I'm Eleanor, 57 and a non-smoker for 6 months. It took 25 years of wanting to stop (I had another 15 years of not wanting to stop!) before I managed it - every time I tried I'd put on weight and start again. I've put on 3 stones and, though happy not to be smoking, I am desperately unhappy with my weight and size. I struggled with eating distress for 40 years and although I am no longer trapped on the interconnecting treadmills of starvation and binge/purging, I don't really know how to NOURISH myself with food. All of the strategies I know are not safe or healthy or kind, and are not options for me. What has been particularly distressing is that NONE of the smoking helplines address the issue of exercise if you're in a wheelchair, with severely limited mobility and pain issues. Now I find that the increased weight is contributing to more health problems - I really need to, and want to, lose weight. I no longer set myself the impossible, and unhealthy, weight targets I did when younger - I just want to lose the weight I gained when I stopped smoking.
The online food journal is the most user-friendly, least clunky one I've found - which means I'm much more likely to keep it up.

Welcome! I love this site. I've managed to lose 14 pounds without exercising (bum knee), so I know you can do it. Soon I will be able to start some easy swimming again, just to keep limber. Friends and calorie counting are the two things that have kept me going. Feel free to add me if you like.0

Well hi and welcome. I just quit smoking myself. Presently just completed 8 months, so onward to 9 months. I have some heart issues and am also a new retiree. We can support each other through this. My diary is open to my friends. Please feel free to add me. Maybe we can do each other some good.0

Just joined as well. I've got knee problems as well, just had a right knee replacement and that has been the push to try to lose weight. It does make it harder when you can't exercise much. I'm happy to support you as well if you can return the favour (even if you can't!)0 -
Hi my name is Linda and I just started the fitness. pal. and I love it. I have lost like 12 pounds already. I like that the food journal is so helpful. thanks. I hate to exercise but it is important to do that. I will be getting new sneakers soon.so i can get out and walk. I live in Kittery Maine. and does anyone want to walk with me.I am pushing to lose weight. I am going to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and going to have an weight surgery so I am working up to that. Just signed in as "pal" to my sister and I'm not sure what to do or where to go. I put in an exercise but it did not prompt for how many times a week. I clicked on the site for 5 foods to avoid and could not get past "read & Listen" message that goes on and on and on-reiterating and repeating. I couldn't make it past Orange juice before I had to leave it. Guess I'll never know the other 4...0
