I've got this app but it works best for processed food and most of my food is homemade...and thus all A's or B+ or something... ;-) But for those of you still working on moving from bad processed foods to healthier options, it's a cool app!

Wow, sounds like it will smell amazing! I do not have a crockpot (yes, I know it's something I'm debating) so can I treat this as a regular stir fry? Or bake it? You said "otherwise place it all in a large saucepan and let it thicken..." how large? Do I keep it over low heat? Will it still take 7 hours on the stove?…

So I made the recipe from insky....with several changes. I used pork as my meat instead of ground turkey (my DH doesn't like ground meat) I used a homemade sauce that DH did - peanuts, peanut butter, soy sauce, honey, and the lime from the recipe - it was quite good I used udon noodles instead of raman - they turned out…

Add it to your oatmeal... Add it to a smoothie As mentioned, it's really just another nut butter like peanut butter I don't know why people really think it's that much better! (PS. Places like Whole Food's have "grind your own" nut butter available and it's cheaper than buying a jar already made...or even better, by the…

I'm shopping today for all the recipes I haven't done yet - super excited to try them out though! Will update when we make them.

I used catfish, since that's what we had ;-) (Still need to get around to the chicken tacos this week I hope!)
-
insky, it looks great... a couple of questions though: 1. Can I use udon noodles instead? We have a bunch of those already... 2. Where do I find hoisin sauce? Can we make it with honey, pb, and soy sauce? 3. can we just use garlic? my DH doesn't do well with chili I think we'll try it with pork this week, thanks!

I made the one I posted the day we started the thread. It was very good and filling!

I love my Nathan one - I am drinking out of it now! I got it at REI for less than $12 and it has a built in clip on the nozzle for handy attachment and it hasn't broken yet after multiple droppings...

Great start here! Just to summarize, here are the recipes for this week: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fqBAaFmtHqOq76VlmyASTE8LX-FnUnYWCYY7QTu6q1o/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1 and don't forget to add each other as friends! If you can't make it this week, add it to next week's plan but do try and report back to let us know…

insky, I like the google docs idea, to keep them organized in one place... And I like the weekly post, that will help add new people and keep it fresh. rmartin - tofu is great, just make sure you season it and drain the water before using...I also like it to bulk up my eggs (Scrambled) in the morning and I have a really…

I take a glucoseamine/chondrotin sulfate pill for my knee - it's amazing how much it helps my joints feel better! I also take a multivitamin because sometimes I don't get enough from my food for the day and I like to make sure I hit 100%...

inskydiamonds: If you want to do a more organized method than what I just suggested that would be fantastic, otherwise we now have two recipes for people to try out! Rmartin: that sounds great and easy to modify for people with special dietary needs (ie, tofu or beans instead of chicken) So if you are participating, you…

In order to do a group swap - I think we'd all have to be friends to see diary and hold accountable? We can try something like that... Or we can keep this post going and post one recipe, everyone tries it and reports back, then the next person posts...? If you want to do the first, feel free to add me as a friend and we…

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have tried upping fiber (this morning was blueberries, fiber 1 cereal - still hungry a bit later) I have tried cheese and greek yogurt - I can eat cheese all day, I love it, and the greek yogurt works for about an hour... I drink water constantly I chew gum but I worry about my…

What an odd type of "food product" to make... I do wonder what their "natural and artificial" flavors are! I think I'd rather have the 10 calories of tomato for a "spaghetti sauce with tomato & basil" than "tomato flavor" - whatever that is. But do let us know what you think!
-
I tell people I'm trying to cut back on sugar for my teeth ;-) You could also develop an "allergy" to whatever the treats most consist of - my husband does this with tomatoes .... gluten is a good one... Or bring your own special treat Or just tell them you are saving to splurge on x day (with x being a day you don't see…

I like the mini quaker rice crackers - 130 cal for 18ish (I do 30 g) and quite yummy! I can also polish off a block of cheese and box of crackers so I try to avoid being in that situation... :-/ As for salsa - I really like the La Flavorita chips (1 oz = 60 cal, that's a lot of chips) but alternatives could be celery,…

1. feel free to splurge on special occasions - the guilt will hurt worse than the food. 2. eat the first item, eat the veg & half the beef of the second item (not the potatoes or gravy), eat half a serving of the brownies, pick from the buffet 1-3 items that look healthy and eat slowly to make it appear you have more 3.…

I'd rather eat a genetically cloned cow that was from a grass-fed "parent" and grass-fed itself than eat a cow that had a "natural birth" and then was stuffed with grade b corn for it's short 18 mo life... People just don't like things that aren't "natural" but realize that most meat offered here today isn't "natural",…

Why there? If you can go up to Denver instead (or some of the time), you'll have TONS more choices.... Otherwise I second people saying to go Whole Foods and get something for the room, sadly that town is much less healthy than those of us in Denver and North of Denver (ie, Boulder, Fort Collins)... And also I second using…

I eat before surgery (watching/helping, not having) so I'd say energy, steady nerves, better blood flow...ie, awake time!

Blueberry pancakes, blueberry muffins, blueberry cheesecake, blueberry smoothie (add 1 cup berries, 3/4 cup milk, 1/3 tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp vanilla and blend well)... I dunno, I usually eat the fresh ones before they have a chance to BE cooked! I also just like them fresh, a bit of powdered sugar or brown sugar or honey in a…

THIS! - it also goes well on wasa crackers or on an open faced sandwich I also found that the pouches taste a lot better than the cans, since the cans are sooo heated and it overcooks the tuna Also, pasta salad, mix with rice and yogurt, make into a patty, or just get the good steaks and eat less often - other fish is also…

I'm thinking of bring this tonight: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2011/05/23/want-to-eat-an-entire-bowl-of-cookie-dough/ but other things are: bread (like cranberry orange) mini cheesecakes devil's egg (with yogurt, not mayo) mozzarella, tomato skewers with basil sauce homemade ice cream - tons of "low" versions (I like…

Special K shouldn't be the only thing you eat - even my DH is branching out from it now (Mostly to Honey Nut cheerios but still!) I like these for breakfast: cereal - which you know, but adding fruit to it is great scrambled egg (sometimes with tofu or spinach or tomato added) egg omelet peanut butter on bagel or english…

Go for nuts! Good energy and high fat and calorie (but good ones) Try 2 oz of almonds (360 calories) Add a banana rolled in peanut butter and peanuts - freeze briefly to keep it all together (105+ 200+200ish = 500ish) Smoothie with banana, peanut butter, whole milk, yogurt, peanuts In other words - add nuts and fruit and…

Two thoughts: 1. buy a bar of VERY EXPENSIVE dark chocolate and have <35g per day (if the pieces are bigger, break them up). Store in the freezer to keep them from blooming and from being too easy to eat. If you savor it, the little piece will do more for you then a whole chocolate cake (trust me, I tried this yesterday -…

Your goals are modifiable - so set them to how you eat. Ideally, fat should be 15-20%, protein 20-25%, carbs 45-55% - adjust for your needs... Make sure they are good fats (ie, avocado, not mayo), good protein (ie, real meat, not chicken nuggets), and healthy carbs (ie almonds, not ice cream sandwich) and you should be…

we used the cheap one from bed, bath, and beyond - I think it was around $20 (I'd link you but I don't see it online). Look for one that does g and oz, goes up fairly high, is easy to clean and store, and will fit well on your counter for easy access. They should have plenty for under $40. Most important, use it, love it,…
