Stupid Halloween Candy
Since when did dead people and candy go together?! It's torture to walk around and see all the candy everywhere - and we still have 3 weeks until it gets handed out! Tips and tricks for avoiding the madness? And yes, I already avoid walking down the aisles, buying it, etc - but it's bloody everywhere! (And in some places,…

Calories Burned - why so different?
I see some people who workout for like 30 minutes and burn over 300 calories on the elliptical or swimming or whatever. And some people even more (600+). When I walk full blast (ie, 4.5mph) for 30 minutes, I get maybe 180 calories net. How do people get such crazy high numbers? Is it because they weigh more? Are they just…

Homemade Frozen Meals?
Hi all, So as much as I try to "be good" and make lunch every day, sometimes I just really don't feel like it. My current fall back is tuna, crackers, relish "Lunch-to-go" packages. Not the best, but not the worst. But ideally, I'd like to make a few "frozen meals" that I can just heat up when I'm not in the mood to prep…

Book to Read
Hi all, Not exactly sure where this should go, but I wanted to mention this book I just discovered. Diet and Health, With a Key to the Calories - By Lulu Hunt Peters (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/15069) This book was written around 100 years ago, but it's an easy read and might help people find the motivation they need.

Hi all, So the hardest nutrient for me to get right now is iron.... in addition to eating fortified cereals, what else can I do? Specifically, I'm looking for lunch ideas. Exercise calories - how to figure
Hi everyone, I know the answer will be a HRM, but I don't have the money for that right now... So, how do I burn more calories when working out? Healthy kid's snack..?! Not really...
I really dislike when "healthy" is applied to everything - some things aren't healthy even though they may be good. For example, (from: http://www.parenting.com/article/oatmeal-snack-cakes) Oatmeal Snack Cakes 1/2 cup butter, room temperature 1/2 cup shortening 1/4 cup white sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 3 Tbsp boiling water…

twist on banana soft serve
I know the banana idea has been used before, but here's a take on it that we enjoyed last night: 1 frozen banana 10 frozen raspberries 1 tbsp pb (We used chunky, all natural) 1/3 tbsp cocoa powder blend well until smooth - makes 2 (small) servings for around 110 calories each honey would also go well with this, or you can…

BBC news article on calories
I hope I'm allowed to post this...the article discusses calories in food and has a really clever "square" technique - I like it since every square = 100 calories...so I'd get 15 and a half squares to fill up per day (they use 2000 calories for a woman, high for me). What do y'all think?…

Weight fluctuations with maintenance...
Hi everyone... I was just wondering how many people see +/- 1-2 pounds when they are maintaining? I was 111.8 on the 7th of August and now I've been 112.6 since the 14th... Do people see that small change happening or does it mean I'm slowly gaining? Does something like that even matter in the big scheme of a "life…

Eat fat Don't eat fat Eat carbs Don't eat "white carbs" Eat sweet potato Don't eat starchy foods .... It goes on and on - why is information on eating well so controversial? Confused - MyFitnessPal versus USDA
Hi all, So I track very carefully on the myfitnesspal app....but I really want to just eat the correct recommendations of foods from USDA.
