I post for show; a forum entertainer. Glad I succeeded somewhere! Bingo. And when you say exercise, ESPECIALLY endurance activity. The two major conditions where meal timing is relevant are the two things you listed: long periods of fasting (or not-so-long periods, but followed by endurance activity), or multiple…

Forget everything he told you about insulin, because he cherry-picked data and misrepresented results.

Hey it's happened twice to me in the last 6-8 weeks or so! Just post more :P I can see that as being the case. I guess part of me has always felt like restriction can lead to issues in terms of sticking with a plan long-term. Too many rules = likelier chance of breaking one of those rules = chance of emotional breakdown…

What's your intake? And do you lead an active lifestyle?
-
Haha, right. I know how that goes. Hence me seeking greener pastures. Aragon is active enough in those forums where it's pointless to give input since he's bound to show up in most of the good threads. If you're active enough to the point of being familiar and make him laugh, though, you'll get some mod reps ;]

The benefits are it's an easy way to fill in the cracks of a diet that is lacking protein. If you want to drink protein shakes because you need help getting to a higher intake, then do it. If you don't need them, then you don't have to buy them. It's really up to the individual.

Yeah, it's tough to convince people that mainstream magazines and books aren't proper sources of evidence when they have little concept of science and subsequently hold those sources of "information" on a pedestal :\ Classic photo is classic. The misc is just so bad for nutritional information. I've seen people talking…
-
It sure does. It's funny how the nutrition section is just this giant wealth of information where the majority of its users support science and have really turned against "traditional thought" in the nutrition/bodybuilding community; the minority still subscribes to broscience. Whereas here it's the opposite of that setup.…

Surprising to see a misker trying to legitimately help people! I'm more from the nutrition section ;]

Nothing until the aware. You should represent by changing your avi to your body with your face replaced with bertstare.jpg.
-
I figured the 'dat dere cell tech' was a dead giveaway. Aware.
-
Yeah right bro. I take ON Hydro Whey before, during, and after training. Halfway through my routine I take 2 scoops hydro whey with 2 tbsp of BCAAs, and 10 minutes after my last set I take another 2 scoops hydro whey + 2 scoops Cell Tech (not to be confused with dat dere cell tech...maybe...) with 2 servings of dextrose…

Did I say that Wolf outwardly claimed it cured PD? I think initially I stated that it was an implication, and after that I was being facetious (like with the cigarette + hitting head comment). Shrug. A neurodegenerative disease is different from diabetes or scurvy, though. That's kind of the thing. To imply you can cure…
-
Same here. I'm always hungry post-workout since all I have beforehand is a protein shake after a 16 hour fast :O
-
Lyle McDonald is an amazing source. For that reason, I highly suggest you read the article again as he does not state you need to drink a protein shake before sleep for optimal results. He mentions that some lines of reasoning lead to that conclusion, but he makes it clear that isn't a consensus. I haven't seen you present…
-
It's laughable based on the fact that he implied that conclusion due to a single case study and nothing more. THAT is what's laughable. He didn't outright say it will cure PD, if I remember correctly (this is from a video presentation where he was giving a lecture to a class). But he made some serious, serious implications…

Precisely. Saying that a certain diet prevents Parkinson's is a billion times different than saying it cures Parkinson's given the nature of a neurodegenerative disease. Nutrition has a role in lots of things, and just because it may have a role in the prevention of something (like dark chocolate) does not mean it has a…
-
I never saw the official case study. An intentional lie? No. Is it possible that the diagnosis was merely off? Yeah, very possible. What measures were taken to make that diagnosis? Is it possible that a paleo diet could cure symptoms of Parkinson's? I won't rule it out. But considering I've researched the topic extensively…
-
No, not really. Cigarettes + coffee are correlated to preventing Parkinson's, for example. For the sake of illustration, let's pretend that's true. Let's pretend cigarettes prevent Parkinson's. Do you think prevention = cure? Furthermore, just because diet plays a role in everything doesn't mean GRAINS plays a role in…
-
I like you. You're invited to my birthday party. Superhero theme. My general vegetarian-based diet reigns supreme! Muahaha. A single case study.
-
Do you understand why the evidence you have provided is insufficient to reach conclusions, then?
-
Diet plays a role in most everything. I am saying that Wolf implying that paleo can *cure* Parkinson's is laughable. It's downright hilarious. This coming from someone who is going to make a career in a field of neuroscience, probably behavioral neuroscience.
-
I don't get it, does that mean being a hipster is bad? People have accused me of being a hipster, but I'm not one. No V-necks + no skinny jeans = impossible to be hipster. Furthermore I'll need to see some empirical evidence that proves the iPad is a distinctly hipster device.
-
Cite that evidence.
-
You could smoke a pack of cigarettes and take 5 hard hits to the head, and paleo would cancel the negative effects of both. Because, people who eat paleo cure cancer and Parkinson's. Just something to consider! Fair enough. I clearly misinterpreted. I don't have to prove that because I never made that claim. I believe that…
-
Actually wrong. You know what the most muscle-sparing thing you can possibly do is? Lift weights. Couple that with a high protein intake of 1 - 1.5g per pound lean body mass in a 24 hour period and you will never see your muscles hit a chronic catabolic state. If anything, bodybuilders have the right to be MORE lenient…
-
I laughed.
-
The implication is we HAVE to eat this way if we want to achieve optimal health. I know no one is holding a gun up to my head and saying, "eat paleo." When I say "HAVE" I mean in terms of being as healthy as possible. Figured that was obvious...

Having 15-31 participants isn't insufficient, simply not as good. It'd be nice to have a larger N, undoubtedly, but considering the external validity surrounding research on whole grains, the need for a giant N diminishes. Not sure how tu quoque is relevant here. Whole grains HAS clinical research; paleo has none to even…

Wrong. You implied that having protein before sleeping for 6-8 hours was necessary to the goals of a bodybuilder. I am telling you that is NOT the case, and your body is no exception.
