  • I just started it today. Looks good.
  • Yep. I'll keep you up to date on what page or chapter I'm on. Maybe I'll find a certain phrase or sentence that I really like and share it; or an experience the character has that I've also had; or whatever seems relevant to this book once I start reading it. I'm just shooting from the hip; how does this sound to you?
  • The Light Between Oceans by M.L.Stedman was not available in the library but I was able to get Andriana Trigiani's book- Very Valentine. So lets choose that for February.
  • I couldn't agree with you more - it's nice to take a break from thinking about the weight loss. I wouldn't really know how to spark interest in the group, and I probably wouldn't have the time to steer a large group of people. In its short lifetime, this group has already had 2 leaders, so I know it can't be easy. But we…
  • I'm happy to get the books that are available in the library. I'm wondering ... if very few members respond to this topic, we could try posting something in the Community about it; or we could start a new group to attract different people. Does anyone from the group send you emails?
  • I have another suggestion to add to our list. It's non fiction: Mastery by Robert Greene. "In Mastery, Robert Greene’s fifth book, he mines the biographies of great historical figures for clues about gaining control over our own lives and destinies."
  • Finished it this morning. Plan to read it again to pick up more detail. I read it pretty quickly because I wanted to uncover the secret. I'm impulsive like that sometimes :)
  • I would join, but it costs money. Is there any way to join for free?
  • I have found through experience that I lose weight faster when I drink water. I always add flavoring because it adds dimension to my meal. It is scientifically true that you get a good deal of water from food, but that doesn't seem to work as well as adding glasses of water, at least for me. I say just enjoy what you like.…

  • I was vegan. I developed nerve damage in my elbow so I was going to have surgery to fix it. 2 weeks before the surgery I decided to have my old favorite meal (spaghetti and meatballs), just for old time's sake in case the surgery went very wrong... The next morning I woke up and had completely recovered from the nerve…
  • BTW, this is Robin Sloan's first novel. And, if you get the actual book, the cover glows in the dark!
  • The first paragraph had me chuckling. I love all the contemporary SF bay area references, since that's my home. The detail is simpler than our previous book so it's very readable. I'm only on page 45 (ebook page 45) and I am intrigued to see what happens next.
  • Yep, definitely a much slower process needing more focus on food intake. I'm over 55 and I can't jump around and kill myself at the gym to create the calorie deficit needed to drop weight quickly. I recently started low carb, which really just means I gave up grains, starchy vegetables and junk food. I was able to break a…
  • Great! It looks like a good book.
  • *crickets* I wish this group was more active; I think it has about 30 members but only 3 of us are active. OK. Rant over.
  • OK. I read about all of these books on Amazon. There were a few standouts for me. Here are the ones I rated the highest: Fiction The Art Forger - a mystery with twists and turns and you learn about painting and art forgery. A light, enjoyable read, well rated on Amazon Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour bookstore - an adventure story…
  • I threw out the leftover chips and dip.
  • Fantastic! I can really see the difference. You look great!
  • Wow! You look amazing! Thanks for sharing!
  • Me too. Don't need a computer virus right now. Still interested in knowing this information.
  • I restarted 2 months ago and have lost 14 pounds. I have an injury so I can't exercise, but I still lost weight. You can do it! Try joining a challenge - it helps with motivation.
  • It may not be a good idea to lose weight at your age.
  • Welcome! I love this site. I've managed to lose 14 pounds without exercising (bum knee), so I know you can do it. Soon I will be able to start some easy swimming again, just to keep limber. Friends and calorie counting are the two things that have kept me going. Feel free to add me if you like.
  • I copied our official list here; I would be happy reading any one of them; I would also add that new book about Lincoln because I enjoyed that movie. Fiction 1) "AMPED" by Daniel H. Wilson 2) "The Uninvited" by Tim Wynne-Jones 3) "The Anubis Gates" by Tim Powers (December 2012) 4) "Casual Vacancy" by J.K. Rowling 5) "Cloud…
  • About the same age and goal. It takes a little longer at our age, but it is completely do-able. Sending a friend request.
  • I did try it. I was able to go about 10 days. I did not have the same dramatic results as the guy in the film. I actually lost more weight afterward because I slowly added solid food for 2 weeks after fasting. I did not gain it right back simply because it was a juice fast, as some people have asserted. I went off of it…
  • I was a mini-group (group within a group) leader once and I found I got more participation by sending stragglers an email.
  • Lack of participation is probably just a phase. Why don't we keep going until last man standing? We're all going to continue to read, anyway. If there were another poll, I would probably vote to drop the self-help/improvement topic. I've never been in a reading group before, so I don't know how these things are typically…
  • Well, actually, you did, but that's what friends are for
