For me the first mile to mile and a half is tough... even after running for a year now. It takes me that long to get my breathing and stride into a good rhythm. Once I get past that, it gets easier!

I'm Dina.... a 47 year old mother of two. I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old. Yes, your math is correct... I had both kids after the age of 40! I've kind of been a yo-yo dieter most of my adult life, although I've been pretty athletic. After 2 kids and a desk job, however, the pounds packed on. I had a health scare early…

Current running status: Run 3 times a week at a pace usually between 10:15-11:30.... all depends on time of day, humidity, temp, and my distance. Typically run 3-5 miles on Tues & Thurs, with a long run (10 miles) on Saturday (when my schedule permits) Short term goal: To survive the summer heat/humidity in FL!!! Haha!!! I…

That's great!!! I usually run Tue, Thur and Saturday. Yesterday I went 3.5 miles. It's a tough one out there in the FL heat. It was 89 when I ran. However, my route was mostly shaded (whew)!!!

I'm 47 and just started running last summer. I was NEVER a runner!!! I did the C 25K program on the treadmill and outside. Took me a while to love running, but I do now. I'm now running 3-4 times a week, with a long run on weekends. I plan on running in a 1/2 marathon later this year or in Jan/Feb!!!

I had my son two weeks after I turned 40, and my daughter was born 2 days before I turned 44!!! Yep.... I'm the old one of the group! Definitely glad I was older when I had them.... more settled, more financially secure and I think I have much more patience now than I would have had in my 20's. Having them in my 30's would…

18 for me this week.... total of 53 so far this month!

Everyone offers good suggestions, and I would echo them. The only other thing to add is.... is it possible to walk INDOORS at lunch time? Not knowing where you work or the size of the building, if it's an option to walk around the building or up/down stairs during lunch, that might be a good alternative.

My max heart rate is suppose to be 174, and I've read I should be working out at 85% of that (which is 148). I have a very low resting heart rate (and have also seen a cardiologist). I rarely make it past 148 when running... even at 10 miles....

Like others have said, you need to experiment and find what works for you... before race day. I find that for my runs of 6+ miles, I take a Powerbar Gel befor I run, and then another after about an hour.... depending on my mileage and time I'm running. I also make sure I'm properly hydrated BEFORE a run, or I'm more…

Originally from the Chicago area, but have been in NE Florida for over 6 years now!!!! Damn... it's hot and humid here!!! Hahaha!!!

20 miles for me this past week; 35 total for the month

I don't wear foundation either. I used to wear it, but.... since moving to Florida and now working from home, there really is no need. I have oily skin, and I sweat a lot in the FL humidity, so.... Foundation doesn't mesh well with me and my lifestyle. I'm 47 and could probably use more make-up to make me look better,…

Please add 4 more miles for me from 5/30.... for a total of 79 for the month! I'm targeting 75 again for June!

Bump... I'm interested to know too. My kids are picky eaters. While they eat fruit, it would be nice to find some alternatives!
-
Mine is in the low 40's....
-
Only 14 miles this week... 75 so far for the month!!!
-
I don't... I figure that is all a part of everyday living... like walking from my car to the grocery store... Cooking... cleaning... Everyone does it and I personally believe those daily calories are figured into your lifestyle.

I agree with others... You won't know until you get there. Everyone is different, and things like age and genetics play a role. I was always a yo-yo dieter when young... never had an issue with loose skin. Now that I'm older, I do have some on my lower abdomen and my thighs. But... I I keep exercising and I hope it will…

I use RUNKEEPER. It's FREE, will track your time, distance, speed, etc. You can use your own Playlists as well. And... you can use it for all kinds of events, not just running. I use mine for cycling, and I manually add in my treadmill workouts too. And I love that it has the GPS included. Once in a great while the GPS…

The 17 Day Diet is how I jump started my weight loss. It's not really a diet, but it helps you make the transition necessary for your lifestyle change. The plan consists of four 17 day cycles. The first 17 days you do cut out sugar, carbs, and eat lots of fruits, veggies, lean protein, yogurt, etc. The 2nd 17 day cycle,…

This.... exactly.... If I do a long run on the weekends... which for me is 8-12 miles, I do take a PowerBar Energy Gel with me and take it mid way thru my run.
-
I've only been running for about a year also, and have slowly been increasing my mileage. During the week, I'll do a few runs at 3-5 miles. I find that I typically won't need anything to drink, etc. for those runs, unless it is hot out (which it is now... I live in FL). For a run up to 5 miles, I carry my 10oz handheld…

I've only done a handful of races, but.... I do save them. I write all the pertinent info on them... Name of race, date, my time, my place in age group, place in overall age group, number of participants, etc. My first race bib is hanging on my bulletin board, and I have the other bibs in a Photo album with a picture from…
