fortunately--and maybe because I've never gone tanning--it checked out ok. I used to be self-conscious about being "pale" but now I prize my porcelain skin for its beauty and because I look younger…

  • Do you like shrimp? I had some fantastic boiled shrimp the other night. I eat mostly vegetarian too, and I cook with a lot of beans and lentils. I'm going to try dried peas this week.
  • I HAVE to eat after a workout. I burn anywhere from 400-650 calories depending on what I do and for how long, and if I don't eat immediately, I'm stuck with a headache the rest of the day. If you're hungry after exercising, go for it.
  • My husband doesn't need to diet because he's always been very lean. He's been 100% supportive though, and eats the healthy meals I cook with nothing but gratitude. We don't keep any unhealthy snacks in the house, and he's ok with that because he wants to eat healthy too. He just knows to sneak snacks when I'm not around :)…
  • I no longer fall into the 25-29% of obese people in my state! Recently my BMI hit 29 and soon enough, I hope to not be overweight either. Thanks for sharing this.
  • I work out twice a day (30 minutes at a time, usually), 6-7 days a week. I am fortunate enough, however, to have a home gym. I know that's a lot of exercise, but I have 48 pounds to lose and exercise is the only way I've found to combat my depression naturally. I have a lot more energy too; I'm not falling asleep halfway…
  • "The trainer told me that if my HR was up that high there would be NO WAY I'd be able to chat with her." When I've been exercising recently, my heart rate has been up near 165-170 bpm, as per my heart rate monitor (which is new and I am convinced is accurate). I CAN hold up a (somewhat gaspy) conversation while I'm at that…
  • I buy all organic from a health food co-op and the local farmer's market instead of going to big chain grocery stores. My cart is full of fresh fruits and veggies and the closest thing to "junk food" I buy is dried mango. (We used to buy nonorganic meats and Hamburger Helper 2 years ago....ack!) My grocery bill has spiked…
  • You say you exercise frequently? I exercise frequently and I am stttaaarrving after I exercise. If I eat any less than 1500 calories a day, I get a headache. Have you considered that your exercise calories burned might be off? I got a heart rate monitor recently and I'm so glad I did!
