I'm exactly 1/2 way through the book now and see the convergence of the story lines. Lenoresaari - it's a fairly easy read so I think you'll have no trouble getting into it on Thursday. But if not, no sweat! What type of test are you taking? My friend in Coconut Grove told me about a book she really enjoyed, and it got 4…

I'm still in the first half of this book. I'm enjoying the mystery and the interaction of the characters. I only have 10 more days to finish this book because I'll be traveling to California at the end of the month. I'm flying this time. Hope you are having a nice weekend.

I got a slow start because I was confused and I kept wondering what I was missing. I have a problem with dual story lines. However, I do find the mystery interesting. The writer allows me to come up with a bunch of questions and possible scenarios, so I'm really engaged in the main story line. I just got past the part…

First sentence of the book "A frigid wind gusted in from the East River, snatching at Dr. Kay Scarpetta's coat as she walked quickly along 30th Street." And I'm absolutely hooked! I love the idea of cold weather and all of the excitement it brings (such as the first day of school, halloween and the holidays) during hot…

Oh, that's too bad; but it happens! I think you would have been interested to read about all the different "cures" they tried on the patients. Should we start to think about a July book? Lenoresaari - what do you have an interest and/or time to read in July?

I read Penumbra. It was OK. It was a fast read; not a whole lot of rich detail to sift through. I thought it was worthwhile, although the message of the book felt like it was directed toward a younger crowd; it was a good message but a bit simplistic for us wise owls. There were a few chuckles in it. I didn't read the…

Steppingstone - that's terrific that you get to visit Hawaii this summer. Take me with you! Are you planning to visit more than 1 island? Lenoresaari - I went to the Virgin Islands when I was 18 and I remember it was beautiful. I sure would love to go back there. Where do you like to visit while you are there? I'm still…

I'd be happy to read Molokai'i. I would love to be in Hawaii, too. About 2 decades ago, I went there and rode a mule down the Kalaupapa trail, which took about 90 minutes each way. At the bottom of the trail we loaded onto a bus and took a tour of the leper colony. After lunch we eventually made our way back up the…

I don't know how she can go into the woods alone. I sometimes had to work at night surveying for animals and, let me tell you, it's spooky! Not to mention mildly dangerous. We had to deal with copper thieves because part of the property had wind turbines, and we had to deal with pot growers in the woody part of the…

Hi Diamond Gals! I'm still shaking my head about Deputy Thigpen's behavior (in general). However, I've certainly seen that behavior during my years as a biologist/ranger. I've had my male coworkers refuse to assist several times. With her writing, I felt like I could feel the mud squishing between my toes and I was always…

I hope you both like the book as much as I do. Yeah, I'm going to visit Florida for awhile, but I will return to California at some point. Since I brought both of my cars here, I guess that means more road trips in the near future! I think I want to stop by the diamond field in Alabama on my next trip. Maybe I can get the…

Yes, we passed through Jacksonville on Saturday night - it was one of our 22 hour drives; we drove straight through from Memphis. I'm in Dania Beach right now. It's been raining almost ever since I got here, but we did get a chance to see Disney World on Sunday and it was a nice day. It looks like the weather will clear up…

I love Nevada Barr's stories. I'm drawn into them immediately because she has a gift when describing scenes - it creates an immediate picture in my mind - and I'm hooked on the story. Not to mention that I just made a road trip with a cat, too; and we had a couple of 22 hour drives.

I'm 5'4" and an apple. At 190 a size 18; 170 size 16; 150 size 14; 130 size 12; when I was 110 (and before children) I was a size 7.

I've been on the road and will continue to be for another few days. Please pick something for May and don't wait for me. I've traveled from California through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas (saw the Alamo), Arkansas (Bill Clinton's home), and now in Tennessee to see Graceland.

I just noticed that someone made me the moderator of this group. I'm giddy with power! <evil laughter> Let me know if you think I should do something that a moderator would do. dunno what that would be
